brutality?

I am not anti-police just wanted to hear your thoughts. To me I am just not sure it looks like the officer was in the wrong but the media usually hides important details to kind of sell the news making them (Police) look bad.

There's no important details that they could've hid, other than there was a ticking timebomb in his cell that they needed to get in there to diffuse, or the inmate somehow had a gun. They fired a round at him that they never should have, and lied in the report. Classic brutality. I'm so tired of "failure to comply" being used as a reason to mame or kill someone. Take a little more time out of your day and resolve the situation peacefully.

Was that a real gun? (I can't play the recording with sound right now)

Nope. It was not a lethal weapon.

As far as the US law enforcement goes, no casualties as a result of the incident is already good.

In our correction facilities there are no non-lethal devices. They would have to beat the hell out of that guy...

With batons, bats or just their fists?

In Australian prisons, no lethal weapons are allowed inside the compound where inmates are held. Various lethal weapons including rifles, shotguns and side arms are carried around the outer perimeter during patrols to keep prisoners inside. There has been a big drama over the past few weeks about certain juvenile detention centres miss treatment over inmates being tortured (waterboarded, kept awake over periods of time, beatings and so on) which has led to a federal inquiry into the way children prisoners are managed.

Not to deviate too much, but some of that drama is just bullshit. The footage of the guy on the restraint chair with the spithood for example, that's pretty standard practice for misbehaving individuals but everyone is in a hissy fit about it like it's some form of torture. Absolutely stupid. The tear gas incident on the other hand was completely uncalled for.

Yeah I for one agreed about the guy in the chair with the spit hood. I have a friend who works as a guard in the JDC at Wacol Remand Facility and she's told me there is some pretty crazy shit that happens around there.

The rest of the incidents that were recently leaked looked very dodgy I must say, but the spithood thing is just silly. I see cops in the states using them all the time and nobody bats an eye.

It's quite common practice here as well, usually before being put into a paddy wagon/divvy van they will have them put over the suspect as so when they reach the watch house the Officers can't be spat on/at.

Exactly, just because he's a minor doesn't make it any different. If he was acting like a complete tool (which I assume he was, I don't know the back story) then the officers were in their every right to restrain him with the hood.

Ummm by boots I guess. Batons are "special equipment" and must be reported if used, bats ain't standard equipment, fist hits harm skin, so they're out of options :D
