Hello all,

My name is Alexandre, I am new here, but I already know this mod and forum, just created an account now :)

I own a small game studio in my country, called Odin Game Studio, and we will release our first mobile game this month or the next one. I'm a game developer with great experience developing games and now its my time to show a game that I always dreamed.

I would like to know, very much, what do you guys think about having a high quality police sim game (GTA style)?

I am a very addictive player of "police-like" games, playing the first police games (PoliceQuest, anyone?), all Swat series from Sierra, Emergency series and so on... and this time, me and my team will be developing the next police sim game, using today's graphics and sandbox gameplay style.

But before this, we are making a deep search about what players, that really plays this kind of games, think about it...

What I can anticipate to you is (some features):

- it will be a police game, you will be a police officer and act like one;

- you will have dinamics elements, like found in the GTA series (a city, NPCs with great IA answers, many actions, etc);

- a very unique sandbox style game (I will not spoil anything now);

- many things to do as police officer in a modern scenery and events.

So, what do you think about it?

The mission of this post and search is to know if we can really achieve at least some thousands of players interested on this game type/style. We will make a Crowd-Funding campaign and we would like to know who is willing to support us.

In advance, I can tell you we already have a tech demo in-house and we have the know-how to make this game. We are planning to get this done until the end of the year, with all community following the development.

Also, please, do you guys know anywhere else that I can make this kind of search and questions?

Thank you all in advance. Any questions I will try to answer here, of in our Facebook page.

Our website and visual identity just changed, so, I dont have too much to show you about my game studio, but we will soon.

We have already a Facebook page and soon we will have Twitter.

Cheers

EDIT:

Also, to clarify more:

- I will show pictures and videos when the time comes... for now its just a search of what you guys like to play;

- I am not asking for money or anything like that, I just want to know if you guys like the idea of the game;

- One way to help us is to know more people that like this game type and ask the same question.... if we know that many people like this game type, we will have a better idea about how to develop...

    Hey Harper, thanks for your feedback. I cannot say now all the features planned, but somethings you say is already deep in our Game Design Document :) There are a few things you, players, must know:

Just a suggestion, but you might want to put screenshots or a demo video, that way people can be sure that this is not a scam before contributing. This will probably get more funding in the long run and it would be greater publicity. If you are not pulling our strings, good luck and I am sure people would be willing to contribute.

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

Hey man, thanks... but that is the idea :)

The game is not ready, we have tech-demos only... I only want to know if people like this kind of game. Of course that anyone before really supporting us can check in-game pictures, the demo, videos, etc... for now, is just a "search" about what you guys, that really like this game genre, think about it... ;)

It is really: do you like the idea or this game type/style? If yes, are you willing to support if you like it?

our community is well over 300,000 strong, do we like police sims? we base our whole gaming activity around police sims and ways to make them better and more enjoyable for your average simmer,

would we support a sim like this, if you are the real deal then ofcourse.

but before you get started maybe you would like to get support from the lcpdfr team because if anybody knows how to make a policesim , its theses guys.

but the moderate answer to your question is yes you would have tons of support

Nice words, Mr. GoGetem... posting here and other foruns alike is really my objective, lol... I know you guys like this game type a lot so, getting your opinion and feedback will really help us to make this game the right way...

Also, I'm sure the LCPDFR team knows a lot about PoliceSim, getting their feedback will also really help us. As I said in the first post, I played almost (if not all) all police games that exists... before starting as professional game developer, I was about to enter the police department and become a police officer myself :) ...

Our objective is really something like simulation a police officer life... not just shooting and working... but a life... taking care of house, friends, Job Stress (one of the game Attributes) and much more... a simulation game, in a sandbox style, where time counts and add an unique style of play... you can die (for good), but you will be know among all users... well, this is just something about it... I can guarantee this is something new...

I just really want to know your opinion for now :) We will say more about this when the time comes...

Holy hell. Me and Nicolai had a huge discussion on this yesterday, we REALLY want something like this. Here's what we've come up with:

I'll adapt the ideas based on your company.

