I need to rant.

Recommended Posts

I feel like I'm about to have a really angry outburst about Zmodeller. So to save the potential ban for overuse of caps and explicatives, I just need to rant.

So here's my situation - I decide that after seeing all this cool stuff that 11John11 put out on his GTA IV WIPs, mainly the Met Primo, I'd start looking into ELS. So now, the time has come that I want to realistically get into it all. My first port of call? Attatching a Met Police Britax lightbar to the Merit to make my Met Merit not only useable, but realistic.

And then the problems start. Firstly? There's no such lightbar on LCPDFR, or even on the internet, apparently. Now no holds barred, this is in no way a great big slanderfest against LCPDFR or any of it's content creators, but as of such, Double Doppler and Vx5Voltage are the only modders who I know somehow have the Britax model. Thankfully, my reassurance comes in the form of a friendly chat with @ObsidianGames on YouTube, who states he's making the lightbars for release. Not sure if that's supposed to be secret or anything, but whatever. Of all the problems in that initial time period, all were fixed there and then.

Then the roadblocks. I remember that Blender, the software I currently have on my big computer, does not work well with GTA IV models. So I start looking elsewhere - I overhear Zmodeller, while at a price, offers GTA IV modding simple and easy.

However, there's always the catch. This is the big one.

Zmodeller, for some absurdly disgusting reason, makes you use a subscription service. Apparently, the monthly rates are $3USD.

  1. I'm still on my GCSEs, and I can't have monetary independence.
  2. There's no way of working out how to pay in GBP.

This completely writes off me using Zmodeller, except for in a fourteen-day window. And even still, problems may arise - timing, sudden exams, computer problems, etc. - so I start looking for other ways. Not before I speak about the other way, I just would like to complain that even though preferred file format, apparently, is Zmodeller 3, they're still not offering up Zmodeller2 for free. So why is Zmodeller not free?

Quote

If I make it a freeware, the entire project will die within a couple of months after I run out of funds. When will the project run out of funds? I suspect, immadeiately. Noone beside me will be doing any addons or research and create filters for ZModeler.

Well, I'm happy the world has a free 3D application like Blender in hands, it's really impressive for such a work to be freeware product, so the spot of "free 3d modelling app" is taken by Blender, no doubt.

Like [REDACTED] said above, $3 usd per month is more than affordable for the most of modders.

The part in bold holds significance. Zmodeller does game modelling. Blender does not. I've got Blender on my computer, and all I can use it for is for future college stuff. In fact, someone else says,

Quote

OMG! you are comparing Z Modeler with blender ?!!
I didn't know any thing about blender, after you told about it, I download it and test,
Z Modeler and Blender really are not comparable . Z Modeler is more easiest to work, less bugs, supports many 3d formats and many other excellencies from Blender.
I my self really prefer Z Modeler also if it costs more than it is right now!
this is really better that Blender and Also 3DS Max!
do not joke here please! any body knows Blender and Z Modeler even are not comparable!

I understand, developers can be cash strapped, and I'll willingly accept an at-once fee, but in my current situation, a monthly fee that isn't even in GBP proves usage of it impossible. Unless I suddenly get a bank account, there's no way I'll be able to use Zmodeller without my parents jumping on me about a slow drip of cash from our bank account.

So where else do I look? 3dsMax. I hear good things about it, and I'm totally in awe at the three-year 'student period' it has. So there I go, making plans on how I'm going to download the sh*t out of 3dsMax and slap sirens all over the place.

This is the icing on the cake.

No mean to slander the author here, it's not their fault, it's just incompatible software development. So in the past hours, I downloaded this dev resource:

(really goddamn hard to find, apparently) And I was all hyped up to wait for the Britax to come out...when I realised that the model is actually saved as a .z3d file. (Sameer, good model, yet I can't open it. You did good, even included front and back plates, but I sadly can't use it)

The worry sets in, and I search the internet for answers, desperately hoping I can open a .z3d in 3dsMax. And here's my answer.

Quote

ZModeler is a modeler to edit cars of known games and can load/save a big number of exotic car model formats. Z3D (ZModelers native file format), is not understood by 3sd Max.

HOPES AND DREAMS - DEAD.

I'm just quite upset about how I can't do what I've really set out to. By the time I get my own bank account and move out of the GBP zone, I'll have forgotten about this project entirely. I was so hyped for this, too. I wanted to be among the greats, like Abraxas, Lt. Caine, Double Doppler, etc., but due to all those unforeseen circumstances, I'm stuck doing high-end textures for only >50 downloads at most, and even then, the models just disappear off the internet.

