The legality of the GTA IV:San Andreas

Well, it's actually 100% copyright violation.
The download includes copyrighted Rockstar models which have been modified to suit the new RAGE engine of GTA IV.
Hell, even the modification of the textures alone is grey-area, never mind the conversion of GTA SA's original models/textures to a separate game.

It seems to have been executed in this way so the development team don't have to reveal the methods they've used to convert them, and instead offer an essentially pirate download to users instead of a conversion tool (to prove the user owns GTA SA and to do the legal conversion).

Just thought I'd post this to let you all know it's essentially a pirate download which will never be supported by the LCPDFR development team.

hmmm i didn't know that, good thing i don't use those rage engine's, weird thing though, i've seen post's on the internet stating that it was R* themselves that designed RAGE, which i was extremely confused about seeing as they have GTAV coming out very soon

He's not talking about RAGE; that's the game engine behind GTA IV. He's talking about a mod that puts GTA SA content in IV, but does not make sure you own SA first.

EDIT: What about conversion of individual models from games like Driver:SF? Is that also illegal?

No, this is all dumb.. who cares. What is really stupid is how people make car models .... using the files rock* created.. or from other games... and say they copyrighted it... ha! yah okay buddy.

Wouldn't the same apply to me using Sam's Police Buffalo? I don't own EFLC for the PC, but that appears to be where he took the model from. Granted, the vanilla FBI car is the same...

I agree entirely with how people claim to copyright models which are derivatives of copyrighted models. Although, it seems the only way some people will contribute.

The issue isn't really model edits, the issue is taking the content of one game and entirely cloning all the content to another game.

Common sense applies here. It's all the same just done on IV's engine. :P

Yeah, I also heard they're working on IV: Vice City. It's basically downloading a game you have to buy. Which is pirated, basically. So, the people that use the mod are basically getting a stolen/pirated copy of SA. Good job for finding this out Jay.

Sorry Jay, messed up on the quote, so it doesn't look like it's yours.

you make a good point, people probably say it's copyrighted so people won't try and steal what they made and everybody know's copyright infringement is MAJOR fines, doesn't make any sense, but i don't blame modeler's at all, basically modeler's are copyrighting what's already copyrighted :P Ford for example
