MTFO: Move The F*** Over 4.0.0

(19 reviews)

MTFO

Enhance traffic control and AI behavior when you are responding to a call with your lights and siren active. MTFO aims to create a more realistic and immersive experience by making the AI drivers react in a more intelligent and 'human-like' way to your sirens, rather than swerving all over the place.

Disclaimer:

GTA AI is extremely temperamental, and you may encounter some edge cases and odd AI behavior; these issues will be addressed in later updates. Please report any problems 😁
The best place to get support or suggest changes would be on Discord

Features:

Extensive customization of AI actions via the MTFO.ini file. Configuration is reloaded when going on/off duty.

  • Opticom Intersection Control: As you approach intersections with traffic lights, this feature will automatically turn the light green in your direction. This can be disabled via the EnableOpticom setting in the configuration file.

  • Intelligent Yielding: On highways, vehicles traveling in the same direction as you will switch lanes if they are blocking your path, if no lane is available they will attempt to come to a smooth stop on the wide of the road. They will attempt to find a safe space to pull over if you are in the furthermost right lane.

  • Oncoming Traffic Braking: Vehicles in the oncoming lane will slow down or come to a stop as you pass them on highways, rather than aggressively swerving. This is controlled by the EnableOncomingBraking setting.

  • Dynamic Intersection Clearing: When you are approaching a major intersection (with traffic lights or stop signs), cross-traffic will be instructed to stop, clearing the way for you without having to navigate around other vehicles. Toggled via EnableIntersectionControl.

  • Around Player Overtaking: When you are stopped, vehicles behind you will attempt to safely overtake your vehicle rather than getting stuck behind you. This is particularly useful during traffic stops or when you are stationary on a roadway for any reason. This is managed by the EnableAroundPlayerLogic setting.

With the update to v4, the custom yielding now primarily functions on freeways/highways to make yielding more realistic in these scenarios. Please do not use your old ini; replace it with the new one; it will not function properly with v4, as I have rewritten the majority of the codebase.

Update desc to fit v4

What's New in Version 4.0.0

Released

Changes from Version 4.0.0:

- Almost complete redesign of vehicle yielding. Custom yielding now primarily focuses on highways/freeways rather than city environments, with much more intelligent yielding based off lane and road position.
- Your old ini file is NOT compatible with v4, please replace your current ini with the new one.

I have noticed that when pursuing oncoming traffic, it randomly swerves into my lane. Here is a video where you can see it at the beginning. It only seems to happen on certain stretches of road, because later on a narrow bridge, you don't see it happening. Is this a bug, or have I overlooked some important settings?

I feel dumb because I have no idea where the MTFO.ini file is.

Doesn't seem to work if you want to block off a highway lane with your car parked sideways. Is it possible to fix that or is gta ai too dumb. 🙂

Would probably be because it detects from behind your vehicle, I may be able to add support for parked sideways/at an angle though when stopped. Vehicles going around yours is the thing thats most WIP thats why its disabled by default for now 👍

Very strange I haven't had that happen before, where do you notice it happening most so I can try to recreate it?

Cars get out of the way for a second and then aggressively swerve back into the road... hitting my escort from behind me, sometimes pit maneuvering me, and if im going a bit slower they swerve right in front of me after pulling aside for 0.5 seconds

I drove along the Pacific Highway there. I've also tried it in the city and everything was fine. Try driving along there with your siren on. Unfortunately, during a chase, you can only hope to drive along the road as shown in the video.

Appreciate the info, I will try to find what's going on 👍

Thats a limitation with the handling of the AI, they will always try and path back to the road, although I have an idea for how to get around it that I need to try. For now in the config you can try increasing the SameSideYieldWaitDurationMs, this is basically a duration they will just stop and do nothing until they try and path back onto the road, this could help with the issue, its in ms. 👍

Tried contributing an LML file, but .rar isn't supported :(. I would love to see this changed in the future to ease installation.

Try marking them (hit your traffic stop keybind but with lights/sirens off) then activating your lights and pulling them over I have been told this is a way around the issue; Blueline shows it in his video. Anywho I will fix it in the next update 👍

Can you discuss these settings?

[Same-sideYieldParams]
SameSideYieldCompletionDistance=3
SameSideYieldAbandonDistance=45
SameSideYieldTimeoutMs=3000
SameSideYieldWaitDurationMs=3000

I'd be curious about the others too but mainly these. Thanks

Agreed, it'd be ideal if the vehicles pulling over would come to a complete stop instead of rolling back into the street.

Next version will have comments for each config field 👍. And I'm working on the swerving back into the road issue now

i don't know why but i can't make traffic going around my vehicle.

EnableAroundPlayerLogic is False by default in the ini, it is still wip.

yes i know and i've set it to true. i'll try to find a way to make it work.

also this setting worked best for me to have the traffic not acting like fools:

SameSideYieldWaitDurationMs=4500

great job and keep up the good work! 👍

May I request an option to get Traffic driving faster on most/all roads?

The freeway for example, traffic is usually going like..... 35 MPH in a 60. Other stretches of Country Roads have traffic going even slower, around 15 MPH on what should clearly be a 50+ MPH road.

This is more complicated unfortunately and probably will not be included in this mod.

I'm having a problem with some mods.

I'm using MTFO: Move The F*** Over (FKA Opticom) and Realistic Traffic AI.
For some reason the npc vehicles move like way too much sometimes, they even crash into walls or drive onto opposite traffic to get out of the way, not sure which mod is causing this or if there is a way to fix this. I'm happy to switch to another mod if that is necessary.

I have never tested with realistic traffic AI so I cant speak on how it would work.

On narrow streets, traffic jams still form because the AI doesn't overtake! If you set one function to true, the AI will overtake my lane. However, a traffic jam still forms because oncoming traffic also wants to move.

How can you change this so that the AI vehicles consider each other?
