Horrible FPS with good PC

Featured Replies

I seriously don't have a clue why I'm getting under 20 FPS on GTA IV, but 60 FPS or more on other games.

Here's my specs, which are good, yet horrible FPS.

Processor - AMD FX 8350 @ 4.0 GHz

Graphics Card - Radeon HD 7950 3GB GDDR5 by Gigabyte

RAM - 8GB 1600

1 tb hard drive

120 gb solid state drive

I just built this system one week ago too!

Then obviously you don't know how to optimize your computer settings for the game.

You know, not every know knows how to optimize those settings correctly, instead of commenting some useless shitty comment how about helping someone...

To OP: Same shit, lags for no apparent reason, same specs other then the CPU, and the brand of the card.

So if anyone has a fix could you please help us out? :p <3

Kill all your unnecessary services and apps in Task Manager, will help a lot.  Go into services and shutoff things like diskdefrag and windows instrumentation...there are a whole slew of other services that are failry useless but suck up CPU and RAM.  Generally if you try to shut-down a required service, the system will not allow it, but just be careful.

Also, try curbing the shadow and water settings by lowering those to "off" or "low" and see how that helps.  Keep detail, visual distance and traffic density down, should help.

You should see pretty smooth frames with your system.

I used this in commandline.txt:

-refreshrate 50
-framelimit 1

and it fixed the lag! Not 100% of it, but at least it fixed some of it.

If anything, use Razer Game Booster, I use it, and it works great for me. (http://www.razerzone.com/gamebooster)

I used to lag more when I went on duty, on LCPDFR, but Game Booster, reduced the lag enough that it didn't annoy me. :P :)

It shuts down all background processes, and dedicates your resources to gaming.

However, in sections like System Services in Boost Settings, don't check Explorer.exe for a program to shut down.

Shutting down explorer.exe will make all icons and ur taskbar disappear.

It's easy to restart though: Ctrl + Alt + Delete>Task Manager>New Task>explorer.exe>Press Enter

I WAS having the same issue especially when playing MP. I have a excellent rig, and what I did was tune all my graphics down. And now I have higher FPS, and I never get dropped from a MP session.

But where did you find that txt file? If I have to download something let me know plz.

You make it!
