New PC - Show off your rig.

Featured Replies

After many years of purchasing brand computers, and tacking on better parts, I finally invested in building my own system from scratch. I've posted specs, as well as pictures below. Please let me know what you think of my build (constructive criticism open) -- and don't be afraid to show off your own rig! I want to see what powers our community.

Specifications:

  • Processor: Intel i5-6500 Skylake (Quad Core @ 3.2 GHz)
  • RAM: PNY Anarchy - 16 GB (2x8, DDR4)
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte H170M-DH3 (Ultra Durable)
  • Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 (4GB DDR5)
  • Power: Corsair 750W Gold PSU
  • Case: Thermaltake N21 (Mid-ATX)
  • Storage: Seagate Barracuda (1TB @ 7200 RPM)

Claims to Fame:

  • 8x USB 3.0 ports, 2x USB-C ports
  • Ultra-fast Data Transfer
  • Purple Accent LED Corsair Fans (brightness adjusts based on system heat)
  • Runs roughly everything at 60 FPS on Ultra

@Jeepserver very nice and congrats on the build!

Really like the purple fans, cool feature having the brightness change depending on system temp. What are you doing to cool the CPU? Stock cooler?

Also just out of curisioty (can't quite tell from the pictures) are you running HDMI or DisplayPort?

Thanks! I'm running HDMI right now, but the 970 does have Display Port options. As for right now, I have the stock cooler in. I have a CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO that I am intent on putting in. I wanted to see how effective it was, so I figured I would run the stock for a week, then compare how cool the new fan runs.

Ah, great choice - you really can't go wrong with the 212. I used one in my previous rig for 4+ years, didn't fail me once. I used it in a push-pull configuration with corsair SP fans, definitely kept my ( at the time AMD FX8120 ) cool.

You'll 100% be running your i5 at lower temps with the 212, obviously the benefits of this being you could look into oc'ing your CPU in the future.
