Buying a New Gaming PC Soon, Suggestions?

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I'm looking to get a new gaming computer in the near future, and I'm not really sure what kind to get or what kind of specs to be looking for. I currently have an HP Envy Phoenix. It has OK specs not the best: 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 4770 Processor, 16 GB DDR3, I replaced the graphics card with a GeForce GTX 970 4GB. Currently, I am running LSPDFR on normal settings because if I run it high or above I get terrible FPS. I'm guessing this is because my graphics card isn't a 1070 or something, I'm not really sure, but it's very annoying. Also.. I can see landscapes / objects loading in while I'm driving and occasionally when I call in too many backup units, the game will fail at loading textures all together. I'm assuming this is all because of my graphics card? Anyway, the only games I really play on the computer are LSPDFR and an FPS called Crossfire (which doesn't require virtually anything to run smoothly).

I was thinking something like this, but I'm really not sure if Cyberpower is a reputable brand, nor am I sure if the specs could run LSPDFR on high / above... like I said I've only ever bought one gaming PC and it was an HP (stupid probably, I know). I bought an iBuyPower before my HP, but I had issues with it and had to send it back 3 times, which is why I decided to just go with a brand I've heard of. For this reason I am also leery of going with brands like Cyberpower, MSI, ABS, etc. I'd like to just run LSPDFR smoothly on high settings, so what would you guys recommend as far as specs / brand?

Also, this is my current monitor. Would you guys recommend replacing it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just wanted to say that Cyberpower and iBuyPower are owned by the same company and I would not recommend you going with either.

Your specs sound pretty decent, I can't imagine why you would have such issues running GTA 5.  Does GTA 5 run better without LSPDFR or are you still having issues?  Perhaps try to update your graphics drivers, sometimes it could make a world of difference.

Thank you for telling me that because I probably never would have found out lol.

Normal GTA works pretty well... LSPDFR seems to cause it to drop in FPS. Like I said, also I can see textures loading in while driving and when I can too many backup units there is a huge amount of texture loss to the point where you can't even play. I'm not entirely sure why. I'll try updating my graphics drivers (if I can figure out how lol) when I get home tonight, thank you for your help!

Dude I have almost the exact same specs hahaha. Air cooled i74770 and a gtx 970 and 16GB of DDR3 ram. I only have about 4-5 callout packs installed, but I have all settings pretty high (can't be more specific because I'm not on my desktop), MVGA, usually about 5-6 modded cars and most of Albo's mods. I have v-sync on and a refresh rate of 60 since my monitor is only 60hz and it runs a smooth 60 fps almost constantly with awesome graphics. Obviously GTA V dips frame rates here and there because that's the nature of the game, but I have No complaints whatsoever. If you're having issues, maybe you need some settings adjustments. a 1070 would be cool and if my wife approves, I'd like to get one at some point in the next year or so (lol) but I have had a different experience than you have so all I can think of is your settings may be off.

Yea it's probably because I have way more modded vehicles. I'm sure if I remove some my game will run more smoothly but I really don't want to haha.

My game had no change in performance when I had the entire CHP pack installed by the hurk (if I recall its over 300mb worth of vehicles). I also have desmond's realistic architecture installed in the game as well.

That's weird. I'm not sure then when I'm having texture issues. Just today when I was installing all of albo's updated mods I was having a bunch of lagging / crashing issues too.

i currently am using an i7-6700k 4.0 Ghz,  GTX 1060 Windforce Overclocked 3gb video card, 275 SSD, 16gb DDR-4-2400 ram, Gaming 3 LGA 1151 ATX Intel motherboard. it runs GTA beautifully with all settings on as high as they can go. i also installed MVGA and as many HD textures as i want. Now i built this using MicroCenter and you can get those parted out for around $1,000. That is including the case, fans, dvd/cd player, and 1 TB of internal storage.

I also make youtube videos and i get no lag watsoever using OBS during streaming/recording. I have noticed my CPU is only around 40% while i play and record. not sure if its what you are looking for, but figured i let ya know what i had and how much it would cost :)

I would try moving your Mods folder from your GTA 5 directory, launch the game and see if you notice improvements.  If you notice improvements, then it's definitely something you have installed.  If not, then it's probably more hardware related.

I know that LSPDFR hogs FPS like nobody's business. I've got similar settings as jcpse, and I get 60 frames before kicking on FR and I get about 30-45 with it on. I think that's just the nature of the beast.
