Impersonating a police officer is not wearing a police hat or badge, but rather enforcing law without proper certification. that's like you having the right to concealed carry or open carry a pistol in a holster and then charge you impersonating a cop for having a glaco police holster.  You can't unless you carried it to the point acting like one. A badge is what makes a police officer a police officer, not the gun, not the handcuffs, not the uniform, the badge. You could wear a police uniform around NYC, but if you don't have the badge, you most likely won't get stopped. The reason that they don't want you wearing a badge is because people could believe that you are a police officer and you could take advantage of that. (I'm not saying you would, just an example) Refer to the movie "Let's be Cops".

Dude just stop while you are ahead. While it was not your intentional to portray or impersonate your self as a police officer you should have had the common sense to know that wearing the badge or any badge for that manner in public was a bad idea. If you are really that desperate to be in Law Enforcement why don't you apply to be a corrections officer i hear they will hire anyone these days.

FFS, you have just made a  A$$ out of yourself first off.

A person is guilty of criminal impersonation in the first degree when he: 1. Pretends to be a police officer or a federal law enforcement officer as enumerated in section 2.15 of the criminal procedure law, or wears or displays without authority, any uniform, badge or other insignia or facsimile thereof, by which such police officer or federal law enforcement officer is lawfully distinguished or expresses by his or her words or actions that he or she is acting with the approval or authority of any police department or acting as a federal law enforcement officer with the approval of any agency that employs federal law enforcement officers as enumerated in section 2.15 of the criminal procedure law; and 2. So acts with intent to induce another to submit to such pretended official authority or otherwise to act in reliance upon said pretense and in the course of such pretense commits or attempts to commit a felony; or 3. Pretending to be a duly licensed physician or other person authorized to issue a prescription for any drug or any instrument or device used in the taking or administering of drugs for which a prescription is required by law, communicates to a pharmacist an oral prescription which is required to be reduced to writing pursuant to section thirty-three hundred thirty-two of the public health law. Criminal impersonation in the first degree is a class E felony.

It doesnt matter if you have no gun, Baton, Tazer, Uniform, its the badge, the bagde is what makes a police officer, the badge is the officers gold, its like their newborn baby, thats why it was taken, so untill you can learn, lets talk later...

Let me just add this I'm an NYPD candidate if I made it into the academy and then out at the time you did this and I saw it I woulda run a background check then locked your ass up be lucky that  detective let you go

Some people on this site really need to look up what respect is, the immaturity of some people on this site is unbelievable. Its like some people can't have a simple discussion without going all mad and insulting people.

🕵️‍♂️ Always watching, always waiting.

Impersonating a police officer is wearing a police hat or badge, but rather enforcing law without proper certification.

You just answered your own question.  :whistling:

where in the law books does it say simply wearing a badge counts as impersonation?

Secondly, an officer does not simply know what you have done before he stopped you or what you will do after he stops you. They don't have a camera implemented into everyones eyes to see what they are doing. The officer who stopped you had every right to take the badge. Stuff like that is for collective purposes. and here is where it says that:

:) You know what I hope you're not a cop with that attitude or else people really need to watch out for you. very hostile its not nice to name call and it also incites other problems but hey I guess you know that already huh? seeing that I'm an idiot and not you right? :)

Yes I understand but he had no right to take it from me and not give it back. Like paid my money for it.

Maybe he should of given you a warning and gave it back, I don't see why he needed to confiscate it, especially if you weren't doing anything wrong.

He was still breaking the law, and he's a felon so that might be why

My apologies I did not realize that he was a felon.

Just saw your post, my bad.

Wow....People like you...He BROKE the law, he is a felon, he is CONVICTED, it is ILLEGAL to do that, he should have been arrested, he should be hopeful that he wasn't arrested.
