What can I update?

Featured Replies

Hey guys!

Christmas is fast approaching and I want to update my PC where possible. Below are my specs, if you can think of anything which could do with an upgrade, could you please give me some suggestions!

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz

16.0GB RAM

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti

Intel 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset

Thanks

Then you could throw in an upgrade there to, say, proffesional or ultimate. Or even Windows 8.1.

How do you go about upgrading Windows 7, it doesn't retail any more does it? And I'm not a fan of Windows 8 at all!

In addition, could you maybe post me some links of recommended graphics cards to upgrade to if you get a chance please?

def upgrade your graphics card, the geforce gtx 660ti is beast, i run everything on ultra with it and i only have a i3. with your set up and a card like this you'll be looking very good my friend. or if you got the $cash, go higher, but i love the gtx 660ti for the price, it is def right.

Thanks for the advice! Will I be able to connect the power supply to my current graphics card to the one you recommended or not?

Definitely you graphics card, not that it needs it, but if you want to upgrade something, do that. It all depends on the wattage of your power supply and whether your motherboard can support a longer card. If you're running a 400 watt power supply, you might be alright, but if you have cash to burn after getting a bigger graphics card, I saw a 1,200 watt power supply on newegg.com for around $200, if not less. That should be more than plenty of power.

My 620W power supply runs my 6870 just fine. The power supply and case that once you upgrade, you can keep them for quite a while. I'd personally get around an 800W power supply if I were to upgrade. Keep in mind though that the power draw of both processors and graphics cards are dropping very fast, and soon you won't need such a power-hungry power supply, though it is nice to have if you need it.

Another cheap way to upgrade your computer's performance is to buy a relatively cheap heatsink for your CPU. I managed to crank my i5-2500k up to 4.3GHz on a $25 heatsink.

what is your current power supply wattage?

In order to run the Geforce GTX 660ti it requires you to have a 500W or greater, with Two 6 pin PCI express power connectors. I use a 700W Corsair i picked up for under 150$.

by looking at your current card, im pretty sure your card just run on power supplied by your mother board, so you would need to find out if your current power supply even has the 2 6 pin PCI express power connectors. (i could be wrong not sure)

Also your current card requires a 400w power supply so you atleast have enough to power that. so if you got 100 more you'll be good.
