And just when I thought that everything will be fine it turned out that problem with blocking thieves is a lot more common.

I've spend some time trying to figure it out and it doesn't look good.

In GTAIV everything is peachy (not 100% sure, but it's way better). Peds drive as they should, but EFLC have fucked up road paths. I've removed paths.img dedicated for TBGoT and everything went back to normal just like in GTAIV. But that is not a solution. There is big probability that it could break missions in game. Maybe for people that ONLY play LCPD:FR it is cool but not for everyone. Also I haven't check whole map to see if traffic drives as it should.

Sadly I can't turn off those paths for the time when bait car is on. It's IMG file which is untouchable while game is on.

So here is another question, what is better:

- turn off hide out drive in TBoGT and TLaD (normal, wandering thief will be still available)

- leave it and inform players that they should remove EFLC paths (keeping backup) and pray that it won't break traffic in some places.

  • OK, this time I fucked up link in my post. This shout be ok. That flu is killing me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMSFAXhKeEk

To your first question to what should you do with the thief after they are stuck, I would say just a plane old foot pursuit...maybe give him a gun..

To today's question, I would just have it turned off until you can know for sure if the traffic will break or not.

Hope this helps! Good Luck! And thanks!

Problem is I don't have time to check EVERY place in Liberty City. I don't know which roads changed in EFLC. To be honest I think that there is no road that have been altered. They might added some new road nodes, especially on water, and switched on some of unused ones (like those which are causing problems for bait car), but I don't think that they closed any road that was used by traffic before.

If anyone know road that was closed/opened in EFLC pleas tell me.

The road thing happened to me quite a bit last night testing also when u spawn road barrier in car it spawn in rhe middle of my car and it flips over or makes my car break or get pushed over .... My observations the rest is fine so far

KUBEANIE was that in EFLC or GTAIV?

That barrier thing. Which car were you using? It should spawn behind you, in extreme cases (biiig cars) it may spawn "in" car but never in the middle o_O I'll make fix for that tomorrow.

Can't wait for it, anyone know's a date :turned:

Should be this week. I have some small fixes left. For now there are no serious bugs reported in current beta. I still don't know what to do with "closed-used" roads in EFLC bug and I have to write manual for whole thing.

All in all I'm pretty confident that at least RC version will be released this week :)

Is it just the story missions that'd break? If yes, then just give out the script warning the players i may break in-game story missions and they will decide what to do.

Are you using ELS during the barrier spawn? If so, you should spawn the road barrier first, before turning on ELS. ELS causes a rapid (re)spawn of your vehicle during operation, thus causing the barrier misplacement.

I think it will be something like that

GTA IV - all bait car features

EFLC - all bait car features except driving to hideout (wandering around still would be available)

+ option in .ini to switch hideouts on for people that are not scared to delete their paths.img file for EFLC side-stories (it should work just as normal GTAIV but can cause bugs when you want to play story missions in game, not LCPDFR).

Thats nice. I can just take out the script from my scripts folder when I wanna play the main storyline (I love TBoGT). Thanks =D

EDIT: I believe it would be easy for all as when you want to play EFLC, just take out the script, when you feel like playing the cop, put it in and reloadscripts =D Don't even need to restart the game. Benefits of being a script.

Not exactly. You would have to take out paths.img from EFLC/TBoGT/pc/data/cdimages/ or EFLC/TLaD/pc/data/cdimages/ to make it use GTAIV paths (they are still in the game even if you have only EFLC without GTAIV story line). But it's almost the same in terms of difficulty. I'll try to make check in script if game is using correct path, but I can't promise that it will work.

Hey Abraxas, just want to say want an amazing job you have done on this!! Havent even played it yet and have been telling everyone about it!

I think you are on the right track with what you are doing with the

"GTA IV - all bait car features

EFLC - all bait car features except driving to hideout (wandering around still would be available)

+ option in .ini to switch hideouts on for people that are not scared to delete their paths.img file for EFLC side-stories (it should work just as normal GTAIV but can cause bugs when you want to play story missions in game, not LCPDFR)."

That to me is a great way to get the script out and then at a later time when you have time (sounds like you are a very busy guy right now) sit down and with freash eyes and see if there is a fix for it.

Again thanks for bringing back this game, I am so gald I found this site and this forum!

Abraxas,

I think giving the end-user the ability to decide what they want to do on their own is going to be your best bet. Just give them the option of playing with the current bug AND also give them the instructions of how to fix the bug with the caveat of knowing it might mess up the original game missions in EFLC. This releases you from being the "cause" of someone's game crashing etc. In other words, it places responsibility on the end-user to make their own decision.

I think you're doing a great job thus far, your professionalism and dedication is really impressive! I'm happy to offer any insight at any time. Keep up the great work man!

I think you should just take the driving back to shop out for EFLC. In my opinion if you give people the option, there will still (unfortunatly) be people who dont read and then they will spam about their problems here. :S Either way, cant wait, i run it on EFLC because my GTA4 has all my good mods and i actually play single player, EFLC i dont i use it stricly for lcpdfr. So either way I'd be in good shape, but i support the idea of taking that part out. Either way good job and can't wait.!

Thank you guys. I think I know what to do now ;)

Also Nutt gave me a great idea for yet another scenario for bait car. It will work for both games but I have to test in what shape I can make it ;)

ultraTCT I won't fix it. It is issue in one of main EFLC files and I can't control it. Original taxis in EFLC have this bug too, just like my bait car. It can be fixed only by user, by removing one file from episode specific directory. Will it cause bugs in traffic or story missions? I have no idea. In story missions it is probable. In traffic I doubt it.

Abraxas, you are the BOMB! This is going to be so ****ing epic! Man i cant wait for this! You & braveheart should consider helping to develop LCPD:FR because you guys ROCK!! BTW, ur towing mod is awesome. You had no idea how long I was waiting for a towing mod! When this mod comes out, i will so love you brah! And braveheart's policing script! Seriously, you guys shoulkd really be working together. Think about how awesome your and his mods would be if you both worked together. But still, keep up the good work.

P.S. if you have any freetime, can you sometime make a tutorial on how to create scripts for GTA 4 because i really want to learn how to make some because I have a few good ideas for scripts.

  • Author

It's just little, but very complicated under the hood, to give some more fun and variety to great game and mod. I hope I will expand PoliceHelper with some more features in the future. To be honest Braveheart made many callouts that I wanted to include in next versions of PH, but I'm happy that there will be even more variety. I still have some more or less unique ideas for callouts.

About tutorial... no. My code is horrible and I really don't have that big knowledge. I'm graphic designer :D One thing that helps me with scripting is that I'm good in logic thinking and maybe totally weird way, but I can get to solution. I'm just not the best person to write tutorials, as for proper tutorial your code should have sense and my coding is more like guerilla in C# forest than homing missile ;)
