So, I have grow tired of seeing people being afraid of calling police Backup because the NPC Cops drive too aggresively. This the result of my frustration.

This script attempts to make chases safer, for both you as well as the suspect, by slowing down police vehicles on certain circumstances, like when you're recovering from a crash and another cop car passes by, or you're near the suspect.

Features

  • NPC Cops won't ram the suspects ever again. Despite that statement, you can disable this behavior this mid-pursuit if you change your mind. If you hit the suspect's vehicle yourself, NPC Cops will take it as a sign that the suspect is to be stopped by all means, and will resume HOT COP ACTION behind the suspect like this script never happened. You will be immersively notified of this change on their behavior.
  • NPC Cops will slow down when passing by you, preventing cop-to-player crashes this way. If they're directly behind you, they will brake harder to make sure they don't rear-end you. They ignore you if your vehicle is stopped, however.
  • NPC Cops will allow the player to be the primary unit when he's close to the suspect, leaving some space between them and the suspect's vehicle. They will take primary position again if the player falls too far behind.
  • NPC Cops can now yield to you. Simply honk and all nearby units will slow down.
  • NPC Cops will now try to manage traffic better. They overtake more carefully and brake to avoid running over running pedestrians or crashing into slow-moving vehicles. They even take into account other police vehicles!

 

WARNING

I consider this script resource intensive.

If you experience noticeable frame drops, disable some of the features in the .ini file to lighten the load on the CPU.


Settings
You can change multiple settings inside "SaferChases.ini" to tune the script's behavior to your likings.

  • Finetune how fast cops can pass by you [speed in KM/H]
  • Allow Primary Unit support [enable/disable]
  • Prevent the NPC cops from ramming the suspects[enable/disable]
  • Allow the NPC cops to try and manage traffic better [enable/disable]
  • Allow the player to force other units to yield to him [enable/disable]
  • Debug notifications [enable/disable]

 

Installation
Place "SaferChasesRPH.dll" and "SaferChases.ini" inside the \Grand Theft Auto V\Plugins\LSPDFR\ folder.

How to use

The script should start working automatically. You don't have to do anything.

The script will load its settings from the .ini again for any new pursuits you join, so feel free to tweak it mid-game.


Plans for future updates

  • Experiment on more, better ways to approach the issue this script adresses.
  • Port the script to RageHook if it people like it Done.
  • Let the player toggle the Ram Suspect feature while ingame, mid-pursuit. Done.
  • Let the player make other police vehicles yield, so you don't have to fight for a position in a pursuit. Done.

 

 

Troubleshooting
  • If you experience any kind of crash and you think Safer Chases has something to do with it, upload the RagePluginHook.log file you will find inside your main GTAV folder, detailing the situation you and the suspects where when it crashed.
 

Don't consider this a polished script, but a "cheap" workaround to a frustrating problem until better options are available.

  • Improved code optimization, hopefully by a lot.
  • You can now undo PIT authorization by honking near the suspect's vehicle.
  • Removed Primary Unit notifications, as I saw they were confusing people. The cops still allow primary if you're near the suspect.

Could you give me the RagePluginHook.log file inside your GTAV folder? That's where it says what's happening.

I'd have a suggestion though. What about going a step further and letting the player toggle the AI aggressiveness? Maybe have the pursuit be on 'Safe mode' when it starts and as soon as the player hits a certain button, the AI cops should be more aggressive and attempt to stop the suspect (using the standard LSPDFR/GTA V AI). Let's say it gets out of hand or the suspect speeds away, have the player hit the button again which toggles the Safe mode again.
That'd also be useful for when the player is just a helicopter pilot (since the way it is now, there is no way to tell the AI to attempt to PIT the suspect other than do it yourself which makes the AI aggressive).

That's the idea, but I didn't want to add yet another hotkey for the players to remember. Looks like its going to be more useful with a toggle.

Nah, it happens quite often that there's one suspect fleeing on foot and one in a car. I sprint after the runner (which is Shift) and tackle him via Police Radio (which by default is E) which would then toggle the mode. So I know what you mean.
Maybe have Ctrl + E by default?

So my backup wasn't responding so someone told me to download the saferchases again and it fixed it for them, played a little bit, the police responded but the script didnt work, still ramming into things and crashing into cars. after a couple of chases my backup went back to the same thing, just sitting there and no responding. I'm out of ideas here, starting to get really annoyed

Alot of frame drop when in pursuit and close to other police cars, I turned off all settings except:

I think it needs more optimization, I got a intel core i7-3970X and 2 gtx 980

I settled on this for an .ini and it obviously doesn't stop them from ramming suspects, but it's much less performance heavy.  I don't mind them ramming suspects either, just don't ram me.

Love this script, maybe for future development you could help us all solve the age old issue of:

  • Pull someone over,
  • Drag them out at gunpoint.
  • The minute you aim a gun or god forbid, fire a weapon, all nearby traffic tries to kill you and your suspect, as well as nearby officers.

If anyone can make a script that fixes that properly then you can.

Having the same problem. It also fixed it when i deleted saferchases.

Everyone who has crashes, upload the Ragehook log. If you don't, I can't check what is causing issues and can't fix anything, people.

I had 2 crashes as well... But for some reason when it does it my RPH log does not LOG it in..  there seems to be missing data

When I try to load the plugin it get the error " does not have the required plugin attribute" and "ParamiterPath: Assembly path". Any idea why?

Oh good. I am tired of the AI arriving going 90 mph after a pursuit ends with a 10-50 causing more accidents and killing themselves, suspects, and civilians.

Eddlm, great mod bro. I can relate when the police is trying to kill me and the suspect by running me off the road, so this is great. I do however run into a issue where a pursuit starts and I call backup and the police cars will appear in the street with officers inside but the engine isn't on, no helicopter will respond nothing. Everything works fine when I take your script out though. I looked on the RPH log and didn't see any events, but I will let you take a look and see if you see anything. I have a feeling it might have something to do with Traffic Police mod but I'm not sure because after a traffic stop assist if the suspect pull off into a pursuit, I noticed the issue starting and will not change even after starting the entire game over.

I am pretty sure this was causing my game to CTD, but it never logged anything to the RagePluginHook.log so I have nothing to post. Unfortunately I had to remove the mod and the CTDs have stopped.

This script so cool but sadly it cripples my game performance (FPS) already when more than two police backup units are in play.

Were you getting memory crashes to desktop or just random crashes? I seem to be getting the memory error embeddeddalloc 4 error now and I'm not blaming this script I'm just at a loss for what could be causing it as it was fine in the past.

 

Edit: Just played for a solid 2 hours with no memory crashes after removing safer chases. Disappointing as I'd like to keep using it :/

So I've been getting the issue of the AI drivers freezing up in pursuits(Backup spawns and does nothing) and have uninstalled the mod, that fixed it. So I re-installed the mod with a fresh download and now I have the issue again. I would be grateful if this issue was looked into.

If you're using secondary callouts mod take it out. That should fix the freezing police cars during pursuits but it won't stop the memory error. I had to take it out because of that. It's a great mod, wish there was a fix to this and I have a high end PC.
