Let's just hope they pull a chevy (like they did with the Caprice)

This is just selfless, Ford got rid of the crown vic for many reasons. Such as handling, crash safety, room, limited capability, and just just wasn't a mach for modern day vehicles.

The entire reason they stopped making the Crown vic was so they could introduce the new Ford Police Interceptors, which are safer, AWD, handle 100x better, faster and stop faster. Just better vehicles in general.

Do you seriously want to sacrifice Officer safety for looks? Trust me I love Crown Vics just as much as the other guy but it times to move on...

Civilians can own Crown Victoria P71/P7B police interceptors, you don't have to be a cop to have one.

Every piece of equipment on police vehicles you see, can also be used on a vehicle owned by a civilian, with the exception of functioning lights/sirens.

I beg to differ, with todays technology you can easily upgrade all the equipment to give it the boost it needs & sell it as is, stock, I was also speaking with an RCMP Officer while on scene of an accident the other day about his Taurus, he said it's nice, but it shifts like shit & they over heat way to easy, he said the only good thing about it is the AWD in the winter, he said if their was ever a pushbumper to push bumper challenge between a Crown Vic & a Taurus, the Crown Vic would DESTROY the Taurus, you can't beat the V8 muscle that even sounds amazing just revving it up.

Do realize a lot more goes into changing a car from 2wd to AWD then just changing out some parts. They would have to redesign the car around.

Its funny cause the department by me got rid of all the crown vics for the the Taurus and they all love them, and they would never go back to crown vics. Because these handle about 100x better and make there job a lot easier and safer...

I guess you really can't say "the police like the taurus better" or "the police like the crown vic better", there are mixed opinions.

I've talked to a few RCMP officers, some said they liked the Taurus better for some of it's new features, however alot prefer the Crown Vic.

P.S. Still looking for more signatures! :D

I understand people like the old crown vics (I do too), but there's always that moment when stuff becomes too old to keep using and you've got to replace it. Since the Crown Vic has been in use since the nineties it is about time to get something newer. Dutch highway patrol used to have porshes but they became too old and there were better vehicles out there so now they don't use them anymore (in case anyone is wondering, they now drive modified Volvo's).

PS: People might want to check their words before posting, as some are messing up with their, there and they're.

PPS: Yes, I know I'm a bit of a grammar nazi. I'm sorry. I just get annoyed by those things pretty quickly.

HRP still has a lot of Crown Vics, some 2010's I believe but are slowly fading them out, I personally think it should be the departments choice on what they prefer, Officers like the CVPI because it's the ultimate work horse & will bounce back from almost anything & the Taurus Is AWD which is great for winter driving but really not much better on gas being AWD all the time.

Dodge Charger has the option of the small V6 engine OR the big V8 HEMI, why not have all 3 on the market & let the departments decide what they want to use?

Ford has discontinued the Crown Vic, so cops have to buy the new version of a police interceptor.  Love the Vic, it just looks the part and is a pretty cool utility vehicle.  Same goes for the Tahoe...gonna miss those cars.

I'm sure we will be saying the same thing in 10-20 years, when Ford end the Taurus line in lieu of the next best thing.

You never know :P

Even if they brought it back for a month every few years, it'd be awesome. I'm sure they'd recieve thousands of orders.

How?

The factories that made them are sold, closed or demolished and the tooling and the assembly line components are gone as well.

Yeah, no. As good as the CVPI was, the Taurus is much better. It looks good and was a workhorse, but the mileage was terrible, they would probably only last about 2 years, and they were getting old, as well as the technology. You'll probably never see one again, but you just have to deal with it.

You can't do that. Cars are produced in mass quantities; assembly lines are not cheap to set up. Cars can't be made economically in small quantities.

