Um where is the lightbar

it's a slicktop. I believe Victoria is the only state that uses Slicktop vehicles.. although it's the first GD vehicle i've seen of it, normally it's HWP

ok its strange for a Marked GD car to be a slicktop, but also every state has slicktop cars which is what detectives and traffic cars have too, not just victoria, speaking on behalf of the rest of the Aussies, also i can get you a pic or multiple pics of different slicktop cars from different states other then Victoria

it's rare to see a marked slicktop.. unless the division requires a marked vehicle although doesn't need to utilize a lightbar (like Forensics) Although if you have pics then please show me, I'm quite intrigued as i've only ever seen VicPol use slicktop vehicles

Well unfortunately those aren't really needed for a lightbar. the first one is a PCYC van, or used as some type of community thing (a police hiace wouldn't really be used for anything other than transporting/community based policing so no lightbar is needed), the second is a unmarked detective car it's not a slicktop (slicktop is for full markings with no lightbar.. detective is quite different. unless you're a high ranking officer, or if it's a certain division you're part of you wouldn't be driving an unmarked car) the third pic is quite interesting. I'm thrown off by the basketball that's visible in the backseat. I'm not sure if it's used as an off duty vehicle (unlikely) if it's a designated PCYC vehicle or if it's a GD vehicle being used for personal reasons (or a GD vehicle used by a PCYC member)

Yeah slicktops are marked cars with no lightbars, an unmarked car isn't a slicktop :P

NSWPF also have Hiace's that are marked but with no lights (I saw one last week actually) and they are used for officer transport etc. The NT car doesn't have any police gear at all by the looks of it, so we really don't know what that is.

In the 8 or 9 years I lived in the NT, I never saw a slicktop car... even the couple of forensics teams I had dealings with used fully marked/lightbared stationwagons.

That being said, I remember Alice Springs was the most higgelty-piggelty hodge-podge of police vehicles - it literally looked like they just threw a livery and lightbar on every members personal vehicle, their fleet was so random and chaotic. So I guess that pic could be from Alice, and maybe they didnt have a spare lightbar when that member started :P

I was actually quite surprised when I first got there. He just said he has no use for one because its all just flat terrain around (can literally see radio towers from 50+km away at night). I know the town next to him is also a slicktop GD vehicle with the same lighting setup, before this I hadn't ever seen the lighting setup with only lights on the bumper and in the rear windows.

Also on another just side thing. I was in the city (Melb) the other week for the boxing day test and went for a walk around a spot I know a lot of UC vics park at. I saw at least 4 of these parked there, never seen one before in my life (unmarked with lights on the dash and rear windows). I have pics on my phone

Slicktop 4WD's are designed so that in snowy/rough conditions they can put roof racks on top and carry any gear that may be needed. Wapol and ntpol have a few like that too

Yeah but Wapol nor Ntpol have snowy/rough terrain, unlike nsw, coz the only other 4wd's that wapol have are the Nissan patrols that the mounted section use and the unmarked vehicles that TRG use, as for GD we don't have cars with roof racks as they aren't need, coz all our GD cars have either pods or divvy utes

I can't seem to find any photos of it but the QPS is starting to utilise fully marked slicktop vehicles for Forensics, Dog Squads, SERT (have used them for a long time) and a few other duties. Very rare to spot them though!

Edited by HankVoight

SAPOL use slicktop vans and that's about it, they have a few marked utes that forensics use but those have no emergency equipment aside from a GRN radio and some scene lights.

So fingers crossed the fire truck will be released by Friday I'm just making the last component now as we speak and the rest of the equipment is all done and looking good 😁