Firstly, the impossible ideas;

  • Fully licensed vehicles, this includes, but is not limited to, the CVPI's, Chargers, SWAT vans etc.
  • A huge open map

Alright, here's the things we thought of;

  • Ability to play the game online and offline, online being a co-op type thing for up to a large amount of players
  • A huge city, be it a real one or a fictional one
  • Dynamic Events. Things that happen randomly, this could range from some verbal abuse on the sidewalk to a mugging right infront of your cruiser
  • Unscripted Callouts - Players will be faced with every possible callout a regular officer is faced with (depending on the role they select). These events are unscripted and allow the AI to change the scenario on the fly based on the players actions
  • An academy type process before becoming a regular officer
  • CO-OP lobbies are made up of ranks that are determined by the AI or other players.
  • Players can apply to join certain sub-departments in the force, K-9, SRT etc and would get callouts relating to that department.
  • AI would have to be extremely intelligent and unpredictable so that players could have intense yet realistic scenarios and pursuits

I'll break down some of the good ideas;

Traffic Stops

When a player pulls over a vehicle, they can do any action an officer would do in real life, be it a felony stop or whatever. Once they have the drivers ID, they can return to their cruiser and access a database system similar to LCPDFR's. They can also request backup and what type of response (Code two, Code three etc.)

They can also search the trunks of the vehicle in a system like L.A Noires and find narcotics and weapons

Pursuits

Ideally, the city would have to be quite large and include a highway of some sort, this would also mean a large ass number of smart AI would have to be present so that responding to calls and pursuits would have to be thought out. The damage model should be something that mimics real life (I've seen footage of software doing this, so it is possible). PIT's would temporarily stall the vehicle, Spikes could be deployable etc.

I'll leave the rest to NB.

If there was a police Sim like this, It'd be thing thing I'd play for hours and hours. That is of course until I become an actual officer

Hey Harper, thanks for your feedback.

I cannot say now all the features planned, but somethings you say is already deep in our Game Design Document :)

There are a few things you, players, must know:

- This will be not a GTA clone game, with huge mega city and etc. Do you know that GTA IV was developed by a huge team (100+ people) and took years to finish, right? But that does not mean our game will suck, or it will have bad graphics... the game will have great AI, MANY dynamic events, set in a small-medium city and TOTAL sandbox... imagine something like this: the years will pass, players can make birthday in-game, events like city parties will take police actions to extreme...

- We are a small team, our budget is very limited (also will depend in our mobile game sales a little bit, lol) and so, we want to provide you, players, great gameplay, and hopelly we will get very nice graphics and a bigger city...

- In our current tech-demo, AI already have some custom life, reacts to police events (shots, talks, ...)

- Licensing vehicles is something off our limits, unfortunatelly

- Huge city will depends in how much budget we will have until there, and if our Crowd-Funding campaign becomes succesfull or not

- Also, if you guys here are really a huge community like Mr.GoGetem said, I really hope I can get many votes for the poll... it will help us a lot... but I will understand if I cannot get as many votes as I expect

Well, thats explains a little bit... any other doubts, I will be glad to answer XD

I think it'd be cool to have like a menu with all the different callouts so you can tick off which callouts you'd like to receive and which ones you don't so that way players can make it up to their local average. Or make like a "chance callout" option where you can up the frequency of a certain callout and make a minimum of another, just an idea.

The game idea sounds awesome, though!

Ideas I can think of:

-Based in a county, a highway system that travels through multiple jurisdictions, and there could be multiple agencies (state, other cities, county sheriff) so there can be multiple different areas leading to multiple scenarios. In my area, departments usually help each other out when incidents occur along jurisdictions

-If previous suggestion is not implemented, a system that states you are leaving your jurisdiction (kinda like how battlefield has the limited area to be in) and will force you to turn back

-Toggle-able first person mode would be nice, and especially if you could actually aim down weapon sights (something I miss about GTA).

-Toggle-able realism options, from health (realistic damage vs GTA type damage) and the variety of callouts (non stop action callouts all the way down to typical mundane police work only).

-Working flashlights on all police weapons, optics on SRT weapons

Sticks and stones may break bones, but 5.56 fragments on impact.

In regards to post #8

Holy hell is right, Those game ideas are incredible :ohmy:

I love simulation games so I certainly like the idea.

Seems like a really big project that needs funding, kickstarter is a great idea because it show me that developer are serious & shows donators what they're rewarded, so knowing that they will get something more in return would be the key.

kickstarter = win-win

With the medium city part, please make it so that for like every 5 buildings in game there are 2 that are fully enterable. Also, make a variety of emergency services such as local police, sheriff, SWAT & the FBI(Or federal police for people not in the US.)

Make it so that there are a couple of areas that are high with crime that if you drive through them you might get shot at & etc. because it does happen in real life in Los Angeles and other cities. Then have one part with a low crime area. Then again, you're only making a medium map, but I think some of the features I mentioned should be implemented. Say, make a map that's the size of Los Santos and 1/4 of Las Venturas from San Andreas? That'd be a decent sized map to police sim on.

that honestly sounds amazing ! Exactly what i think we all would want !!!!!! Especially the being able to pick you squad inside of your department. amazing
