Shoot-out in Saint Petersburg, Officer and Suspect down
Usually I never start threads like this, but I was really astonished by learning something like that could happen in my hometown in my country. At noon, in downtown Saint Petersburg, Russia, one of the most splendid city districts, Road Patrol service pulled over a black Subary for lane changing violation, and chief inspector captain Markov was heading to the vehicle when the driver stepped out with a knife in his hand, which he was trying to hide, and advanced towards the inspector. The captain asked him to stop but the driver suddenly rushed at him and stabbed the captain twice - to the neck and abdomen. The inspector collapsed on the ground. Lately in ER he was asked how did he allow this guy to get that close? His answer was: "I could never imagine that would be possible". Another inspector stepped up and drew his gun. The rest is caught on tape. As an aftermath one inspector is in critical condition and another one got stabbed in the face, suspect is killed. He caught four bullets before going down. So what you guys think? What did those inspectors do wrong? How do you think it show have been handled? As I said, even that captain was sure nothing wrong would happen. And that's true: usually no one tries to hurt police in Russia. The worst thing are some bruises from a fistfight with an occasional drunkard. Moreover, our police never kills people, they try to shoot legs or arms. And here we have a murder in the city center.

American Gun Control
Do you mean that gun ownership can prevent such shootings? I might be wrong but I think those shootings are a rare occurrence in Canada. They had a pretty bad year, no doubt, but only today in the States were two incidents, one with two deputies down and another one in a school. No gun owner stepped up and shot the criminal. So, the way I see it, shootings are more frequent in USA, and less frequent in Canada, and gin ownership doesn't help America too much. Don't get me wrong, I love America and I support the second amendment, but that reference to Canada ain't a good argument.

The Mind-Boggling Classic Cop Car Thread
On the third pic the background vehicle lacks lights and siren. Serves as a transport for traffic police volunteers. All cars on the pics belong to the police force aka militia, and all but three - to the Road police dept (GAI). Till 1968 there was no unified color scheme or beacon regulation, however the most commonly used was blue-with-a-red-stripe. Some were using a single light bulb, some installed red-and-blue lights. After that a yellow-and-blue livery was established, but again there were differences among the country. Cars turned grey and subsequently white during 80's (no reliable info on the exact date), and in 90's it was all sorted out: red and blue beacons were assigned exclusively for road police and white-and-blue became the main painting scheme.

The Mind-Boggling Classic Cop Car Thread
Few years ago I happened to follow one guy at dedicated auto forum, where he described his adventure of buying and restoring K-5 Blazer. It was a long time ago and he had already sold it. All rights belong to him but I don't think he would mind his car being observed by the real fans of classic vehicles. At first it was like: After some painting and inner parts replacement: With lights and siren installed on a car show (another nice car to the right) Another one, K5 Blazer CUCV. In her other life served the U.S. embassy. Licence plates from German Army base purchased specifically for that car. Nice envelope.

Citizen Pulls Unmarked Car Over, Gives Warning
The strangest part for me of it was the ID thing. In Russia, having bad police as we do, it's still a strict requirement that an officer must show his ID to a citizen whenever a citizen in question asks that, and he also must fully introduce himself when he addresses a citizen or vice versa, giving his full name, unit name, and rank. The only exception is if there's a threat to officer or overs. I'm really surprised that American police (open-minded and always glad to talk to you and help you, in my experience) is so concerned about IDs. Undercover thing is actually difficult for me to understand since here no unmarked units are used during patrols (legally allowed but never used IRL). Only federal protective service and some high-ranking officials are allowed to install lights&siren on an unmarked vehicle. So if I saw a civilian car here flashing blue lights I would probably speed up and try to get away. In America I got in trouble because of that: mistook two officers in a beat-up unmarked red Crownvic for crooks, and ran away :D They were nice enough to let me go with a search and warning. But really, the only thing that was law-related was a little blue light on the dashboard. When they got out, they were in dark clothes, with guns drawn, and no badges shown. How was I supposed to know that's police? It takes some balls to ask for an ID looking at two pistol barrels.

Shooting at the Canadian Parliament Building in Ottawa
Sometimes they are installed in buildings too, and modern models are constructed to prevent any kind of unauthorized passage, except plain breakthrough. And actually you won't get too far from the entrance since most of the doors are locked. On the other hand, the Western world is much more open towards people.

Oh they are. I wish they were still in service. Back in 90's all gangsters were using Mercedes and BMW cars, and Crownvics were the only vehicles which could keep up with them :) Now they all are scrapped or out of service due to bad condition, however, sometimes you can see something like that:

The soldier is dead, CBC says. What a pointless killing. Hope every other vics will make it.

Shooting at the Canadian Parliament Building in Ottawa
I never said Canada can't pay for a checkpoint. Here in Russia guns are also almost outlawed, but we have solid defense lines almost in all significant government buildings and some police outside. Just some turnstiles that could slow the guy down and allow hall security to aim certainly don't cost that much.

