Hi again

I think this is expensive, yes you get the software bundled (office 2010) but if you are a student you can get this from software for students at a very cheap price. Win 7 should be bundled anyway. Kapersky is great (I use it). I wouldnt pay that much for the phenom, i have that chip and its great but you should be looking at 650 for a phenom system. The card is good but I find i have to upgrade sooner so i think its better to drop down to gigabytes card 1gb 560.

If it was me id go i7 and I would quite happily search around for a system for you. I also build them as my Father owns an IT company so you know I want to get the best deal and know what the crack is. I cant speak for the AMD bulldozer as I havent seen any specs so at present its i7 or i5.

Lastly 800w is overkill you might need that if you had two gfx cards and 3 HDDs but 650 should be fine.

Kind Regards

The i7 is overrated. The real high-end versions of the i7 series can't be used to the fullest just yet anyways and the medium and low versions of the series are just immensly overpriced. Furthermore I don't see why he should drop down to the GTX 560 Ti, (if that's what you're saying) I don't see a problem with the 580. AMD's Bulldozer specs are known btw, I saw a benchmark on some german computer magazine. Afaik it beats the i7 clearly in power and surely it will too in price; once it comes out Intel will have to drop the prices for their higher end i7's to keep them marketable; so if you can wait, definitely wait - disregarding if you want an i7 or a Bulldozer.

Also, the 800W PSU is fine, it's always better to have a bit more than needed, after all then he won't need to buy another PSU if he ever upgrades.

The Office 2010 is only a limited demo, it isn't the full version.

Thats partially correct, Office Starter is somewhat of a crapware, you get Excel and Word, but only with basic functions. It's something Microsoft has to get you to buy their full software. My mom has it too on her manufacturer pre-build computer, fortunately, I had a copy of office around which I could install :)

Also, it is true that it is better, efficiency wise, to have a larger PSU than you need (for example, an 800W if you only need about 600W) because, to put it this way, MOST power supplies will throttle how much power they draw if you aren't using much. But, if you get a lower wattage PSU, it will always tend to stay at a higher draw because it's next down-throttle point may be below what you require. Tried to put that in to easy to understand terms. Of course, this doesn't mean you need a 1KW PSU....

EDIT: OR so I have been led to believe.

Hi again fellas

Ultimately this is my opinion and others will always disagree, its like cars!!

If you have the cash i'd go Intel at present. I think this is slightly expensive considering you can go i7 for around that price. Now i agree with Break about AMD i think the next chip is going to give the i7 a run for its money. In my experience the phenom is a solid chip but it runs hot. An aftermarket cooler is essential. In PC pro and Computer Shopper Toms Hardware all state the i7 is faster. But you pay for it agreed. I would go Triple channel too as the processor can get more speed out of its architecture. That was £1200 on scan computers btw. Because of the market hardware is cheap and may well be for a while yet!

I have just looked at nvida's site about the 580 and it recommends 600w min, my card was 550w and im using 650 with no probs BUT i only have one gfx card, one HDD so I can understand why the PSU's extra power wont hurt and again break is right- you wont have to pay out when you want to expand.

I think the 580 is a good card but gigabytes 560 is fantastic value for money but again if you can afford too then do it! All im saying is in my experience gfx cards move fast so I would advise paying around £150-200 because lets face it we all love upgrading so we can play the witcher 2 on high with its lighting ahh!

Lastly I havent used the i series so I cant speak from personal experience and ive gone AMD lol!! I hope that i am providing options for you as that was my aim!

KInd Regards

Intel tends to run quite hot as well. It's not just AMD.

Also, maybe this will help you out in terms of the video card http://www.hwcompare...eforce-gtx-580/

Build your own, simple. I'd pick one out but I don't do euros.

Euros are usually roughly 1/3 less than $ (if that makes any sense and is correct). Other than that go to google and enter

'XXXXX EUR IN USD' (to convert price XXXXX from € to US$)

I'd look at computers for future games if I were you, not current games. That makes what you buy obsolete out of the box. Also if you're a computer novice, I'd recommend buying a pre-built one like the kind you showed on that website of yours.

Are you trying to let him make some kind of Super PC?

I'm running a dual core E8500 and 4gb ram and I don't have any difficulties with GTA IV. Although I have a 80GB HDD (the one which came with the pc broke) which loads textures slow and a pretty shitty GPU (nVIDIA GeForce 9500GT) which can handle 30fps only in 1024x769 or lower.

Conclusion:

Your setup is more than good.

I run the same specs (not same but near.) as Interference and I run fine.

If price is a concern, AMD. If it is not, Intel. Intel generally has more calculations per second at a given clock than AMD does at the same clock. However, you can sometimes overclock the living sh*t out of AMD CPUs. But not always.

There are so many choices for gaming pc's !

I would like one to run GTA of course and Crysis 2 ?

Why is it so expensive and hard choosing one :(:(:(:(

That wouldn't be too bad. An ATI 6950 is similar to the GTX 560 Ti, but not quite as fast. (Source)

A six core AMD processor is definitely a good CPU.

Of course, the case is ugly as sin. But this is coming from someone with this with extra lit fans.
