Absolutely awful. I hope they arrest whoever did it and prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.

The deaths of Officers Ramos and Liu hit home here in New York City. We care about our cops here, you felt it on the streets after they were killed. I hope this officer is able to pull through,

According to the Links the officers were led away from the suspect thanks to a false tip, so it looks like the gunman is still running around

and yet countless civilians have been murdered by the police and I don't see anyone posting about those citizens and they can get away with it and not be charged to the fullest of the law

That's because countless civilians have NOT been murdered by the police.

A police officer killing someone does not automatically equate to murder. Take a law class. Or at least read a state's statutes regarding the use of deadly force by citizens, and the use of force by peace officers.

No one's posting about them? Last time I checked, a majority of the debates here have been about the police "murdering" people. The problem isn't that nothing is being done about the acts of the police, it's that nothing is being done about the acts against the police. Will there be riots across the nation, or even in NYC because this man (yes, believe it or not, cops are people too) was shot for no reason? No. Will there be people demanding action be taken against the criminals that keep killing police officers? No.

Show some respect.

Actually police shootings are ruled homicides, if the shooting is found unjustified the officer can be charged with murder.

I'm taking a break from debating because its clear my opinions are unpopular and I'm not convincing anyone, so this isn't the time or place to start one. I just wanted to clear that up.

I think the point he was trying to make is that he thinks more people are killed by police in unjustified shootings than police are killed by people, which could very well be true but again, not the time or place.

I know that officer involved shootings are ruled as a homicide; I have first hand training and experience. But "homicide" does not equal "murder".

If an officer is involved in an unjustified use of force, they should be charged just like any citizen would be, and they frequently are. That doesn't make headline news, even though it happens all the time. But many people don't seem to understand the legal ground that constitutes justification nor do they understand that the use of force statutes apply to all people, civilians and police officers alike.

This thread is about a police officer and his partner who were attacked in an apparent ambush and their attacker's attempt to murder them. Opening fire on two police officers is attempted murder, and it is wrong, no matter what.

I agree with you 100%, I was just trying to clear everything up. Don't shoot the messenger lol.

I won't shoot anyone, except in accordance with my state's statutes whereby I reasonably believe someone is, or is intending to pose, a threat of deadly force or is attempting to commit aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, aggravated sexual assault, robbery, or aggravated robbery.

Then I'll shoot center mass repeatedly until the threat is stopped.

Amen.

Really saddened to hear about this. New York might be a huge city, but there's still a "cop on the corner" feel here. You really feel it when a cop gets killed, just like when an unarmed suspect is killed by police. Yea, there might not be hundreds of thousands of people protesting but that's how the world works.

I remember a friend I have that lives in a not-so-good neighborhood telling me about seeing "RIP Ramos and Liu" gratified on a few different places. The big apple has a big heart, and this always hurts.

As a former N.Y.C. Police I agree the people of N.Y. do care although they don't show it often they do when it counts and nobody in N.Y. likes to see a police officer killed they feel our pain along with us.

Rest Rest in peace my brother your watch is over but others shall pick up and finish the job for you