I'm not quitting LCPDFR, though. I've just been really put down. Yes, I'm still taking that GCSE break, but I'll be back on all cylinders when the exams are over. It's just such a punch in the gut that all this had to happen.

/rant. I'm not slandering anyone - I could have gone the other way, but I decided not to - I just really need to get this baggage off my chest. If this is in some wrong place somewhere, I'll happily accept a move, but I'll be put down worse by a lock. No offense to the mods, its just that I need to pull through this crash somehow, and maybe get some other support from other modders.

To close out this long-as-heck thread, here's some befitting music I had in my head while typing this all up.

Sorry if I offended anyone.

It's been three years, but I'm back again...

The fee is only $4 USD monthly. A one-time purchase won't cut it for a program like this for the most part, the developer NEEDS the money in order to keep the program up to date and give it the updates it needs. It's the main source of income to the project. Really, $4 isn't much at all, I could get twice that in spare change from my ashtray in my car. As for the GBP, how would someone like DoubleDoppler be able to pay the fee to Zmodeler3? Use the support forums for Zmodeler or ask somebody in GB that uses Zmodeler. Oleg is very helpful on the Zmodeler forums and responds usually within a day or less. The issue with using 3DS Max like you stated, it doesn't work with GTA V. You will need Zmodeler3 at some point in order to convert the cars to run in GTA V. There's no way around it.

Sadly, the issue here is that I can't even pay with that amount of money - I can't manage my own bank account yet, and even still, my parents will be wondering why like 2p or so is going away to America.

I understand the whole money for something thing, and I don't want to sound rude, but unfortunately, it's a big roadblock for me. Sure, you with your bank accounts and independent lifestyles may pay for it, but I'm still in school, and I can't legally have a bank account, I think, until next August, which is my birthday.

It's just those little things that the condition I have makes it harder for me to do the things I want to do.

Before I had my own debit card, I used to have my parents buy me prepaid debit cards with a set amount of money on them from the supermarket. Surely you could just ask your parents for like 20 pounds on a prepaid card and then you can renew your subscription for a few months.

Tesco and any PayPoint have prepaid debit cards in the gift cards section.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Having an actual bank account is better. As, over here, those prepaid cards are $5 each, and then you have to actually put money on them too. It's very expensive if you keep buying them. Now I've got a debit card with zero fees, so when I start working all the money I earn can go onto it, and my parents can give me a little bit if I need some money for something.

I always used to use my parents (well my dads) bank/paypal (with my own money.. just added it to his account). I didn't even know these prepaid things existed. Having my own bank account with paypal is a lot more easier.. Although i do die a little inside when my bank statements turn up every 6 months.

I always thought you could get a bank account at any time, although if you're under the age of 18 your parents may need to authorize it.

If you want to me reply as soon as possible, then either quote or @CouthInk4  me as i'll be notified, a general reply will not notify me

1. I presume you're 16 because of you mention GCSEs. Barclays, NatWest, Llyods, and others all offer young person accounts.

2. The payment service will handle the conversion. $3 USD is roughly £2.42

Its been two days nearly, and my mood and tone has changed. I'd like to set some things aside.

The tone, I admit, was a little harsh and gave obscure details. I'll admit right now this thread was a way to get this issue off my chest, so to speak, to avoid me from getting more frustrated at both myself, and Oleg, who I'll admit, does deserve the donations. However, as it was only displayed in USD, it did confuse me.

Also, the money problems. As my parents are protective of me due to a mental condition I would not like to disclose here, I, unfortunately, will not be recieving my own bank card like my sister has, even after I reach 16. Until I get onto (hopefully) independent living, due to my parents' fears I will not manage my money well, not even £2 or so a month can be sent. Also, should I ask my mother and tell her of the monthly charge, she'll likely deny me of it due to the monthly thing on her own card.

So I'm in a rut. I respect Oleg's work totally, but I did feel like I was about to blow my top there and then. Currently, it's 3PM on a Monday, and my outlook has completely changed. I know it's extremely uncertain that I'll ever get Zmodeller within this time frame, and I'm just going to accept it for now unless some crazy miracle happens.

I'll be releasing 'concepts' of the cars I were going to mod soon. Any other questions, AMA me. I'll answer what I can.

Similar sentiment here. I would love to make vehicle models, and already do stuff for many other games. However, that cost is just too high (all those £3 fees add up). I doubt I'd make anything to Double Doppler's standards, but it is disappointing to think about how many people must be getting put off by these costs.

Any ideas for how Oleg can get funding without charging a subscription fee? Please let me know. Or better, let him know....
