HDD is too small. I myself have 500GB and i'm close to havng it full. Go with 1TB at least.

The GFXCard is good.

Are you trying to let him make some kind of Super PC?

I'm running a dual core E8500 and 4gb ram and I don't have any difficulties with GTA IV. Although I have a 80GB HDD (the one which came with the pc broke) which loads textures slow and a pretty shitty GPU (nVIDIA GeForce 9500GT) which can handle 30fps only in 1024x769 or lower.

Conclusion:

Your setup is more than good.

Its good, compared to yours.

I would probably choose a i5 k series, 6 gb ram, and a GTX560.

Price wouldn't be much higher.

Living in the past?

1. GTA IV will run only with medium-bad settings. Other games might lag out, like BFBC2 if he decides to go up from low quality settings.

2. I myself have a normal PC and it's a quad-core with 6 GB ram. That's not a Super PC, that's just the standart for today.

3. For the same Money that you get some Intel crap, get AMD and a better series, maybe a hexacore, they're future proof.

1. I can run GTA IV at 1440x900, Texture HIGH, Reflection VERY HIGH, Water VERY HIGH with 20-25fps. Which is fine for me.

2. Regular computers nowadays have 2-4GB RAM and some shitty dual core.

3. When did I said anything about money?

Setup is fine, unless u want a cinema gaming system.

The problem is, his GFXcard, the one he selected won't run at its best with only 4GB of ram and a dualcore, it's way too powerful for a medium-low system.

I see nothing wrong with his GFXcard. It's better than mine so it should meet the requirements for l33t graphics stuff.

You don't understand what I'm saying. The System is out of balance. You have a dual-core processor, which isn't that fast; but a DX11 card with VERY good specs. Doesn't make sense. He won't be able to use that card to the max with that processor.

If my processor, which is less powerful than the Intel Core i3 550 / 3.2 GHz processor reaches 50% with ALMOST everything on max then surely the GPU and CPU won't have any problems.

Say whatever you want, I wouldn't go with that setup. GTA IV can quickly hog 80% of my CPU when in a chase with my carmods and ELS so on. "Don't use ELS then" you might say, well I can and I don't have to worry about it because my CPU and GPU manage to deal with it pretty well. Even on 16x AA, Textures on Max, Water on Med and Shadows on Max + Proper ENB.

Well after all it's a thing of taste, if you're okay with a Dual Core, get it. Just saying that the system is not balanced. You could downstep the gfxcard to fit the cpu and then get a bigger HDD off that money, and 2 gigs more ram :)

This is a bit of a late reply, but I think this is a response that is valid. Having a 'Dual Core' doesn't mean anything bad, fact is, many of the i* series CPU's are still dual core, not all of them are quad.

I've an E8400, which is technically (given very slightly) lower than that E8500 (though mine is on average clocked between 3.6 to 4GHz), and a GTX 460, and my GTA IV runs fine max'd out, technically speaking, my 9800GTX+ used to max out all settings except draw distance, because it was only a 512MB card so it usually went to around 50~ draw before the memory warning showed up.

Now, I could understand if one was running an old "Pentium Dual-Core", as those are pretty archaic these days, but the Core 2 Duo series of CPU's are still fine assuming you have a decent grade one, particularly one with a 45nm core (such as the E8400/E8500's)

The processor is a dualcore and therefore sucks (If I'm not mistaken about the dualcore part)

RAM is too little, I would go with at least 6 or 8.

HDD is too small. I myself have 500GB and i'm close to havng it full. Go with 1TB at least.

The GFXCard is good.

Windows too.

I have 750 gb HDD and it runs perfectly.

It's not a thing of running perfectly, it's a thing of having enough storage if you like hording your data, like I do.
