Thank goodness. He definitely got what he deserved. As a Toronto resident, I'm super glad he's being arrested and charged. For those that aren't aware of what happened:

Ya I have been watching this on CTV and City News and every time I see that video you can see all the flaws that the officers did. Firstly the street was not shut down you could clearly see taxis and bikes going down the road. Another thing is yes he shot 9 times but it does not mean he hit him with every bullet but 9 times is over excessive for a guy with a tiny knife. And finally the worst part was when the supervisor who is the only one with a taser got onto the street car he tased the body of the teen. This whole case was just really messed up and unorganized.

As most of you know i'm a pretty big police supporter and will defend them all day long. I'm glade he is getting arrested, but its not all his fault. I'm starting to think that the Toronto PD is severly undertrained. Just watching that video it was a total cluster fuck. No one knew what they were doing 1 person had his gun out some others are just looking up at the stars going ohh look at that shooting star. Before someone comes attack me look at the facts, they have had more incidents like this or similar then the county of Milwaukee and Waukesh, in the past year. (All together is about one Million people) I hope something is done about this police department because the facts point to a under trained and under supervised police department. If nothing is done you will probably see more of this in the near future...

To be completely honest this not news to me. Here in Albuquerque, we have had almost 30 officer involved shootings since Jan 2010, 3/4 of them fatal.  Toronto is larger than Albuquerque any day of the week. It is really surprising that Toronto PD seems very under trained. Any way, if you wanna hear more of my rant, feel free to PM me.

Usually on videos of this sort of thing you can at least see some sort of reason, however wrong it may be, as to why the cops started shooting.  Here though, its practically just the same the entire video, you can barely even see the guy inside.  All I noticed was some sort of "take one step closer and i'll kill you" and then a pause and then shots starting.

I was talking to my dad about this and we both agree that he probably wont be charged and if he does it will probably be in a year from now. I believe though that the person who should be charged is the supervisor on scene because he clearly did not have control over it and he could have told the officers to not shoot but he didn't do anything about it.

We've had two or three similar incidents in the past two years. I'll agree with you that Toronto cops aren't the best in dealing with these types of situations, some of the guys are very good at what they do but for the other 75% they need a refresher or two on what being a cop means, as you can see in the video 22 cops stood around and did nothing; one can be heard calling for a taser. Sergeant was already on scene with a taser.

He's already been charged criminally. Problem is the supervisor wasn't the one who put nine rounds into the kid, having spoken to a couple of friends who are still with Toronto; the supervisor will probably be demoted and face adiminstrative action.

He does take a step forward, but not to a point where he would be coming up at the officer. He had been in that position before, moved back, then moved again into it. There really is no reason to shoot a kid 9 times when he's clearly unstable mentally, and is only armed with a knife.

As well, the chief of police has hired an outsider to do an audit of the police force (I believe he's a judge of some sort), and hopefully the auditor will find and fix any flaws in the training of the officers. In a quote from the Globe and Mail, from an interview with the family, addressed some of the supervisational misconduct that some others have talked about:

“Our family hopes that the SIU investigation will continue looking into the actions of the supervising police officer(s) and the other officers in attendance for their lack of intervention in this tragedy,” said the family, which has plans to hold a press conference in the coming days. “Over 20 uniformed police officers were present and no one stepped forward to stop the gun shots or offer any mediation … We want to work now to ensure that Sammy’s blood wasn’t wasted and to prevent any other families from enduring such a tragedy.

That's the problem, at no point were any officers endanger of being stabbed or attacked. The fact that they didn't try to de-escalate the situation using words (Telling the guy "Drop the Fing knife" isn't de-escalation), is going to be one of the largest issues.

William Blair did hire a former judge to conduct an audit in regards to police procedure and protocol, however it was discovered that the judge used to work for a private law firm that has acted on behalf of the Police Service dealing with Civil Lawsuits against the force. In addition the Ombudsman Andre Marin (who audited and released a scathing report on the SIU) will also be conducting an investigation into Use of Force practices in Ontario, already he has received threats from anonymous officers from other regions.

Still there under trained, that 75% other time should be 99%. Around here if one officer fucks up the entire department gets retrained in that area. This entire department needs to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up and retrained its pretty clear no one has any idea what the hell they are doing. Given a few might be really good officers but from this video it just shows a bunch of Idiots with guns.

I agree with you 100% regarding the 99%; unfortunately here in Ontario, Policing and Law Enforcement has become sort of like a private business. It's become a joke when you talk about accountability and internal investigations regarding bad and corrupt cops.
