ELSv7 - Cars become invincible?

Featured Replies

Hello guys!

Recently I updated to both the latest LCPD:FR and ELSv7 versions.

I'll keep it short:

When I enable the lights (any lightmode, and any lights, on any vehicle), the car becomes invincible. The car is "repaired" constantly, every second or so. Aside from missing the fun of having your car break down during a pursuit, this also means I can't shoot out of the window (which constantly respawns), and the door bugs when I enter/exit the car (it's just a visual glitch, but still).

  • Tried it on every emergency car. Both my vanilla, non-ELS cars (ambulance, firetruck) as my custom ELS-enabled cars by LtCaine (most policecars) have this problem.
  • The AI (ambulance workers, cops, firefighters) also have this.
  • The problem appears with Express Mode on and off.
  • When I turn off the emergency lightning, the problem does not exist.
  • I'm running a complete fresh install with the latest versions of LCPDFR, ELS, vdH PoliceHelper, Traffic Flow and iCEnhancer 2.1. I use xlive.dll
  • I'm playing on GTA IV update 1.0.7.0.
  • The problem occurs both on-duty as off-duty (Entering a copcar as Nico, then enabling Express Mode)

I'm not having any other noticeable problems. A rare crash ever few hours when having a lot of (cop)traffic during some events.

It seems everything is installed correctly, as I have no problems with any of the mods, except for this one. I'm absolutely sure it is ELS that causes this.

Now my biggest question is: Is this a known error, or is it just me?

Hello, this is how ELS works and there is no way to fix it. ELS enables and disables several car components at once, which will "refresh" the car every time a light flash. You can, however, set them on steady burn (no flash) to circumvent this problem.

This is why I personally do not use ELS, that and the added chance for my game to crash.

Also; This is written in the ELS User Manual that you should read through prior to using the modification:

1.4 – OPERATION AND LIMITATIONS

ELS makes use of the vehicle components available to GTAIV vehicle models (also commonly referred to as “extras”). By toggling these parts on pro-ELS models in various sequences, ELS simulates emergency lighting patterns. Thus, ELS must be used in conjunction with pro-ELS vehicle models. Non-ELS models (or vehicle models not specifically configured to make use of the ELS features), such as the default GTAIV vehicle models, are to be considered incompatible with ELS. Furthermore, due to uncontrollable elements native to GTAIV, ELS is not without its limitations. For instance, though measures have been taken to reduce its impact on performance, particularly users with less-optimal PC configurations may notice a negative effect in this area as a result of using ELS. Furthermore, users will notice that vehicles using ELS will be impervious to damage while the system is in use—a side effect of which is the strange behavior of vehicle doors. This is a direct result of the inner-workings of GTAIV and, regretfully, is an issue for which a solution has yet to be discovered.

Reading the readme goes with any modification, read me files are strongly recommended to be read before usage of the mod.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

The thing with ELS is that it works with enabling and disabling "extra's", in the same way as the signs on taxi's. They are continuously turned on and off and to do so, the car needs to be reset. This makes the doors go mental and makes your car survive everything. Some people like it, some don't, but there's nothing you can do about it.

Thanks for the quick replies!

I'm sorry, I scanned the readme for it but my eyes didn't come across that line.

Quite a shame!
