Mountain Monsters - Destination America

Featured Replies

I found this gem of a show last week while flipping through channels. It's about a bunch of stereotypical hillbillies who search for creatures like Bigfoot or the Hellhound in different parts of the south eastern United States. I get some cheap laughs out of the over the top southerners. "Wild Bill", supposedly a former U.S. Marine is by far my favorite. I skipped to a part where he goes nuts (typical). The rest of the episodes aren't too bad either. Not exactly a documentary or anything, but the show does it's job of getting me to sit down and watch.

Watch (skipped to Wild Bill acting like an idiot):

"Wild Bill" looks like one of those monsters in that thumbnail

I take it most of the show is just them yelling and acting like idiots and concluding with "maybe next time we will find THUH HEYELL HOWND!"

Sorta, yeah. The shows are on YouTube, give them a watch if you're bored. They have the typical night cam scary footage, and each person they visit who reports a sighting gives them a blurry trail cam or cell phone camera picture. They do have thermal imaging for a change, and sometimes find a few things that according to internet legend; match up with signs of ___(insert random monster)___. Their traps almost never work. I still find it entertaining, though. The southern accents and lame jokes in this show would make almost any American blush from embarrassment. It's almost like a caricature of how the rest of the world views us. I've lived in America all my life and I can't always tell what these people saying. The show sometimes uses subtitles despite the people in the show speaking English.

Sorry, I just had to post this....

I don't know how these shows honestly gain any traction. Ghosts, monsters, aliens etc. It's all the same odd camera work with over acting and shitty jump scares. I just don't get it....

The producers know the southern-ness is over the top and they ensure to get plenty of it in for laughs. Although real people like that do exist and therefore probably don't get the jokes, they just find Bigfoot interesting. That being said, Sasquatch is a controversial subject since more credible people are starting to investigate now like Jeff Meldrum PHD or "Survivorman" Les Stroud. Stroud's show approaches the subject from a more grown up, realistic point of view, but I'm on the fence. I hike in my spare time and I agree that "you have to be out there to get it" and anybody who says "they wouldn't have enough food" has never heard of a bear. But I dunno. It's going to take getting a live body to convince people.
