My graphics card can't handle the game? (With mods)

Featured Replies

Hello,

Some of you know that I have the 7950 3GB GDDR5.

So the problem is, I have the Game4Video ENB, Fiona5 road textures, Carrythxd's weapon pack, all police models are replaced.

Everything on MAX, except for the bars are on 40, and I lag 25-60 FPS.

So, Carrythxd (Has a GTX 580) uses the same mods as I do except for road textures and he has a "High end Poly" Car pack (His v4 car pack). He doesn't lose any textures, his graphics settings are ALL on max. And he doesn't use a commandline, and he tells me that he gets no lag.

And even my 7950 is stronger than his, and he runs the game better... http://gpuboss.com/gpus/Radeon-HD-7950-vs-GeForce-GTX-580

Can someone please explain this?

Yeah its GTA :). But I would remove the ENB and reduce settings and maybe use low-poly cars as well. Do it one by one, to see if it has any effect. Anyway pretty mych everyone lags, just some more than others!

I would suggest lowering the settings a bit and see if that works.

If not that, could it possibly be the CPU or not enough RAM?

By answering your question, of course not.

Intel i5 3750k @3.4

16GB RAM

500GB HDD

250GB SSD

A few things to consider;

1.) http://www.hwcompare.com/11442/geforce-gtx-580-vs-radeon-hd-7950/

At higher resolutions, the GTX 580 is noticeably better if you don't have anisotropic filtering in use or if it's set at a lower level.

2.) Nobody benchmarked those two specific cards against each other in GTA IV because it's an old game, so how they'll behave in a game of that age is unknown.

3.) AMD drivers are generally not built and maintained as well as nVidia ones. Not hating on AMD, I had two 4890's in Crossfire myself, but it's a fact. Improving performance with newer instruction sets in new games may have ended up reducing performance of older ones in older games.

4.) The CPU can have an effect. You haven't posted his system stats yet, or gave any specifics about your RAM such as timing, latency and clock frequency, although it would most likely have very minimal effect on the game anyway.

5.) Remember too, that the architectures and thereby the way the nVidia cards intake, process, and display that information are totally different than their AMD counterparts. You're going to get different results, even if they're similar.
