Never had one although if you were to have a heart attack you would have felt like you are out of breath and it would be hard to catch your breath. You would start to feel very slow and yes pain also. I'm no expert lol. I would be god damn scared if I encountered one :/

i would think so too its a pincky stabby pain and its near my peck and if i poke it it hurts bad. i think what scared me the most was my high heart rate mixed with that from shoveling which scared me to death. but im alright from what it seems just a stupid sharp stabby burning of sore.

It might be either a muscle you pulled, or maybe a cracked rib. If the pain is not gone in a few days, you should make it checked by a doctor.

i doubt its a rib its right in the meaty part under the peck. But i will keep an eye on it. im always going to the doctor for something but im certain its just a muscle beacsue i havent been working out 8 inches  of snow and a drive way isnt a way to start out.

Have you heard of Angina? (I know...it sounds like something else, but I'm trying to be serious)

Basically from my very limited knowledge read as: NOT A DOCTOR angina is this: Intense pain that manifests itself in the chest area that can very closely resemble heart attack pain. It's usually brought on by stress, and that can also be translated into physical exertion. So I'd ask a real doctor about that, as sometimes it's a condition that needs to be treated with regular medication.

EDIT: Found an article on wikipedia about it. I know it's janky because it's wikipedia, but should give you an idea of what I'm trying to explain.

I would definitely consider it, especially because further down in the article it said coldness even cold meals and physical exertion are the main contributing factors. So if you were outside in the cold, shoveling snow, (which is a very difficult job) you'd match most of that.

With a history of heart complications in your family, I'd definitely recommend you talk to a doctor.

has anyone ever gotten one. i felt like i had one today. i guess im ok though i have tender muscle chest pain on my left side from snow shoveling.

A real heart attack (Mostly common is Myocardial Infarction or Cardiac Arrest) would usually feel like a very dull, achy persistent pain, commonly refereed as a "ton of bricks sitting on my chest" with the pain region being from 1-10 (10 being worst pain ever) in the higher upper portions around 7-10 (this type of pain usually caused by a heart rhythm known as Ventricular Fibrillation). A sharp, chest grabbing pain is what you usually see in the movies and while it does happen, you more often see a very bad palpitating pain in the upper left region with most common diaperesis (sweating profusely) and some arm numbness, difficulty breathing, and nausea. Very sharp chest pains can be a sign of a Heart issue (Such as you having an un-normal amount of Pre-Ventricular Contractions or other heart pumping related issues) or even the heart being in a un-safe rhythm such as Ventricular Tachycardia (Heart pumping so fast it's not pumping enough blood, thus leading to Cardiac Arrest), however most common is a dull achy chest pain with un-conciousness coming afterwards (due to heart not pumping in a normal rhythm and thus, not pumping blood adequately).

It's easy to say what you experienced most likely wasn't a Heart Attack or anything really sort of heart related, other wise the rhythm that you'd be in a heart attack situation would lead to death shortly after a period of time. As a few others stated here, you most likely pulled a muscle, combined with a strenious activity causing your heart to race and make you feel as if you were having a heart attack. Not to mention I'm going to take a wild guess and say you're probably young and younger patients don't have Heart Attacks as regularly as older patients (Heart Attacks in younger patients are usually due to a case of Respiratory Arrest).

When you have a real Heart Attack, you'll know it. When that time ever comes (I hope it never does for your case) and you feel like something is really going to happen to you, please don't hesitate to call 911 or get some ones attention. It could be the real thing and if it is not it could be a symptom of another major issue.

Here is a good article about how shoveling snow actually has been linked to an increase of Heart Attacks: http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/Affiliate/Shoveling-Snow-Health-Hazards_UCM_426562_Article.jsp

-Snip to save space-

As titled in the article on wikipedia, the correct term would be Angina Pectoris. In medical terminology Angina translates to -Pain-, and pectoris is referring to the upper chest region. So knowing this when you hear Angina Pectoris, you are expecting upper chest pain which could possibly be caused by a Heart related issue.

