Any advice on missing a college essay?

Featured Replies

So i missed an essay. Its worth 50 points for a piece of shit college transitioning class. i dont think its a big deal. there are a shit ton of assignments this semester so grade will flush out. i have 120 out of 120 in gradebook right now so ill have a 67% when shit goes in. kinda disappointed in my self. dont want to start this shit i did in high school in college. it was due 3 mins ago and was supposed to be 6 long paragraphs about some bull shit. im not concerned but should i be? Im not going to fuck up anymore.

May I ask what was the topic of your essay? Also, I'm not in college yet, but missing an essay is only a big deal if it affects you in the long run (ie. Damaging your semester grade).

You should at least try, it's better turning something in then nothing. Even if it's late.

late work isnt accepted for class even with really good excuse like family tragedy or cancer diagnosis.

it was about transitioning to college and bs like that. i can give you the rubric if you want. it was 50 points. i turned in a hw that was worth 90 so it shouldnt be that bad.

Question: is this a class you are taking as a freshman in college or a senior in high school? Judging by your avatar, I'm assuming a freshman in college?

Ah, I see. Getting a 0 on an assignment can pretty much tank your grade...though I'm pretty sure you know that, especially in college when there are fewer overall assignments when compared to high school. If a sob story won't work, get the assignment done and just come clean with your professor and admitting fault, IMO. If you're just gonna get a 0 regardless, might as well try the honest and apologetic approach. Maybe throw in the whole, "I'm new to college" thing too.

Just a side note, however. Once you start off with a low GPA as a freshman in college, it's going to be hard to bring it up...I learned the hard way from personal experience. Don't listen to people who say, "You have 3 years to bring your GPA up!" Most likely, that won't happen. Work hard now so you don't have to worry about it later. Classes will get progressively harder and your GPA will get progressively lower. I started off nursing school with a 3.4 GPA, thinking I'll be able to bring it up. I ended up graduating with a 3.34. Similar situation with my girlfriend, except she started off with a 4.0 and it went down to a 3.7. Same scenario with all my other friends...their GPAs all progressively got worse.

Bottom line is: yes, you should be worried. If you end up getting a 0, accept it and learn from it, don't let it happen again. Remember, freshman year is going to be your easiest year of college. If you piss it away and screw it up, there is a good chance that you will never recover from it.

Beg for forgiveness I guess. Some teachers may have an extra credit assignment for your semester, but I have no idea. College is something you have to pay for, so you really need to not miss stuff if you can avoid it. That being said; you can always re-take the course, but it's at your own cost. Not saying I've never screwed up before, but I can't really afford to repeat classes.
