    your trolling isn't funny and kind of annoying / ruining the thread

Might be?!

i know this is a little off topic,but has anyone come under the mistletoe with you yet?

Including Sam, which was sort of his point there. (by the way: Great Britain is in the UK, but not vice versa - Northern Ireland isn't on Great Britain, which is properly the island containing England, Scotland, and Wales. Instead, Northern Ireland is on the separate island of Ireland.)

It's this time again!

United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland

  • Northern Ireland (BELFAST)

Ireland:

  • Ireland (DUBLIN)

So Ireland isn't part of the UK, it's just part of the same set of islands that the UK is which are confusingly called the British Isles, even although Ireland has nothing to do with Britain.  Northern Ireland for all intents and purposes isn't part of Britain either, although it is part of the UK.  Generally, though, when someone is from the UK, irrespective of what part of the UK they are from, they will be called British, much in the same way that the Union Jack is the flag of the United Kingdom, but people just call it the British flag.

It is fairly complicated, but please, please, please don't just label us as English and think every city is called London.  That's probably cruel and unusual punishment.

All you need to know is England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all countries within a bigger country called the UK, and England, Scotland and Wales are the countries that make up Great Britain (which isn't a country, just a name).

And here's a list of UK countries with their capital cities and their stereotypes!

@Sam

From what I can tell, Great Britain isn't a country, but it isn't just a name. It's an island. As in, the geographic thingy which consists of land surrounded on all sides by water, but smaller than a continent. So "Great Britain" does refer to something specific, but it's a *geographic* feature, not a *human* feature (like political boundaries are).

@Michael

Well, the UK and Ireland are both in the European Union, so I'd say that the answer politically is "yes". Geologically, the island of Great Britain is almost part of continental Europe - the separation of the English Channel took place under 500,000 years ago, as a result of floods cutting out the Channel. Even 10,000 years ago, during the last ice age, they were also connected by land. So, geologically, also "yes".

What should we call the English than? Londindians? or Englandians? :D no offence intended if it does.
