  1. To clear the air: Macbook Pros generally have better construction quality than a PC, and pretty good hardware that's comparable to a $800+ PC. They are not resilient against viruses, they just have a much smaller OS market share, making them a low priority target. Although due to the popularity of the iPad and other Apple devices lately, about 75% of major viruses in the month of June were for MacOSX, not Windows XP/Vista/7. Microsoft technically does more for security than Apple, such as ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) and keeping password storage in separate areas, rather than using something like KeyChain which MacOSX has. In a way, they both have advantages and disadvantages. The main reason PC's are better for gaming honestly, is because Microsoft has the DirectX API (a method of rendering graphics) and they won't let it go. If Apple, Google or any Unix/Linux companies ever got their hands on it, they'd take it and run. Apple is forced to use OpenGL which is slower, lower quality and is mostly ignored by game developers. This is coupled with the fact that PC users have a significantly larger amount of choices they can make for hardware. This is yet again, both a good and a bad thing because you can potentially get lower quality parts and support depending on who you buy from. MacOSX is often better for photo, music and video editors due to the software that they have a patent on such as Aperture, Final Cut (ever seen the movie 300?) and ProTools to name a few.
  2. I'd like to be able to pull over multiple cars that violate traffic laws, like 2-3 people who run red lights. I know the mod can only be capable of so much. though.

Vielen Dank, freund. 4th of July is considered America's birthday. Although technically it was really official on July 2nd. No problem with that here though. Freedom is freedom. I think our forum members in the UK agree to that.
  4. Front bumper to rear bumper, best performed during a turn to maximize the spin. Getting past the rear axle means you're pushing towards the heavier part of the car, reducing the effectiveness of the spin-out. Hitting the engine block is the worst since it's the heaviest part of the car. The only time I hit near the front is when I grind someone into the median or do a rolling road block (hit the brakes in front of a fleeing criminal).
  5. Sorry for the late reply. Yes I build my own desktops and I sell electronics for a living (so far).
  6. I'll remind you that Break is not a developer. The only ones who have a rough idea of when it will be released are the devs and the devs alone, and it will be when they feel comfortable with releasing their product without fear of backlash or mass criticism due to a batch of code that's rough around the edges. That being said, I don't thinks September is unrealistic. It sounds about right considering the demos we've seen, and how PPM compares, if we want to try and share features in common.
  7. I believe the mod is 'ELS Fix' in which case I have it already. You can force toggle cars that aren't occupied, or ones that are on backup to a location, but cops that randomly join chases will fight for control and always win. It doesn't work as I had hoped. And there probably won't be an ELS V7. On GTAPM it was listed as discontinued.
  8. Yes AI ELS is terrible. Not only does it barely work (I often have to use a small script called ELSFix to try and force the lights on which usually does not work), but it's very unstable. I switched from version 6 to 5, which has improved the crash rate, but you get less options (like not being able to use the spot light while your overheads are in use). The AI police tend to "fight you" for control of the lights. They will immediately shut it off as soon as you turn it on, and I have no idea why that is. The only exceptions are cars that are called as back up, ones responding to a call, or cars that are unoccupied (therefore they can't fight the lights). I don't know why a fix would be so hard to create for that, but I don't know the code so I guess I can't complain too much.
  9. Hello all. It's been a while since I posted something, so I thought I'd at least bang out a couple of short videos for you now and again, as I don't have the time for a full series like I did before due to my work schedule. But I think you all might like this one as it shows that the AI police CAN be helpful sometimes, and make the game more interesting. Enjoy.
  10. Thank you both, that will help a lot. Sam your programming work is appreciated, and I didn't think to try that command Francis. I'll use that if it happens again (I'll just try and remember not to frisk prostitutes lol).
  11. Call-outs are randomized, ELS can cause the game to crash (I personally haven't found ELS5 much better than ELS 6, in fact sometimes it's worse as AI backup cars sometimes flat out refuse to turn on their lights) which there's really no fix for since Lt. Caine stopped working on that mod and you can try a mod like TrafficFlow to fix traffic issues, Police cars and taxis used to be a big problem until I put the latest version of that in. Now the only problem I notice is that major bridges linking islands usually don't have cars on them unless I get into a chase that leads to one.
  12. Yes because a 9500GT is a scaled down version of the 9600GT. Graphics card companies start with their biggest, most elaborate card as a design. Then when they push that one out the door, they create lesser versions by basically stripping features. Less memory, fewer shader cores (due to 9600's that didn't pass spec or otherwise), lower the clock speed on purpose, etc. For example, an AMD 6970 and a 6950 are physically the same card. They just have different firmware. You can flash a 6950 to be a 6970 if you have time and some tech knowledge.
  13. Yeah I've seen people yell at the street preachers in the 2nd and 3rd islands and sometimes if two people bump into each other with their cars they will get out and start a fist fight. So it probably wouldn't be hard to script.
  14. Yes! You're correct it does happen with preachers, I forgot about that. Anybody with a set job. I'd love to shut the preacher up by doing something other than whacking him with my collapsible baton. I wanted him to move along, same with the prostitutes. Oh well. Maybe a future script edit can fix it. These NPC's have a "job" they need to perform, so maybe hitting 'Y' will stop their job so to speak.
