Connecticut (USA) Elementary School Shooting

Featured Replies

Liberal solution: Ban all guns. (Obama is talking about an Assault Rifle ban.)  Guns don't hurt people, people hurt people. Lay a gun on a table and if no one touches it, I bet my life it will not discharge. RIP to all who lost loved ones, especially the children.

Another one? There are some fucked up people in the world, just the other day I was reading about that Mall shooting that left two people dead, but innocent kids? No. That's just awful. I wish he'd somehow managed to survive shooting himself so the cops could throw him in prison and let him rot.

I'd rather not support him for the rest of his poor excuse of a life, just my opinion.

If not for these acts of bravery and selflessness, the death toll in Connecticut could have been worse.

- An unknown person in the principal's office who turned on the school's loudspeaker
- The 6-year-old who led his friends out of class after his teacher got shot
- The teacher who told her students they would get to go home for Christmas, and barricaded them in the bathroom
- The custodian who went from classroom-to-classroom warning of a gunman

Also there is one in there about a kid wanting  to become a cop, but he can't because he is blind, or can he?

I don't think banning all guns is the solution (I own a rifle and handgun myself), but there should be better regulations on firearms. The fact that right now I can go out to my local gun store and buy all the assault rifles I want without any kind of firearm registration or waiting period is rediculous (and it might vary state to state but my state is pretty conserative when it comes to guns). Additionally people should have to have a license to own a firearm just like we need a license to drive. Too many people can just go out and buy firearms without having to get any kind of training or education on firearms. If that doesn't reduce the number of violent crimes then it would at least reduce the number of accidents where people injure or kill themself or someone else with a firearm.

Guys, this thread is meant to be our way of declaring our deepest sympathy for the victim's and their families

Talking about banning guns and getting into an argument over it isn't just stupid, its downright disrespectful.

If you want to talk about the legislation regarding any kind of weapon, please do it in another thread.

But it is about why people do it and it is about what we can do to make sure the wrong people don't get their hands on weapons. People always say "Oh we shouldn't be talking about this, we should be mourning" but look at this past week. A shooting in Orgeon and people said it was too soon to talk about gun control, then not even a week later another shooting. So now we can't talk about the issues again? Are we just going to wait until next week when there might be another shooting and then it will be, yet again, too soon to talk about it? The issues need to be talked about so we can better combat these incidents.

I was talking about the Columbine shooters, who did they have to watch on the news? I know there were shootings before them but it wasn't as common. And while it is law enforcement's job to investigate these shootings it is not their job to create legislation to help combat these problems, that is the job of the politicians. Now I don't know if your old enough to vote but when I vote for I like to know what the canadites positions are on certain issues and current events. If these current events are not talked about how can I know what my position is on it or the canadites position is on it?

this is what i mean exactly,
