NYPD Plain clothes costume play?

Featured Replies

I want to do a costume play of nypd plain clothes guys; like Mac Llewellyn Talyor in CSI NY.

So my goods to do that is...(so far)

KSC P226

Safailand 6280 Right hand

Motorola XTS 5000

Replica NYPD Detective/Lieutenent Badge w/ belt clip

Is that all right? BTW, is KSC P226 Good?

Uh, well.. it's probably not a good idea to cosplay a detective (especially one based on a RL department) However if you straight up say it's for cosplay, try and find a fake badge (not a replica because well. that could lead to problems).

As a replacement badge you could get a NYPD detective badge (specifically designed for cosplay) and instead of a shield number it has CSI instead.

EDIT: http://www.my-badges.com/thumbnail.php?pic=uplimg/img_100038_41856e54d292d1a3decac59905f7e5c7.jpg&w=500&sq=Y&b=Y - link to the badge i mentioned above.

Like others have said though, only do it at events, costume parties etc.. don't do it in public, even if it does look good. I own a replica CSI vest like the one they wear out in the field on CSI: Las Vegas but i never wear it apart from parties and what not (even though i live in Australia, it does look suspicious and as it looks real.. people may think you're a real officer even though the vest clearly says LVPD).

Just make your costume look real.. but also fake enough people know it's fake, people wear uniforms all the time to comic-con for fake departments (like RPD from Resident Evil for example). Theres nothing wrong with wearing a uniform/badge to an event but when it's in public/part of general life that's when there is a problem. However, for safe measures i'd suggest going to your local police station and asking about it before doing anything. because they might consider owning a badge illegal (even if it's a fake)

For my hobby&fun

Did you actually spend hundreds of dollars on this stuff? I mean, I can understand the collecting of badges and what not. I mingle in that myself a bit, but spending big bucks on an outfit to walk around your house in just to feel like a cop? I don't see the point in that.

If it's for fun then it's better spending the money elsewhere.. if you're not using it for parties/events then there is no point in buying it. there was a topic a few months ago when a user bought a NYPD detective badge and thought it was a good idea to wear it in public.. it didn't end well, if he didn't deal with a nice cop he would've been arrested instead the cop just took his badge away.

Why? I'm not American and I don't live in USA..

Then why do you have United States set as location?

It's probably besides the point, but going outside in a cop uniform in any country is generally a bad idea. Inside, or at a closed area with likeminded people, sure, but not public streets.

Invenio, Investigatio, Imperium

Find another hobby, kid, because once you become an adult you will face palm at this. The Radio starts out with a base price around $2,500 for a model 3. Probably something like $1,250 for a model 1. This will get you a conventional analog radio, no trunking or digital operation. Digital trunking will run approximately $1,500 and other features ( 2600 baud interoperability, OTAR, DES-OFB encryption, etc.) vary in price, but are less than digital trunking. I don't have a pricebook breakdown of all features in front of me, but if you want a XTS5000, it will get about $4,000 out of you. It's not worth it for a play. You're looking at $ 5,000 for everything you want above. Just ridiculous.

At any rate, it is a very expensive proposition to purchase an XTS-5000 from motorola.
