So my nVIDIA desktop notifier demanded an update to the driver 296.10 and I had to check on the official website for the descriptions.I rarely update my GPU drivers as I learnt it from Zotac:

I don't know if the fix was aimed at GTA IV, but a few games use the same engine for rendering and physics, so the FPS increase in GTA IV is probably a by-product.

Well, I really hope they're better than the previous WHQL version, 'cause it made Battlefield 3 lag at some point using my GTX 580 with Ultra settings, which forced me to switch back to version 285.62 If anyone plays BF3 around here, it'd be nice to tell me if he's having any issues with the game using these new drivers.

BF3 seems fine maxed out except for the FSAA setting (since that chews up and spits out your FPS no matter the game), I'm running a GTX 570.

EDIT 2: @Unr3al: Man,there was this another update released previously which was specially optimized for BF3.You might find it better than this one,since this one is optimized more for MW3.I dunno about the previous one as I'm a CoD loyal.

They should have left the rest of the code in. I doubt nVidia is stupid enough to say "Oh, let's just shove this Battlefield 3 code out of the way to better optimize Modern Warfare 3. More people play that game anyway." But I know that the trend with any computer program is that when a new feature is added, it often breaks ones that were in there previously. :P

Since GTA IV uses RAGE engine, which only very few games, if not only GTA IV uses, that's probably not it.

With that said, since poster said he rarely updates his drivers, and the ones he used was probably pretty outdated, so I think that's the reason OP got such an improvement. I see no improvement with my GTX580.

Well,my last drivers were 280.26 since I was forced to install them after getting my copy of NFS:TR.

Its kinda weird that I saw a boost in my fps for the first time after installing the drivers but after that whenever I started the game,I was never able to achieve that.

I was like "F**k!! But it was..." Never mind.I think nVIDIA just put a little one-time surprise in the driver pack.SH!T
