Keyboard Not Working In GTA 5

Featured Replies

So to set the scene on Thursday night I finished playing LSPDFR, shut down my PC (it did an update before shutting down), I came back on Friday, started up LSPDFR and I couldn't move? I then tried going into the pause menu but my Esc button wasn't working either. So to keep it simple my keyboard isn't working other than the F1,2,3,4...12 buttons. If I plug in a controller though I can move with that. I have tried using a completely new copy of the GTA 5 folder but that didn't work, I've tried verifying the game cache, I've tried re-installing DirectX but still nothing. The keyboard works in other games also so it's just GTA 5. If anyone has any ideas I'd love to hear them, any help is appreciated! Thanks.

Only created an account to say I've got the exact same problem. I've tried searching online and nothing.. Some people are saying it's the antivirus anti keylogging, but i'm with Norton and it doesn't have any anti-keylogging features. I've tried re-installing the keyboard drivers, but yet nothing. Keyboard works fine in other games, and the mouse also works. Can also play with a controller. Could it be a faulty update?

I don't know if it's something to do with the update for windows that I got? But then surely loads of other people would have the same issue?

i do remember my windows updating just before the issue started happening. I don't know why it'd only affect GTA.

I have no clue either.

I'm in a very similar situation as reported.

I did remember a Windows update shortly before the issue started happening.

I've been able to sometimes get the keyboard to work again by remove the device from the system, reinstalling, and launching the game.

I believe the windows update did something to the USB drivers because I also get a few USB error messages every now and then, which never happened before the update.

I'm on Windows 10 64-bit and use a corsair k65 keyboard.

windows 10 update broke it so for now how i got it to work mean while only bad thing is you have to do every time you load the game unplug your controller and load gta5,LSPDFR,ragehook and then connect it back and it will work unfortunately you have to do it every time you wanna play but i hope soon they fix it.

I just had this happen on my Win 10 machine as well. After I played for about 10 minutes all of the players in the session were getting blown up by a hacker. As I was typing a chat I was blown up again. When I spawned again the keyboard did not work at all except F keys.

Restarted game, PC, Steam, and finally reinstalled game. Still no keyboard. It works perfectly in any dialogs, settings, etc EXCEPT keyboard mapping, where it once again does not respond.

I don't use the mod but would love to get a solution if anyone here finds one.

Hi, I've also made an account because this was the only place I could find anyone with the same problem!! I'm also running Windows 10 and it updated on Friday and ever since my keyboard has stopped working in GTA V if I plug my xbox 1 controller in. The keyboard still works if I don't use the controller, so my issue is similar to this one but not quite the same. I don't use mods but would really appreciate it if anybody has an answer for this!

Same problem, my windows updated and now nothing. My keyboard lights turn off every time the game loads.

Ok, i unplugged my controller loaded GTA tried to see if the keyboard would work, and it did. Plugged my controller back in and now both of them work. However I dont know if I will have to do this every time.

Also created account to post to this.

Play vanilla GTA. Windows 10 64 bit. After recent windows update issue began. Normally play with xbox one controller and mouse/keyboard. Switch between each depending on what is going on in game.

If the controller is plugged in none of the main keys on the keyboard work. F keys and home/end/pgup/pgdown work. escape and letters do not work. If the controller is unplugged the keyboard begins to work.
Related issue. If the game is launched with controller plugged in alt+tab out of the game causes GTA to crash.

Can not find any other postings of this issue anywhere else.

edit: Launching GTA with controller unplugged, then plugging in after game launch resolved issue.

I have the same issue with the keyboard not working except the F buttons (F1, F2, F3)  I also am getting extreme lag, the game wont go over 30 fps.  I never changed the settings and I jumped on to play one day and I couldn't get over 30 fps and I have a computer more than capable of playing it on ultra.

Yes, its all to do with the Windows update KB3140743 - it included a new driver set for USB input devices.  It has completely screwed up GTA5 controller/keyboard interactions to the point of Online play and gameplay recording just does not work (because I need to press certain keys to type in-game text, and to also start/stop ShadowPlay recording).

Its a nightmare, but I've only found it affecting GTA5 so far, although I did notice odd USB device issues in Elite:Dangerous too.  Going to investigate further tonight.

I've just registered to +1 to this. Hoping for a permanent solution here.

This update may also explain an issue I'm having whereby my keyboard's scroll lock light is constantly flashing when set to 1ms polling (which it had never done before yesterday- same time I noticed the GTA issue). I'm also experiencing the crash on alt-tab (well more aptly the crash when returning to the game from another application- even with the game set to borderless window and not pausing on focus loss).

Will have a play around with disconnecting my xinput controller later on this evening.

Try disabling "Pause on Focus". This is what helped me :) It also solves the problem if you click out of the GTA V window and it crashes.

For those who still have this Problem and looking for a possible Solution:

I had the same Problems a few Times, Mouse and Keyboard works fine in the Menu but not in the Game....i figuerd out, that it always happens when i use the Quicksave Option in the Smartphone.

So i loaded an older Savegame and everything works fine again.

Maybe this helps you too...