TL;DR: What you experienced most likely wasn't a heart attack, how do I know this? You're still alive silly.  :D

Source of info: Fire Fighter, didn't mean to make the explanation so long but I love heart related medical things and get me talking about it and I could go on and on... :D

thank you :D yeah it hurts now alot but damn shovel looks like i might be off the hook from shoveling for a while i cant ever seem to do anything right lol thank you though :) i thought a few times of going to the emergency room and urgent care but it took me a while to calm down and to relaize what it was it was scary though dont get me wrong. ive had alot of concussions too but always be careful with everything you do

Yes I did have a heart attack last February.  As a matter of fact I remember posting in a topic about the cold of that winter because I wanted to get people to know how to help keep their pipes from freezing.  I also pointed out that I was working for a water department and the hell these guys go through.

First and foremost.  Do not listen to anyone else about the possibility of having a heart attack except for a Doctor.  All you're going to get from other people is guesses and copy-N-paste articles.  If you feel you may have had a heart attack then go to the damn doctor, I can't stress that enough.  Everyone's experience is different so don't take shows and articles as fact, go to the doctor.  I will now tell you what I experienced but remember if you suspect you may have had a heart attack, go to the fucking doctor.

Last Feb I was taken off work because of problems with pain in my neck and my arms and hands not working correctly. I walk everywhere I don't even own a car anymore when I started working at the water department because it was only a mile away from home, so I gave it to someone that could use it instead of letting it sit and rot away.  I was a pretty active guy especially when I packed up my camera equipment and headed out on a hike and believe me that shit gets heavy the more you buy lol.  Not only that but my job was extremely physical and I can't tell you how many stairs I ran up and down during my shift and I do mean running.

I was at home and started getting an uncomfortable feeling in my arms ( both ) and neck, the back of it to be more specific.  Soon my arms and hands would not function, the pain in my neck increase tenfold and the back of my head was pounding along with my back teeth.  I couldn't close my mouth and was salivating with unbearable pain.  At this time I was still standing and trying to get to my phone but ended up on the floor just two feet from it.  It doesn't matter because without the use of my hands/fingers it would have been impossible to call out.  As I lay there I thought about how I joked with everyone that they wouldn't know if I was dead until a week later and the smell got to the neighbors.  I actually thought it was quite funny, no bullshit, that this may actually come true.  I couldn't do anything except try to relax but the pain was the worst I ever felt, well until they tried to fix me.  I thought I was going to die so I did my best to go to sleep and that is exactly what I did, go to sleep.  I found out two months later that I had a heart attack and damage was done to the heart.  I have two 100% blocked arteries and one 80% blocked.  They tried to fix me but ended up puncturing my artery which almost killed me because the sack around my heart ended up filling with blood.  That and the removal of the blood and chest tube actually felt worse than the heart attack.  I will tell you that when you lose blood pressure it is the most relaxing and peaceful feeling in the world.  I could hear them working on my but I honestly didn't care and knew that I had to put my trust into them to do their job, so I blocked them out and enjoyed the peace.  I knew that if I was going to die at that moment I wanted to feel that peace, it was a great feeling. Oh I did ask how I could have prevented this from happening because I have always been very active and fit.  I was told that I couldn't have prevented it, they actually said that genetics plays the part in this for me and I got the short end of the deal.  I can't go on my parents medical background because I'm adopted but at least my children can get a heads for themselves with me.  Total diagnoses is CAD ( Coronary Artery Disease) , Pericarditis  ( from the failed plumbing fix ) and unstable Angina.  The angina is no fun, not at all.  They can't fix me and can only treat me with medication to slow things down.

My job let me go last September as a matter of fact on my birthday, the 28th lmao.  I'm now struggling with trying to get on disability and have no medical coverage because of denials.  I find it great that I've been working very physical jobs since I was 14 and at 47 I can't get the help I need because I'm too young, so they say.  I'm going to close this by posting a picture of myself so you can see that I'm not in bad shape at all.  They actually told me that what probably saved me was the fact that my heart is so strong, it's just the plumbing is kind of farked.  Another thing, GO TO THE DOCTOR IF YOU THINK YOU MAY HAVE HAD A HEART ATTACK.  Most of the shit I see people regurgitate in this thread just pissed me the fuck off.  If you never had one don't assume you know what the hell it feels like or that you should be fucking dead.  Ok time for me to relax, stay safe

You can't be serious!?

