While this may seem silly to some, I'm actually very curious about this.

According to this article, smelling farts exposes you to hydrogen sulfide. This apparently helps bacteria break down food, and can prevent mitochondrial damage. In the long run, according to this article, smelling someones fart can prevent disease and cancer. According to this article, wafting the odor of poop in a toilet is also extremely healthy. I'm not a science type of person, so I don't have a clue what any of this means, but I'll leave the link and post the first paragraph below.

The next time someone at your office lets out a "silent but deadly" emission, maybe you should thank them. Anew study at the University of Exeter in England suggests that exposure to hydrogen sulfide — a.k.a. what your body produces as bacteria breaks down food, causing gas — could prevent mitochondria damage. Yep, the implication is what you're thinking: People are taking the research to mean that smelling farts could prevent disease and even cancer.

Do you think that this has truth to it, or is it complete bull shit?

Dont farts also contain Methane, a gas that contributes to global warming and is also toxic?

I've heard of this, but again, I have no clue. This is why I posted this topic. I know there are a few science people on here and I was wondering if they knew anything about this.

I Don't have many qualifications in science (other than my compulsory GSCE BTEC from High school), however I do have an interest in the subject. On topic I've included some information from the UK government website that states health risks and how to deal with incidents involving this chemical.

Link - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/hydrogen-sulphide-properties-incident-management-and-toxicology

Fire - Very flammable - Reacts with metals, metal oxides and strong oxidising agents, Heating may cause violent combustion, Emits toxic fumes of sulphur oxides when heated to decomposition.

Health - Toxic by inhalation , Very toxic, Inhalation of high concentrations may lead to collapse, inability to breathe and death within minutes, Following single or repeated exposure to high concentrations a range of effects on the nervous and cardiovascular system may occur, Skin exposure causes skin discolouration, pain, itching, skin redness and local frostbite if exposed to liquefied hydrogen sulphide gas, Eye effects may be delayed and include irritation, inflammation, tearing, sensitivity to light and conjunctivitis.

Environment - Dangerous for the environment.

Although as your article states, the chemical is harmful in large doses. But if its as dangerous as the information above says it is, can it really be safe in small doses.

Then it's not expected

Exactly. If you expect the unexpected, then you'll never be victim of something unexpected and you'll always be expected of something unexpected. Then you're good to go! ;)

I read somewhere about a new study that putting your head into a toilet bowl and smelling shit sitting in the toilet is actually healthy as well.
