Brussels Under Possible Terrorist Attack

Featured Replies

My thoughts are with the families and friends of the victims, regardless of their nationality or beliefs. This tragedy affects all the people of Belgium, as we are a small nation.

Though we may be divided in structure, we are united as a people. It's heartwarming to see all the volunteers, offering aid. Taxi's are offering their services for free, blood donors are reporting in, people are offering their homes for stranded people, internet providers offering WIFI hotspots for free for communication, etc.

I myself cancelled my leave voluntarily, just like many other fellow officers.

It may be a dark day in our history, it's also a day I feel very proud to be Belgian.

Please stay safe out there. Mad respect for you going back despite being on leave.

Just read it in the paper. It states that the airport is not yet confirmed clear, SWAT will enter in a couple hours. Lets hope the best for these brave men and women.

My condolance to all the victims families.

Dutch officials arrested an individual who is suspected for the planning of terror.

Where did you find this?

This is about a 3 hour drive away from me....It's all getting scarily close. Very sad for all people involved in this, my feelings go out to them.

Significant action will need to be taken by authorities to stamp terrorism out of Western Europe. Europe's intelligence agencies really need to step up their game as one of the reasons such a tragic event could happen was the fact that there are far too large gaps in intelligence regarding terrorism. Combined with pathetic border controls and ridiculous government budget cuts in law enforcement and intelligence, such a tragic act of terrorism has been able to be carried out in Brussels today. I hope this will at least serve as a much-needed wake-up call to end law enforcement and intelligence austerity and to tackle the conflict in Syria, leading to the destruction of IS.

Turned out he had nothing to do with it. A heavely armed SWAT team arrested a man who they had in their vission for a while. He came back from Belguim at the worst time possible for him. This lead to his arrest.

ISIS happend, its truely horrifying. I can almost say for sure that The Netherlands will be next on the list. Im getting the feeling they are just walking down the list. The Brussel attacks could have been even worse if SWAT didnt raid that apartment stacked with AKs.

how do you know for sure its Muslims in ISIS? just because the media says it?

Yes, exactly. I have no reason to think otherwise, this isn't a conspiracy theory.

media is just trying to make Muslims look bad, when you hear the word terrorists they want you to think of muslims.

That's my country at the moment  With our police using their shift time to block the motorway whilst driving at 40mph to protest, however, I guess it's no surreal possibility.

You understand the message you quoted from me, literally said that I hope people don't take it out on Muslims but rather the Terrorists who use the Quran as a reason to orchestrate these attacks. Also the fact, the media always re-enforce the fact during broadcasts that Muslims are not Terrorists, but instead it's the Islamic State Militants.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

No, that's certainly not the case. Daesh are terrorist radicals, I for one, do not blame the muslim religion, I blame the horrible people who are brainwashing others to commit murder for their cause using the name of Allah as a guise.

Having said that, let's keep this particular topic on to the Brussels attack. I'd be happy to talk over PM or if you like, in another thread about this.

Uhh... what? Only idiots believe Muslims are terrorists, and I don't know of a single media source that's supporting that idea.

What utter rubbish. The media actually actively reinforces their stance that muslims should not be generalised as terrorists.

The fact that this particular terrorism group calls itself Islamic State and hides behind that religion is their own choice which the media cannot be blamed for in the slightest.

That's true. The I know some muslims that I know are ashamed of what's all happening. They feel if they have to explain that there not one off them. And that they have nothing to do with those idiots. And that's horrible. But it's coming closer. As neighbor of Belgium.
