CPU Cooling fan replacement

Featured Replies

Greetings fellow Officers! I was just wondering, and since I'm brand new to the whole PC world my CPU fan is making a weird noise and it just started yesterday sort of sounds like a lawn mower going through my room but obviously a lot more quiet than an actual lawn mower. (Cooling Master CPU Fan) Do I have to get a certain Fan for my motherboard or can I just get any fan and put it on there?

Motherboard: MSI 760GM-P34FX

Most CPU fans work with both Intel and AMD motherboards. You would have to follow closely the instructions, but first read the specs on the manufacture website to make sure it will work with your type of CPU. I recommend to look up your motherboard on PCPartPicker and choose a CPU cooler from it. Not sure what CPU cooler you are currently using, but the most popular one is the CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Evo. Just make sure it can fit on your case. You could also go for a CPU water cooler like the Corsair H55 which costs around $50. depending where you buy it.

I just ordered the Hyper 212 Evo today for my PC.

I'm looking for a new cooling system as well.  Are the liquid cooling systems any good?

I have about 7-fans now, but my CPU runs at 110+ degrees (F), MB at 100-degrees and GPU hits 120-degrees (F) when gaming.  I'd like to keep things under 100-degrees if possible.

Is liquid cooling the way to go or just stick better fans...like the one with the vent tubes that plug into the GPU and MoBo (didn't get the name, saw it at MicroCenter when waiting for some RAM)?

Thanks,

@DrDetroit That kind of temperature converted to Celsius is kinda good.  On idle, 30C/40C (80F/104F) is the norm, under load is 60C/70C (140F/158F). But even then, for you a water cooler would work to reduce it a bit. Same as for Pavement, a H55 is good, but if you are gonna overclock, maybe get a H80i or even a H100i. Read reviews around the web.