How on earth there's no guard, no metal detectors or barriers at the entrance of the Parliament? With a couple of armed police in the hall he would have been killed on the stairs right after shooting that soldier on the street. Well, judging by the article there were armed guards there, but no barriers or turnstiles. And judging by that live feed, it's a hell of a shootout there.

Behind The Iron Curtain, lol :D Note the light bulb on that GAI sign That lightbar, lol An extremely rare pic showing rear tabs with the word 'STOP'. Was only used for a short period of time. Road police van (I love vans, you know) Van with flood lights, no emergency lights or sirens, Mobile HQ. Civili buses of this model are no longer used by today. And even that.

10 year old boy kills 90 year old woman for yelling at him
Grown up enough to kill but too immature to realize what he did. Holy mother of gooood, what a mess. Speaking of prevention, maybe his parents would next time spend more time with their kid, telling him that all lives are sacred.

The Wasteland - callouts for Bohan
So I've just seen two calls I've never seen before, a car being stripped and a gang assault. On the downside, I wasn't able to mark gangbangers as 'wanted', and my backup did nothing to them :( On the great side, I love how you arrange all those incidents, Flash! It always has something personal to it. The gang assault happened at night in the park, and the victim was a jogger - and obvious late night fella who forgot in what hood he lives. Unfortunately, he didn't make it to the ER. And a stripped car I found roleplaying as a fat sergeant in a plain car, so I only got one bad guy, an old hobo, the youngin escaped. Car was parked on the shore next to the factory - a perfect place for it, and another shiny new Feltzer was standing by. So much atmosphere. So wow :) Still waiting to see prisoner transport and burglary, sure they won't disappoint!

Sam pepper accused of sexual assault
It's hard to prosecute a rape case since the vic should immediately report this crime so the lab would be able to discover semen and traces of violence. Meanwhile we were taught that only 10% of women go to the police after that. It's really, really hard for someone to come to totally strange people and start explaining those things. It's even harder to remember any details about the suspect. Many of the victims fear that the criminal might return if they talk to the police. Sometimes it's a known person, like a friend or acquaintance, which always makes case easier but still without anything but witnesses and victim statements it's hard to prosecute. Sometimes it's a setup when girl reports the rape and blackmails the guy, demanding money or marriage. All in all, rape investigations sucks, I think. Would never want to do that

Iowa Police Pull Over Couple in Labor (Or Labour)
That was really really stupid, damn. So many stories when cops helped people to get to the hospital, even providing an escort, like here. Instead he choose to put everyone in danger. And I wonder how long did it take for them to call 911, since police had enough time to install spikes.

Blacks are 13% Of The US Population but Make up 80% of the Crime
Race has almost nothing to do with it, it's social factors that influence that. Now I'm not American but spent almost a year in Baltimore studying law down at BU. My apartment was on Eutaw place, next to North Avenue, the gang place. As you may know, B-More is 65% black. I got familiar with many people from totally different places: some drug dealers from corners, some addicts, my landlady and her family, cops, lawyers, and even an assistant DA from BC court. I never forget that one evening I exited at wrong metro station and found myself in a totally unfamiliar neighborhood with vacants, many people arguing and all that. While I was standing there and looking around I was approached by a black guy in this baggy clothes and bandana who looked like a typical movie gangster who said "Yo, you lost or something? It's danger for you to be here, let me show you the way". And he actually walked me to the Druid Hill lane and there he found a patrol car, and the officer who was black too had actually driven me to my home! I never had any troubles during the time in Baltimore, living in this area. Only once I was stopped at night at North Avenue at gunpoint. Guess who was it? Correct, the police in an unmarked unit. And they were white :D But shit, when people grow up in those shit-houses and all they see it drug trade and they in that since they can walk and really cannot assess what are they doing, how can you expect them become law-abiding taxpayers after they grow up? It takes a lot of guts to change your life like that. And I never checked but I guess a drug seller earns more in hour than a mcdonalds cleaner, so there's no financial motivation either. There sould be something in the society which attracts young people: things like respect of the community, satisfaction from doing good things, family, love, all that.

Ten things you need to know about Isis
Ain't you talking about Afghanistan, where local mujaheddin were supported by NATO in 70's? They don't have much connection with ISIL and don't use American gear. On the other hand, ISIL uses many U.S. surplus taken from Iraq army, but Iraq was not "armed by the U.S. to fight the russians". True that. There only 12 thousand of those fanatics, damn it! I saw that pic, no know how accurate is it, but still, with proper NATO support locals may effectively deal with ISIL. Unless the disturbance there is useful for someone...

Less aggressive police.
There's a mod that reduces the quantity of police on the street. A radical way to evade that pursuit mess.

The Wasteland - callouts for Bohan
Just got a strange message at mugging victim callout at caterpillar street: as soon as I talked to the vic and she got in my car, a message appeared in right corner and was like 'an exception was handled properly; %insert something here%'. I didn't receive an error message, however this call was finished and a phone symbol appeared next to minimap. I attach the log just in case
