Illumination Mod

Featured Replies

No idea where to ask this, but since it's marked as a G17 project, I figure I'll ask here.

So I've been using This mod a bit lately with First Response/ELS, and while it's nice it's pretty limited if you mod vehicles at all it seems. Are there going to be any updates for this ever (As that page I linked says its "Final" already), or at least a way perhaps to let others of us mod it?

Main reason I ask is because I use the LCPD K9 unit in place of the NOOSE cruiser, and the traffic advisory lights and the grill lights obviously are out of place, where as it'd be nice if I'd be able to do something with it so I could actually make it use the effects of ELS on that car, particularly the yellow LED blocks on the actual strobe bar rather than the particle strobes (which tend to flash a bit 'off' the actual strobe bar location).

Actually, it does work on other CVPI's but...it looks rather odd if you have the RED BLUE setup like i have and the illumination is BLUE RED

I'm not saying it's ridiculously off looking, the red/blue strobes actually are about the -only- thing that are fairly spot on, but you can't say it wouldn't look pretty cool if the traffic advisory 'strobes' actually used the yellow LED bricks in the strobe bar instead no?

I know it was also designed with only one car, but the mod is also marked as 'Final', which seems disappointing, so I asked if by chance we could get more updates to this or even an OpenSource model of this mod, as I'd gladly try to tweak it around for other vehicles.

I'll try to record a fraps video here in a few moments and show how mine looks.

its the final version for that one car....Right now im sure the dev team are too busy with the LCPDFR mod to screw with illumination

Thus the term 'Open Source' : P

The illumination mod seems like the exact kind that should have some sorta modular system to it or available source for those who want to mod them for their own vehicles (I assume ELS some how works like this, since individual vehicle creators are able to make ELS compatible cars, unless all ELS compatible cars I've seen are G17 creations o.O)

Well most I can hope is that Illumination is the same some day, I'd love to tweak it some for this K9 cruiser, I tend to like it the most out of all the vehicle mods I've tried.

The problem with illumination is that it is much more complex in certain ways than ELS. Illum draws light coronas (the ones which every light in GTA IV use as their light texture) at specific vehicle offset positions which means that one build of illum can only ever work on one car as different cars have different offsets for the lightbars and other lights. ELS will work on any 'ELS Enabled' vehicle as it simply maps textures to the cars as 'extra parts' and uses a native to toggle the extras on and off. If I was able to get the position of the siren dummies or the 'Extra 1' dummy (Where the lightbar is usually located on non ELS vehicles) then illum would work with nearly all non-ELS vehicles, unfortunately this isn't the case and to roll out illumination for every car would be quite a workload indeed.

Illum is one of these things that I'd love to continue but just don't have the time or the graft to do it.

Would it be too much to ask if you could post the source then for others who might wanna do modifications of it for other vehicles? : P

I'd love to mess with it myself really, maybe see if I can't get it to work with ELS style textures as well instead of just the light coronas/strobes.
