What should we do about map editor downloads?

Featured Replies

I've seen a big increase lately in files submitted to the site which are map editor scenes. They're usually pretty static and repetitive... ooh another plane crash wowww. Now personally i wish people just wouldn't upload them here unless the map has some RP potential, e.g. some of the DUI checkpoint maps which people use. But we can't just tell people not to upload lame maps!

So, I suppose there could be a new category for maps in the downloads section. But maybe that's a bad idea because it might encourage more people to upload boring maps. What does the community think about this?

I don't really see a problem. They go to the misc section, and regardless if FR creates a Map Editor section, the map mods will still be seen in the "Latest Files" section. So you'll see them regardless if the staff creates a new section. So few people make them that it's really not a problem atm, in my opinion. I just ignore them.

There's nothing wrong with users sharing their maps here. If you don't like them then simply don't download them i say. Just because this is a site based around Law Enforcement doesn't necessarily mean our Download Section is too, Our download section is open to any kind of mod, not just those directed at Law Enforcement/Emergency Services.

Fair enough. Seems most people agree to leave it as is. I don't mind scrolling past them too much. Carry on!

@CODEX12 this wasn't in response to any specific map download, I've been seeing more and more of them and they feel less relevant than most of the other downloads. But just like I said in the original post, we can't just tell people not to upload stuff!
