What are your thoughts on my local police here in Germany?

Featured Replies

Hello Community!

I live in Germany and was just wondering what your thoughts on my local police might be. I live in the State of Hesse, the state where cities like Frankfurt and Wiesbaden are located. To become a "Polizeikommissar" (police officer) here, you have to complete three years of Police University. During the time as a "Polizeikommissaranwärter" (police officer in training) you will have three internships and every semester the content will differ in theoretical and practical parts. After you complete the university you will be awarded the Bachelor of Arts degree, announced as "Polizeikommissar" and get your first star on your shoulder.

I will upload some pictures and videos of the "Polizei Hessen" to this topic and hope to get some thoughts and opinions.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask since I am working there as well.

Greetings

I think they've got nice sleek vehicles, a clean uniform design, and immensely attractive women as noted by a few of the images you've provided. Seems like a squared away department to me!

I didn't know and to clarify - all cops in your state are actually BoAs? That's interesting. It gets rid of all the people who don't actually want the job and just want to give it a shot, or that they just want to get cash while in training, which is something we get really often in the Czech Police.

Thumbs up.

I wonder why the new cars (at least I assume they are new) only have that neon yellow in the back. It makes sense for higher visability, but that does not ony apply to the back. Where I live (Für die Deutschen: Region Zwickau/Erzgebirgskreis) , all the new cars have it also on the sides and a bit on the hood.

Well Hessen used these liveries way before other states did. For the highway patrol they go all around the vehicle, in the city their just in the back. The highway patrol is going to get some new vehicles soon with more yellowish liveries than before.

Saxony btw just received 70 new vehicles. 40 new patrol cards, 14 Vans, 14 Vans for the riot police and 2 SUVs. The SUVs and Vans didnt get any yellow markings.

I've heard, they also have grille lights on their new cars now. Is that true?

Well, in comparison to other countries, the USA for example, German LEO's are pretty Well trained.

The average training in the US is ridicolous 6 month.

But there has always been a huge lack of lights on German popo cars.

Those huge lightbars with actual only to lights on it and in the centre the message board.

You can see the text only if you're close enough.

And it's something special to have grill lights on it.

But they must be mounten at least 65 cm over the ground and MUST flash simultanisley(?).

Dash lights are prohibited and only alternate or together is allowed on the lightbar.

And only blue, no red.

Some State Polices started to have amber at the 4 corners on the lightbar.

But that's pretty it.

Very poor because of stupid regulations from the slow and conservative Amtsschimmel.

Funny coincidence: Yesterday, the police department in Chemnitz received 4 motorcycles for patroling in border-near regions. Those are american and they have a lot of stuff equipped, dashcams, mobile drug detectors, fake document detectors, speed radars and so on. And actually, they have some more lights installed than you would imagine in germany