Also, I'm not sure how many orders they'd receive. If they did this, it'd be useless for a police department - they couldn't reliably replace broken cars. The Crown Vic is a very dated design. It's increasingly hard for it to meet emissions and safety standards (they at least used to be deathtraps in rear-end collisions, in the fine Ford Pinto tradition). Emissions and safety standards getting more stringent is a good thing, in general.

2 years? No. There's tons of retired crown vics from ~2008 that are still in use. Check out http://www.cmautowerkz.com/cmauto/recently-sold.html if you want some proof, they take ex-police crown vics, customize them, and resell them to the public. :P

As much as I hate the CVPI to go, we just have to accept it. I love it, it's a great car and it's loved by a lot and known as "old-faithful". However, we just have to accept that the needs in law enforcement has changed and that newer law enforcement vehicles are needed. I'm sure they've could had continued to run a fleet of CVPI's but it's time to move on. As much as I hate to admit it, but we have to say good bye.

Ya, and those people are called wanna-be's. You can have functioning lights/sirens on it, but you better hope you don't get caught using them.

The Crown Vic that we all know will never return. I'm sure Ford will bring in a design in 10-15 years and name it that, but it will not be the same car, just like the Caprice.

Hell, I loved the old Caprice, but that doesn't mean I want to see that design brought back. It just doesn't work in today's market.

While the Crown Vic is very roomy, it handles like utter crap. Your life is in the balance in any inclement weather no matter if it's rain, ice, or snow. At speeds over 100mph you feel like you're floating, which is not a good thing. The new PI by Ford is way too small inside. I find it funny that a car "totally designed for police functioning" is really anything but.

The Charger is the only vehicle that really compares to the CVPI, while maintaining modern features. It's got plenty of room, plenty of power, and is rear-wheel drive. Although the 2014 models will have AWD as an option which is great. Give me a Charger any day. I can't say much about the Caprice because I've not seen it. But if I had to choose a car, I'll take the Charger.

the crownvic is my favorite car and i would love it if ford would bring it back. but i won't happen

I'm aware of that already. But this isn't about ME wanting to buy a brand new vic, it's just to bring them back, in general.

Not necessarily, there are advantages that the police interceptor version has over the LX. Especially the fact that all it's parts are heavy-duty. Then if you buy a P71 with the street appearance package, you also get some goodies like cruise control, power seats, carpet, and more comfort.

The Crown Vic was a neat car. Even recall seeing photos of an old early-mid 1990s era one that was fully decked out in OCSO paint that someone had out in Europe. Sadly, Ford seems to be not wanting to bring it back. It also affected the Mercury Grand Marquis, Mercury Marauder (I've seen a couple used as unmarked cars by the FHP) and Lincoln Town cars (VERY popular with Limo companies, even now), which all 4 were on the same platform. It certainly is a workhorse of the Ford Family. Unfortunately, I feel the current Ford PPV isn't as popular as some here think it is, at least not in Central Florida that is. Most departments here have opted for keeping their Crown Vics Going as long as they can (i.e. Orlando PD, Florida HP), While others, like UCF Police are using an Fleet Commander's nightmare involving a mix of new Caprices, Impalas, Crown Vics, and older impalas being replaced by Chargers. Then you have many departments that have bought Impalas not too long ago, and not planning to replace anything too soon yet. Elsewhere, it could be different, especially as I know some areas have gotten offers to trade in their older cruisers for them.

Of course, like the 1990s era Caprice, I feel it would be unreasonable to see them bring it back. It's seen as too uneconomic to do so.

Yeah, I know in some countries, Police Vehicles are typically scrapped right away when they end their service life. Here in the US though, they typically remove their markings and lights (some manage to get them off completely, some have their former life still very much obvious), then sell them for around $500-$2000 at a police auction. Crown Vics can fetch the higher value though, as the Taxi Companies really want to continue using them it appears. So you have demand from taxi operators, other CV fans, people who want a cheap car to donk and people who are just looking for a cheap ride. My dad loves to go to them to check out what the OCSO is selling, CVs pop up in there too apparently.
