Starsickle got a reaction from Stark2B in [REL | WIP] Wilderness CalloutsHey there!
Just wanna comment and suggest some improvements to this:
Possible illegal hunting
When this happens in downtown vinewood, I didn't really notice anything other than the corpse in a backalley.
Aircraft crash
Needs a lot of work.
Wanted felon in vehicle
This is similar to other wanted suspects - but if Imy guess is right this is the one that added the bikes? My backup tends to ignore them and it becomes a hot mess every time.
Suicide attempt
Needs better writing and dialogue. Also - very easy to break.
Public disturbance
I like this one - I ran into a few different people. I'd say that if there's gonna be a naked person, ensure there's a censored version in bikini.
Hostage situation
Any callout where nothing functions until you walk up too it and hit Y needs a lot of work and is very easy to break.
Arson
I like it, but the suspect will take a car at maximum speed and I always end up in Sandy shores by the time I catch up. A little too much.
Officer needs transport
A nice one, Could use some variation or custom dialogue.
Demonstration
Needs a lot of work, but could be great if more things were capable of happening. I always wait and see what happens, and everyone always just gives up and goes home.

Starsickle got a reaction from cptalpdeniz in Why was Ultimate Backup Removed? It's not a knock on anyone at all, it's the reality of the situation. Development is too slow. There's things that can be done about that, but there's ego, there's propriety, and there's varying flavors of selfishness involved in decision-making on everyone's part.
Flashing Lights and Police Simulator are early access hot messes right now - they're missing the most key features we expect from any mod of GTA - importing and modding of AAA quality vehicles and assets and a familiar world with a sophisticated simulation behind it. As long as everyone remains smalltime - the hot mess that is GTA modding will remain the only reasonable place for this kind of gameplay.
This is why LSPDFR should be put on github or some kind of open version control site. There ARE some of us who have the skills and time to poke at parts and perhaps add components without everyone waiting for years at a time.

Starsickle got a reaction from ZeroHour in Why was Ultimate Backup Removed?Well, shit. So much for LSPDFR. Those mods are indispensable and development is too slow to wait for reverse engineering or integration.

There is a github for the mod, now. You will need to understand C# and .Net for most mods (and version control and IDEs, obviously), but there it is.

Actually, it is possible now to add new vehicle soundbanks.

Can I get the full log file? I don't have a GameFiber called "LoadingSpinner" so I don't think the crash is coming from LSPDFRCA but hard to be sure with an abbreviated log.

Starsickle reacted to LMS in Sooo...what's going on development-wise?It has been summed up pretty well, we are basically 1 1/2 people working on the core LSPDFR mod entirely in our free time. From my own perspective, this gives me a few hours every now and then to work on it, time I usually use to work on new features and fix issues. I could use my time to interact more with the community and post about development news and I am sure people would appreciate that (and I also try to be reasonably active on the forums). However, there would not be much to show then as the actual development time would suffer. There have been a few attempts where we tried to have other people share more about the work we do and involve people more but ultimately they all failed due to the lack of interest on their part.
Personally I also much prefer the API model over an open source approach. It allows us to keep the complex core maintained by people who know the codebase and allows other developers to extend it in a component fashion. There are many parts of the codebase that I do not want anyone to touch (even from our own team) simply because they rely on specific game hooks, memory patching or Rage Plugin Hook behavior, which I also maintain. All this is integrated in the mod in a way that it can be hard to separate, especially when relying on V behavior too. If you have specific requests for the API to open things up, you are more than welcome to post them in the forums. Our next update will focus mostly on API updates as outline in the forum.
I understand that people would like to have a roadmap, but frankly we do not really have one ourselves. We have many different ideas we would like to integrate, yes, but it all boils down to how well we can implement them. More complex features usually take a few iterations before we are happy with them to ship. The great thing about the current ecosystem is that people can do things we would like to do in their own way and for players to enjoy even though we perhaps would not have wanted to use the same approach.
As an example: We've always wanted to modify ped response to shots fired and being aimed, especially from tasers. In LSPDFR 0.3, sometimes fellow cops would even flee from you when they saw your weapon, it is just how the game events were set up. Now there were some existing solutions (that also affected this and other behavior) that were very taxing on the framerate since they checked all peds very frequently for unwanted behavior. This was obviously not a solution we could use, so we tried different things. Modifying weapon types. Blocking ped events when shots were fired/on aimed. Suppressing shocking events via natives. Many different things that all worked so-so. Ultimately I went the extra mile and hooked the game's event dispatcher to intercept events, which worked well. Until it did not, because in order for us to intercept and check events, we needed to have the game thread yield so we could process the events from the script VM. So we had to come up with a system to artificially keep game events alive and only let the game process them once we found they were okay to be processed. However, this was bad for some events that were short lived and should only exist one tick (if you delay the damage event it is pretty much impossible to kill anyone and animations just glitch out for instance), so we had to account for that too. Now this gives us ultimate control over every game event fired and we can adjust every ped's response directly without any performance impact. But it took a long time to write and many iterations. Put simply, a roadmap does not make too much sense for us as we never quite know how feasible something is until we try it. I rather announce something once it is in a shape where we would happily release it than teasing something that does not come to life.
On a final note, we do have some plans to bring back the development blog in a limited fashion, but it would be like I laid out above, mostly focusing on stuff that has already been mostly finished. So not too different to the current way of having announcement posts every now and then showcasing new (and implemented!) features.

Starsickle reacted to Car Mod Fan in 1986 Ford Taurus (OCP) from RobocopI was wondering If somebody would be willing to make this car skin for GTA 5, thanks.

