Go to your profile. Click on Profile Feed tab. Update your status.

Well that is the only way to do it, type in the box then click Update Status. There was no need to give him negative rep when he actually gave you the correct answer.

See at the top left of the page where there is your avatar and your name. click the arrow next to it and there is a box that says "What's on your mind?". type your new status there and click "update".
