Emergency 4 Series.

First off I know nothing about this game. I saw a you tube vid of emergency 4 and liked the look of it.

A bit of googleing about has left me a bit confused.

Steam has Emergency 2012 in it's store, Is that pretty much the same thing ?

Reason why I was looking at steam was the other stuff I was looking at it was unclear if they were an English version.

The steam 2012 clearly is.

If anyone plays, or has played Emergency 2012. Or knows anything relevant about the Emergency series that will help me decide on whether to purchase this on steam or not I would be happy to hear your comments.

Is it any good ? Can it be modded ?

Molten,

"Emergency 4" is the Dutch version, if you want the ENGLISH version look for "911: First Responders". That is the same game only ported for english use. "Emergency 2012" is a newer version of the "Emergency" series, which I never knew existed. I do not think they have the LA mod, or any other mods considering it is on "Steam".

I would suggest looking for "911: First Responders" since you want the english version.

No wonder I was getting conflicting info on the web and was having trouble finding out if it was english version or not I was looking at.

You seem to have answered there pretty much everything I wan't sure about. +1

And yeah the youtube stuff I saw had LA mod and that looks pretty cool, so unless anyone knows different about 2012 it would seem wise for me to go looking for the 911: first responders.

Thank you.

If you want to use the LA Mod (or any mod), DO NOT buy 2012!!!

Official Info: http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.php?/topic/13502-em2012-is-not-moddable/

As David said, get 911FR and the LA Mod and you will have fun for hours!

It's only named 911:First Responders in America. It's known under the "Emergency" series in Europe.

Run as far away as you can from Emergency 2012 and go with Emergency 4 instead.

The game itself is quite short lived, the "story" mode is boring, and standard freeplay is uninteresting at best, you need to find some mods to make it interesting, There's the Los Angeles / New York mod for those that are into American stuff, and for those that are into Euro stuff there's the Hamburg, Frankfurt and Winterberg, the latter being a challenge to get the hang of.

NicolaiB is right, 911:FR is the US version published by Atari, and Emergency 4 many other places published by Blue Stone both made by Sixteen Tonnes. And 2012 is 5 (the sequel) by Deepsilver WITHOUT MODDING!

The best mods in my opinion are Los Angeles mod, New York Mod (by the LA mod team), New York Modification (by FFW TUT, unreleased and topic closed (thanks "when release" nagging 4-year-olds!)), Winterberg Mod & RTS.

You are using the WRONG right theme!

Bloody good job I asked it seems.

I would have brought 2012 in my ignorance, and then would have been so bloody annoyed with myself after realising LA mod etc would have been closed to me.

Disaster avoided. It's pretty obvious now which product I need to obtain.

Thx everyone for your input.

Look into various mods, I prefer the Winterberg as it's very automated compared to other modifications, but it is very difficult when you start out.

Los Angeles and New York are from the same people, so they're roughly similar, and easy to get the hang of.

Will do NB. Took a look at some of your EM4 vids too. LA mod seems most popular for obvious reason but really like the look of some of the other mods too.

Reason I am interested is this game seems to offer a different pace of play. It's good to have a mix of games to suit the mood your in.

It's possible to tweak the freeplay settings in the "fp_params_endless.xml" for the endless mode, or the "fp_params_challenge.xml" for the challenge mode, I usually set so I only have one or two events to take care of at once.

you can find the files in the "/mods/*Mod Name*/specs" folder.

More info about editing the params files here: http://forum.emergency-planet.com/index.php?/topic/13781-freeplay-parameters/page__p__189776__hl__event__fromsearch__1#entry189776

Some great info and some really usefull links in this thread.

Looking around now it seems 911 FR is the North American release. The same game released in the UK is Emergency 4 global fighters for life. (same as Europe, not surprising) All the game sites I have looked at dispatch the English version to me :)

Quite cheap too as far as games go.

Gonna hold of ordering for a day or 2 just to make sure I have my facts right.

one of the mods that you can google is the LA 4X4 MOD, many people seem to enjoy it including me very much!