Ok, first of all, if you think you're heaving a heart attack (and by heart attack, I'm assuming you mean a myocardial infarction), the last thing you should be doing is posting on the LCPDFR forums. You should've hauled your ass to the emergency department yesterday.

Heart attacks are usually pressure on your chest and are described as crushing, twisting, and squeezing. The classic description of an MI is that it feels like there is "an elephant sitting on your chest." Did you have any other symptoms such as radiating pain towards your arm, neck, jaws, and lower back? Any shortness of breath? Did you feel faint, where you diaphoretic (sweating a lot)?

Please note: I'm not a doctor, I'm a nursing student. I'm not here to diagnose you or anything. Asking for medical advice on a forum for a video game modification is not a good idea.

none really just maybe alittle out of breath from shoveling i did take a few breaks when i did notice pain in my left chest area, but i seem to be some what ok now. i think what happened was the racing heart thing becsue of the strenous exercise but mostly the burning werid pain was the soreness of the muscle that spread to the whole area on my peck giving off the feeling of heart issues. im alright now though and i took a few asprin but im mostly just sore if i poke that area. so i think its safe to say as stated above me i would be dead. and also my other side in that area is faintingly feeling the same but not as much. i prob just thought oh heart attack and got afraid becasue of the heart raciang and the weird pain. nothing down the middle though i tihnk if it was down the middle i would have to worry.

As stated above else where in this thread please keep in mind if you honestly feel you're having a Heart Issue or another Medical Emergency contact the proper form of Medical Help. From what I can see none of us here are actual Medical Doctors and as such none of us can officially diagnose you and we'd all feel awful if something were to happen to you because of our advise. So please take everything you read here with a grain of salt.

Guppy19 I just wanted to give you an idea of how fit I was.  Like I said I worked for a Water Department and it was almost exactly 1 mile from where I live.  I worked second shift by myself and the rest of the crew worked days.  Since we're a small town I also ran the Waste Water Department and that too is almost exactly a mile from my house.  At night after I got off work I was also on call for the rest of the night to answer alarms and whatnot.  Being in my 40's I could run that mile in 10-12 minutes if an alarm was going off and provided a train wasn't crossing my path, I know because I timed myself.  I could actually get to the water plant faster than any of the other guys and all they had to do was get dressed and in their vehicles.  Now I struggle to walk 3 blocks and have to stop and rest.  This has been a huge life change for me and I will admit greatly depressing at times.  On a really bad day I can get a block and a half but on a good day I may be able to hit 5 blocks before I have to stop for a bit.  It's not something to second guess or even put off for later.  If you have even a slight doubt in your mind see a doctor.  If he suspects it may have been a heart attack they will give you a stress test.  For me the stress test didn't cause any discomfort, no chest pains and only heavy breathing like I just ran to the plant.  With that test they can tell if you may have had one.  If they then suspect you did the next step is a heart catheterization.  I felt absolutely nothing having that done but other people that I have talked to said it hurt them.  I went in expecting it to hurt but again I had no discomfort or pain at all.

I have been awake for all procedures including the failed angioplasty with no discomfort or pain.  The only things that hurt beyond belief was the heart attack and the draining of the blood from around my heart.  Even when they were stabbing me in the chest ( 19 times to be exact ) I didn't feel a thing, I heard it, felt the pressure of it but it didn't hurt but that may have been because I was in that relaxed, peaceful state from the dropping blood pressure lol.  If you have any doubts get checked out, the worst they can tell you then is you're all good.

I've got a friend that has a picture of me in the hospital with the chest tube.  It's not pretty and I look like a dead man but if I can get that from them I'll show ya'. Oh and I'm 6ft 240lbs and sprinter not a runner.
