ArmA II Is such a vast game, with so much to it, that it's practically impossible to type up "What to do" It's a military simulator/shooter, not a hop right in and shoot em up CoD style game, it takes time to learn and appreciate, you might be able to look up some things on YouTube and see if you find some tutorials geared for both the game and the modification, but I'd rather just learn the game for what it is, and then get into the modification.

Side note: If I'm free some time, hit me up on steam and if I'm available I'd be happy to show you around such a great game.

Okay, thanks Justin. I'll be entirely new to this just like SA when I get it!

BTW, should I get Combined Operations or just the basic one? I've heard Combined Operations is better, what do you have?

Combined Ops by far, costs a tad more, but totally worth it, nothing sucks more than hearing your friends doing fire missions in a cobra and you can't even see it because your missing the files :/, plus I'm pretty sure you need it for DayZ.

I play DayZ, and I find it enjoyable. Depends on what kind of person you are though, some hate it - some loves it.

I'd be happy to show you around ArmA and DayZ, just add my Steam (id: theshredinator)

And to be able to play DayZ, you'll need combined operation (pack of ArmA 2 + Operation Arrowhead), while you can get it to work with ArmA 2 Free, it's highly recommended not to.

For the love of god, please play the game itself first, maybe add a few normal mods such as ACE2. DON'T install DayZ straight away, people who bought this excellent game just for DayZ are scum! And mostly are people who can't manage such a "complicated" game that requires tactics rather than what they are used to, running around in a rubbish FPS quick scoping everyone.

I seriously could not agree more with you sniper, It makes me sick that people have bought this once-great game for some stupid zombie mode which can be found in almost every fucking game.

Bought ArmA II for DayZ? Don't talk to me.

Played the vanilla game and decided to try DayZ? Fair Enough

You might not want to install any mods until you have had a go at the training missions, mods may break them.

ACE and it's friends get updates almost daily, I would recommend using Six Updater to keep everything up to date.

I currently have the following: @ACE, @ACEX, @ACEX_RU, @ACEX_SM, @ACEX_USNavy, @ACRE, @CBA, @CBA_A2, @CBA_OA, @heli_extras, @JayArma2Lib_new, @ldl, @mcc_sandbox, @st_lb_enhance, @stmovement

Non Six: glt_moab, loki_lost_key, sa_m109a6, stra_debug2

The mods you chose are up to you and the server you choose to join. Check out BIS forums and armaholic.com

I don't use any mods whatsoever. I enjoy the vanilla game enough as it is. The only things I've tried are police mods, but they're just extra missions with police vehicles and models.

I agree with sniper

if you are completely new you might wanna play the tutorials and the Single Player Campaign first to get used to the controls (cause its not like other shooters where you just need w,a,s,d and the mouse :D) Arma is about much more then just walk and shoot. And thats why i recommend to play the Singleplayer first.. The first time i got arma 2 i was playing straight multiplayer and got my ass kicked more often then in a BDSM Club

ACE stands for "Advanced Combat Environment" is basicly a Mod that brings a hole lot more realism to the Game. For many Arma Players it's a "must have" Mod.

You can find it here http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=12155

You'll also find installation instruction on this Site as well as more details about what ACE is and what features it has.

Okay, will be downloaded tomorrow. Stupid comcast people don't want us to have a fast computer until tomorrow.

Anyways, I should wait to get ACE until I get used to the game? So excited, added Justin, will add Jacob, just didn't have his name.

i would recommend it

like i said. i think for new users it's a playthorw the single player vanilla campaign and the tutorials. Just to get used to the Controls and the basics of it.

After you did that you can start using mods, play online and stuff

of course its up to you to decide to do or not to do that.
