Featured Replies

Is it just me or is the law going on a power trip? i took some friends for a drive in Downtown Halifax a few week's ago and saw this 2012 Dodge Charger Vehicle Inspection Cruiser, i have never seen a Law Enforcement Charger that new in Halifax, is it just me or is the law going way over board? http://www.flickr.com/photos/55378459@N07/7517247278/ they also have a van driving around with a lightbar that look's like a refrigerator unit, if i can find a pic, i'll post it.

Power trip; how?

The public must understand, regardless of what division or sector in law enforcement, having the proper "functioning" equipment and current technology, helps Law Enforcement better assist citizens and the community as a whole.

That being said, departments with Chargers and the latest Ford Interceptors, shouldn't be admonished for something that's current and quite needed. Today's emergencies, especially after 9-11, required quicker response times on reducing civilian injuries, loss of lives and property damage. I can guarantee you that; if the Charger or any other law enforcement vehicle looked hideous, however maintained the same capabilities, the naysayers wouldn't have anything to say. However, since these vehicles are quite appealing in design and somewhat desired, then some people have this notion law enforcement is spending way to much on something that most people cannot afford.

Anyhow, law enforcement isn't perfect, especially in budgeting (DPD), just be glad your local department is able to service you and your community in a timely manner, with the proper equipment.

Also since the CVPI's are NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION. And it wouldn't look nice if you are rolling around with out dated vehicles that cost a ton to upkeep which could cost more than the vehicle's blue book, example....couple years ago, my SUV's rear differential broke.....blue book on a 2001 tahoe at that time, a little over $1800 repair cost, $3200 get the idea?

As long as the cops know what the hell they're doing I don't care WHAT they're driving. Could be rollin' round on a damn unicycle for all I care, as long as they're doing their jobs properly.

Er...they had to retire an old car, so also needed to buy a car to replace it? If they just bought the car, it would make it a new car.

If my local PD took every single car they owned (assuming they were all functioning perfectly) and then got rid of them all and bought brand new ones, I might be upset. But buying one new car isn't something I'd be upset over in the least. I don't know of any agency nearby that uses all crown vics. All of them either have a tahoe, impala or charger, and I see nothing wrong with it.

My local PD, the one of my profile picture, Monroeville PD, uses all Crown Vics. All but 3 of our cars are Crown Vics. We have 2 Ford Explorers and 1 Ford Fusion(unmarked). Not sure how long until we switch over to the new Interceptors, the Taraus with the ECO-Boost V6. It will be so weird not hearing a suoercharged V8 going past...I always liked the Crown Vics.

The reason that light bar in OP link is so big is because it has a arrow board that lifts out of the top. I saw a video of it on youtube once. I'll see if I can find it. Found it!- 2:22 for the part I'm talking about.

Getting new cars isn't going on a power trip, however buying APCs and armored boats and then fitting them with machine guns is. This is also overboard: http://www.courierpress.com/news/2012/jun/22/swat-team-enters-home-people-inside-arent/ Take special note of the part where the article states there are no records of a warrant and the county prosecutor refused to show one.