That's an issue with the model itself, the author would have to fix it

Starsickle got a reaction from LMS in LSPDFR - Tracking Down Various IssuesVehicle Storage:
I have a vehicle that I spawned, modified, and saved to the apartment garage.
When you restart the game, it reappears as its default red configuration, but with the modifications already in place - except the livery.
I noticed that - a modified Diletantte will save perfectly, including a unique plate that even returns my own ownership - this car does not. It has the default plate, as well.
Is this a problem at the vehicle.rpf level? or an issue with LSPDFR?
Empty Console Arguments Crash:
Providing an empty argument to a console function should only give a friendly error message. This might be a ragepluginhook thing, but it's important to always code functions/subroutines/methods/hoohahs to handle empty arguments, especially in console.
Settings and Choice for Players:
Is it possible for us to choose/config which apartment we will use for our characters?
Can we include an configuration option that sets the default start timeofday?
Is it possible to fix the game so players can create a list of personal vehicles? (I'm aware GTA5 has problems storing vehicles in garages correctly...)
Can we get more teleportation commands with helpful autocompletes for various locations in the world?
Is it possible that we could passively identify our fellow police officers as they are on duty? It'd be nice to put names to faces.
Identification system, PED Tracking and storage - CALLOUT AND PLUGIN CREATORS BEWARE:
It seems to me that there's several mods that try to access data that should be stored first in LSPDFR, but there's a critical problem with identification and tracking where you can get/generate/delete the ID of a PED, which causes problems when callouts go over large areas or start involving PEDs having to be "re-detained." This duplicates or even unintentionally mutates them in some cases.
As well, there's a lot of mods that could use the functionality of whether or not you actually HAVE identified a PED. I can PED-check someone in smartpoliceradio without even having their ID. Several mods will put crime information into a computer, exposing PED identity without explanation or without having properly acquired their ID (unless it's something like a warrant callout).
I think this might also explain several errors and crashes that may arise from plugins trying to access PEDs at different times. This could be for anything from current behavior/state to their name/ID.
PEDs should be as persistent as possible - or even given prioritized levels of persistence. Even though it's unlikely we'd ever see a given random PED ever again, especially if they are arrested and jailed, the game losing track of them and their vehicle, or their own inventory is creating errors/crashes/logical problems with plugins and callouts.
Interoperability and Properly Extending Core Functionality:
Without having the project be open source, it's hard for me to dive in to dispel any assumptions about what's going on, but the constellation of plugins we have at this point make it difficult to properly extend PEDs and items that should be attached to them inside a PED, crime, or other database. I can easily envision every PED having an searchable list of items provided we understand the API and have agreed is extensible enough to support illegality, ID/notID items, cost, value, types, and other data. It would most certainly make everyone's job easier if LSPDFR merged these features into the base mod in order to move the platform as close to ragepluginhook or the rage engine as possible. The best candidates are court system and inventory system.
The problems that result from not doing this? Well, Ever since installing LSPDFR+, I've lost use of the regular computer system, which it doesn't aim to even replace. This is obviously a problem with the plugin first and the base mod second, but I feel like attention should be paid to grant proper access and control over LSPDFR features - otherwise extend them to include those features. Stepping on toes should not come before making the game work better.
Please be more transparent and active:
Finally - We have a pretty neat community here, so please be more active with current work on LSPDFR and involve us and our talents as much as you can. I can understand certain reasons for the team to not go open source, but getting fast and relevant and constant feedback and testing on development would be great for everyone.
Glad to be here and hoping to make myself useful!

So you downloaded a fancy 2015 Tahoe and installed it in the police3 slot, only to find that it rolls more than your eyes when your boss is talking to you. Does your Silverado not drive like a truck should? or maybe your '15 Charger doesn't feel right. There are a lot of options to choose from when deciding which handlingid you want to use for your car. I've compiled a list of what I use for handling lines, and thus far, all have worked just fine. For some of them, such as the Silverado and Expedition, someone else might of found a better handling, and if that's the case, please comment below letting me know what you're using and I'll give it a shot.
Some people like to edit the handling.meta. This is not a requirement, the handlingid is all you need to touch if you just want the basics. Handling.meta is there for those who know a bit about modding and want to refine the handling lines to feel realistic.
For those that might be confused on what the handlingid is, it's one of the top lines in the vehicles.meta.
Here's an example:
<handlingId>police3</handlingId>
All of these will be for police vehicles, I will not be covering modded civilian cars. Also note that this topic really only applies to those who have modded their police fleet.

Starsickle got a reaction from 13696662 in All-in-one plugin installation PackageUnfortunately, there's egos involved in everything, and that makes this sort of thing very hard - not just in GTA5 or LSPDFR community.
Documentation is incredibly important and everyone should be writing mods and changes with the intent to pass the knowledge along. This is seriously one of the hardest games to mod and one thing that would make things easier would be if everyone began using comments in XML files, ESPECIALLY gameconfig and several meta files - explaining what everything actually DOES in the game.

Starsickle got a reaction from sssneaky in Stable Plugins and Visual mods List for 0.4.1Yup, You're right - Computer+ definitely makes the thing work. Although I'd say having to define my crimes twice is a pain in the ass. Computer+ should draw only from LSPDFR+'s definitions, since the court system belonged to that mod. It means double the work to create/edit content for both mods. I don't think LSPDFR+'s citations get registered in its own court system outside of specific callouts.
If both of those mods organized themselves a bit better - it'd be perfect. As it is, the river can't flow both ways.
It's great, though. I made Sorcery a crime (LOL):
