The Division

PLOT

A smallpox pandemic spreads on Black Friday (transmitted by a virus planted onto banknotes), and sweeps through cities across the U.S. The United States Government collapses in five days; basic services fail and without access to food or water, the country quickly descends into chaos.[9]

The player is part of the Strategic Homeland Division (SHD), or "The Division" for short—a classified stay-behind force of self-supported tactical agents. Leading seemingly ordinary lives, SHD agents are trained to operate independently of command when all else fails. This group is established to combat the threat brought about by the outbreak and are given direct authority by the President of the United States to do whatever it takes to prevent the fall of society and piece the city back together. The player will encounter remnants of the New York City Police, Fire, and Emergency Responders and the New York National Guard now known as the JTF (Joint Task Force) who will help the player throughout the game. Enemies like the Rikers (Formerly prisoners of Rikers Island), bandits known as Rioters, The Cleaners who are primarily former New York City Sanitation Workers hellbent on purging the disease, and The Last Man Battalion, a secretive rogue military unit who are trying to restore order in more lethal manners. Throughout the game, the agents will find themselves caught in a worldwide conspiracy and will be forced to combat both the threats of the virus as well as those who unleashed it

GAMEPLAY

The Division takes place in mid-crisis Manhattan, an open world with destructive environments that are free for players to explore. The player's mission is to restore order by investigating the source of a virus. Players have to team up with other Division agents as they progress. The game's core mechanics are similar to other third-person-shooters, in which player character can carry three weapons, and explosives like sticky bombs and smart mines to fight against enemies.[3] Players may take cover behind objects during firefights to avoid taking damage from enemies, and to give them a tactical advantage when attacking. As the game is set in a third-person perspective, the character model is visible.[4]

As players progress, they earn experience points and currency. They can use these points to customize their character's appearance, upgrade weapons and gear, and learn new talents and skills. Players have to complete missions to learn active talents such as the ability to throw healing grenades, deploy automated gun turret or use radar pulse, which can tag enemies.[5] The game features a dynamic, time based weather system which may bring benefits or disadvantages to players. For instance, storms can hinder player's visibility and make aiming difficult. The game also features a day-night cycle which will change the behaviors of enemies in the game.[6]

The Dark Zone is the player-versus-player competitive multiplayer mode featured in The Division, where a lot of high-end weapons are left behind when the military retreats in the game. It is separated from the main campaign and has its own progression system. Players discover valuable items inside a Dark Zone. However, these items, known as "contaminated loot", can be taken by other players in the zone, and will not be permanently attached to the player's character unless they are extracted from the zone through a helicopter.[7] Players can be accompanied by several co-operative partners and other neutral, player-controlled agents. These people, however, can turn against the player at any moment, going rogue. Players' level and ranking may drop if they die too often in the zone.[5]

The beta has been and gone and release day grows ever closer, Intertested in hearing others opinions on this game which has been in development since 2013 I think.

Did you play the beta? Any thoughts?

I personally thought it was absolutely fantastic, it's nice to finally have a game that is attempting new things (re: post apocalyptic city, no zombies, some weaponized virus, rpg etc.) and is seemingly doing so quite well.

Whilst the game has been toned down on all platforms to meet console requirements, it still looks okay although not as good as it did at E3.

Processor: Intel i5-6600 @ 3.30GHz

GPU: MSI ARMOR GeForce GTX 1080 OC

Ram: 16GB Skylake

I don't like it at all to be honest, at least not the way I experienced it. In videos I've seen that most of the time you can't even see the enemy but you shoot slightly below the health bar to hit your enemy. Also shooting at all seems to be very weird. Even with an assault rifle/carbine such as the Scar-H/L you had to go very close to your enemy (especially if its a player) to hit at all as accuracy is horrible, even when firing bursts.
Though I didn't really experience this myself as the closed beta crashed for me, even after verifying the game files via Uplay and even reinstalling it. Sometimes there was a blackscreen that didn't even allow me to quit the game using Alt+F4, Ctrl+Alt+Del, Alt+Tab, etc so I had to restart my PC using the restart button on it. (A friend with a kickass PC had huge issues too. Visual bugs, terrible FPS even on low settings, etc.) After this mess I didn't take advantage of the open beta either (one reason is that I don't like PVP a lot anyway and the repetitive healthbar shooting was a huge annoyance too).

However, I really do like the plot. Too bad the way it's made really doesn't satisfy me. I hope there will be a similar game, just different.

As I said, I didn't get to play this myself so correct me if something's wrong or got changed after the closed beta. I don't want to talk bad about things that aren't even the case (anymore). That's just the way I experienced things (if you could even call it "experience").

I cant wait for it to release. I played the alpha and closed beta on xbox one and really liked it. Recently i built my first gaming pc, and played the open beta. i had no issues at all and the game ran smooth for me. Luckly for me, my 980ti included a free copy of the game. I'm very excited for the release

if anyone wants to play, my steam name is evojoe331

That's all I need to know.

Well, I signed up for the closed beta and it appeared in my Uplay library. Nothing I could've done I guess.

Missed the beta, started downloading it the final day and it finished 1 hour after the end. But got a free copy with a new bit of hardware.

Based on Ubi's last TC title, Siege, and videos, I doubt I'll be disappointed by anything other than their DLC/season pass pricing and my internet connection.

You are using the WRONG right theme!