  15. I didn't find any search results for this, so I thought I'd mention this annoying little error. When ever I attempt to frisk a prostitute standing on the sidewalk they simply keep their original posture, and my character stutters over and over. He begins to bend down a couple inches, then resets, then bends down then resets, on and on and on non-stop. I actually have to quit the game in order to make this stop. Have there been any solutions to this issue or is there a fix in .95 for this? I posted this because it's the last thing that made me crash. It's happened before, I just thought now would be a good time since it just happened a couple of minutes ago. lol
  16. That exactly what I said above. As for noise complaints, kind of a "meh" call, but it's probably doable even for voice work by using the "Okay move along people, nothing to see here." quotes from the AI cops.
  17. That's more or less all you can do man. Pray they do a better job with the PC version of GTA V. They read all the angry letters so I think they get the hint. Rockstar is usually a really good studio. I'm trying to get more friends to get the game for LCPD:FR and I can possibly start an LCPD clan. I don't think I'd make it as hardcore RP, but I'd like to "call chases" by saying out street names "Going Northbound on Holland Ave." etc. and having a backup officer with you would be nice, and better than NPC's big time. I don't know if I want to make people stay on certain islands though or have really set guidelines.
  18. No, no it wont. The 5770 is a middle of the road graphics card. And your TV resolution is either 720p or 1080p depending on how expensive it was.
  19. Break if you read carefully it says 'Core 2 Quad'. Core 2 is just the series of CPU, it is indeed a quad core, although, it's an outdated architecture by now. The video card shouldn't be the problem. mclmrtn, I would advise that you download FRAPS, run it while you play the game, and give us an idea of the average FPS you get. You might be surprised as to how low or high of an FPS you get. Sometimes the game play can be deceiving. But the bottom line is GTA IV plays like crap. It was a really terrible console port, and Rockstar Games should be absolutely ashamed for doing it the way they did. If I had to take a guess, I'd say CPU. 2.8 Quad isn't bad, but I'm running at 3.2ghz right now, and the newer Sandy Bridge Core i7's run a bit higher than that and have a better design, no longer have front side bus time delay and more overall cache memory. As far as graphical settings, if there's any FSAA of FSAF (anti-aliasing or anisotropic filtering) settings, turn them off completely to test it, and set textures to middle-high, not necessarily the max. The developers of this port say that even medium settings are better than what the XBOX 360 or PS3 versions give you, and that the high settings were reserved for future hardware that didn't exist at the time of development. You can view how much of your graphical memory is being used in the graphical settings menu, give yourself some elbow room. Last but not least, run the in-game benchmark test. It tells you what your average frame rate is, and you can adjust your settings further based on that. My system is newer than yours and I still don't have everything cranked. I'm running: AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition 3.2ghz CPU ASUS M4A79T Deluxe Motherboard 6GB DDR 3 OCZ Reaper Memory nvidia GeForce GTX 570 Graphics 2TB ( 2x1 TB ) RAID 0 HDD. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-Bit Also pay no attention to the Windows Experience Index. It's rated off of all available hardware in existence. So your hard drive is going to be a crappy rating due to solid state hard drives existing, and it does not take RAID setups into account, despite the fact that RAID increases transfer speed by striping data off of both drives at once making a technical combined 14400 RPM instead of the 7200 RPM of a single drive. CPUs and graphics cards are the same. My computer is far better than anything you can get at Best Buy, Sears or any sort of local computer shop you may have, but there are always people who have $6,000 USD to spend who get a few solid states and RAID them, get 2-4 580's or 590s and SLI them and get 12GB of memory and a Skulltrail CPU setup just because they can. I spent about $1200-1400 on mine and it does everything I need it to do very admirably.

Sure, I wont say that this needs to be implemented right away, but I think it's a feature that should be there since it's used in real life. Road blocks also don't have to be the stereotypical type. Often in real chases you'll have an intersection coming up where one or two of the streets have a patrol car sitting on them that "shut down traffic" to prevent accidents, and direct where the chase goes so they can trap a suspect later. It's a very useful tactical move.
  21. This actually happened to me once. I managed to spot a speeding beat up car with the same color as one I lost earlier, and sure enough it ran as soon as I lit him up. It was the same driver. Very rare. I feel cheated if an AI cop gets in my way and fuck up my chase. Most cops aren't that stupid so it kinda ruins it.
  22. The suspect running from the $100 ticket happened for the first time a couple days ago (yay!). It was a motorcycle rider with no helmet that had a passenger, also without a helmet. I tried to give him a $100 citation and he took off.
  23. Well 1.) Voices already conflict as it is, so I can't see it getting much worse. 2.) We can consolidate the number of possible voices for now. I already dislike having a random southern/New York/Mexican/black accent on cops that look Caucasian. Start small and work your way up over time.
  24. I have completed 0 missions and I have all areas available. lol I already beat the original game on the 360 like two years ago so I don't feel bad.
  25. I think it works, but the AI police are fighting back. They turn their lights off instantly after you turn them on because they're behind the drivers seat. If they respond to an actual emergency and WANT their lights on, they're on. And if they leave their car and are no longer in control; I can hit the script switch and they turn on and stay on until they get back in the car.
