A traffic officer with the Metropolitan Police (London).

  • The Central Intelligence Agency is, as the name says, an intelligence agency and not a law enforcement agency. The information they collect and analyse can however be used for law enforcement purposes

  • APD Atlanta PD You are absolutely hated by 90% of the city. They are so few that they are all protecting Atlanta from going to anarchy. This sums it up.

I such a noob :) Whats it called then?

I don't think i could ever be a cop in anywhere but Canada or U.S, but i would either be NYPD,CHP, LAPD, RCMP or HRP lol

I'm following a master degree in criminology but I'm pretty sure my degree isn't valid in the US.

Of course it is!

"You tell me exactly what you want, and I will very carefully explain to you why it cannot be."

My dream department is the New South Wales Police in Australia as a Highway Patrol Officer, I reckon it would be an amazing career, either that or somewhere like victoria police of the australian federal police.

I've dreamed of that my entire life but as I got older, I learned to accept the fact that it is virtually impossible. You have to bear in mind that to be able to work as a LEO in the US, you have to be an American citizen. Owners of a green card can become US citizens after 5 years. This would mean that you have to do another job for at least 5 years. Only then will you be able to apply. And that's just a start. I'm following a master degree in criminology but I'm pretty sure my degree isn't valid in the US. So this would mean I'd have to start all over, learning a completely different justice system.

Also, the only way to obtain a visa is a Work visa or a Family based Immigrant Visa. So either marry an American citizen or make sure you already have a job there before you move.

If I were you, I'd stick to the RPU  Nonetheless, I wish you all the best in pursuing your dream!

Now, on topic, when I graduate in a couple of months, I'll apply at a police academy and hopefully get selected. Based on my 3 months internship with them, I'd like to join the Federal Judicial police as a detective.

If you can get into the USA, I must say you have a rather good chance. I can speak personally for you on behalf of the City of Orange. My grandfather helped usher in that PD and they love getting people in from out of the USA(who can speak amazing english of course) I believe they have 3 officers from canada, 2 from australia and 4 or 5 from the UK.

However, the OPD is a very small department and they didnt keep them very long. I believe two of the brits stayed with them for a few years and then moved on to other departments in the US.

Best of luck :D

To all the folks foreign to the states.... don't get discouraged, the department I currently work for has 3 brits, and 1 Australian currently employed as police officers, It's easier than you may think.

For me.. besides my current department, I'd go LAPD and be a badass lol

Of course Landpolizei in Deutschland as I'm very familiar with Deutsch.

Or in my country (Serbia), I'd a police inspector.

Of course it is!

Are you sure? I know that with the Bologna structure, bachelor and master degrees are accepted throughout the entire European Union but I didn't know this includes the US as well. If that's the case, my dream yet lives.

Thank you for giving me hope. It's people like you who make me want to move to the US in the first place. However, you do have to be an American citizen in order to work as a LEO, am I right? Doesn't this take at least 5 years when you move to the US?
