Crash after a few seconsd

Featured Replies

So ever since I installed the 1.0d update, I get random crashes usually in under a minute. I'm pretty sure it's the 1.0d update, since 1.0c worked flawlessly for me before and I haven't installed any new mods since then.

Funny thing is, everything still works properly when I enter MP (although I haven't really tried to actually play lcpdfr there).

Game even crashes when I put "abortscripts" into the console, and weird thing is when my gta crashes, lcpdfr still tries to restart my game, but I disabled the save feature.

Any idea what could be the problem?

Try changing your LCPDFR ini file, where it asks what vehicles you want to transport suspects, remove the FBI car and see if that works. This is a longshot by the way but its the only thing I can think of XD

Didn't work. I don't ask for anything when the game crashes. It just randomly crashes.

EDIT: I've tried reinstalling the 1.0c update back, and I also tried removing lcpdfr's dll, however my game still crashes randomly. When I have lcpdfr installed I crash in 45 seconds, when I don't, I crash in like 2 minutes. Not a single clue what it could be, since I haven't installed any new mods or anything.

As you figured for yourself, it's not LCPDFR related, the load it causes probably just worsens the crashing. Luckily I could shed some light on your issue though:

It is definitely model/texture related. R*'s code divides by zero which your CPU refuses to do (error 0x94) here:

.text:008BFEB4 218                 idiv    dword ptr [edi+9Ch]

EDI holds a model info, though I'm not sure whether it's a ped or vehicle or something entirely different. However your best bet is to restore files.

Alright thanks a lot. I did spawn all of my vehicles (and I haven't even modded them for a long time) and none of them crashed. Didn't install new ped mods, however I did install a new gun, but that seems to work. I'll try to get rid of that, we'll see what happens.

EDIT: Well it wasn't the guns, and I haven't changed anything else since then, so I'm quite clueless now.

Yeah, so am I. It happens in a subcall of one of the main vehicle spawning loops, which creates random boats, police units when player is wanted etc. so I guess it's either a ped model or a vehicle model. But I have no idea why they divide by zero and what they are doing at that point, sorry.

It could be worth trying a clean install of the game just in case some file is corrupted or maybe something is missing? Either way I hope you get it fixed soon.

When you said something about main vehicle spawning loops, which creates random boats, does this mean the problem is probably with one of the boats? Also I don't really know where you saw those error lines in my .log files, but I've noticed that they are kind of changing. Would it help if I pasted a few more of my error logs here?

@Morpheus

I don't wish to reinstall the game, since it was working perfectly before. Random crashes don't just show up. Thankfully I do have a few backups, so I'll try those first.

Also @will I think it was my fault, not rockstar's, since I probably added a mod or something, that has a missing component, and I assume, rockstar's code trys to use the missing code, which leads to division by zero. At least that's my idea. They could have added a check for division with zero, although that might have made GTA IV's whopping 16 Gb size even bigger.

I think what I'm gonna do next is use the backup of my vehicles.img and then componentpeds.img etc. and see if it works. Thanks for all the help.

Could be boats, but I'm not sure. Yes, more logs might help clearing it up.

Wait, a common error with the code is that it tries to divide by 0? Did the Rockstar developers not pass math class?

Sorry, I just find that hilarious.

Problem here is, they use a value which is parsed from the model itself and without further checking divide by it. If a model is bad, this can result in a division by zero, though they probably didn't expect anyone to mess with those values.

These two were at very similar conditions. I went to broker's Meadow's Park, spawned a police car, and started lcpdfr. After I put in forceduty I always crashed within 40 seconds, somehow the game lived longer if I didn't use lcpdfr. Also I wasn't doing anything, I just left my character on idle in the car.

I'll try to install the new hotfix for lcpdfr, see if that works, if not, I'll really start using my backups of img files.

Ah I see. Well the problem could be with one of my police cars, because I've been playing on a map mod for at least 15 mins with just normal car mods, and there were no crashes. However I spawned one of the TBOGT police cars and shortly after (like 10 seconds), the game crashed. Interestingly, using tbogt police cars crashes the game more often. Pretty sure it's not my model though, since I tried to replace my tbogt vehicles.img with an older version (unfortunately I doN't have the vanilla no more), anyway it still crashed. But they never crash on spawn, and it's not like I'm doing anything with them. I either drive them or stand in 1 position, doing nothing. Never had or seen anything like this before. I'll try to get rid of ELS, maybe it's acting up.

EDIT:

Not sure if this helps, but I figured out it's definitely just the TBOGT police cars that crash my game, and they only do in certain areas. Sometimes if you are within an area and you spawn the car, it'll only crash after a few seconds. What I did was leave the safe house in TBOGT and I always took the same route, and I realised the game crashes at exactly the same spot. So I tried this with a few tbogt cars, and it seems police3, policew and police4 crashes my game, while every other car works perfectly. These are definitely not model related crashes though, since I had all 3 of those models before, and they didn't cause any issues. One of them, isn't even a police car, so it doesn't even use ELS. Tried removing every single script of mine, but these crashes still occur.

My first idea was that it could be crashing near police stations or near ELS spawned cars, but after I saw that it happened to the policew car as well, which doesn't have an ELS vehicle on it, I was sure that wasn't it.

Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.

EDIT2:

So I've just tried this same thing in multiplayer and guess what, it works. There's nothing wrong with the game in MP, only in SP. WTF to that...

Good to hear you narrowed it down! About MP working, my best bet would be, the vehicle spawn function is SP-only and MP handles spawning differently, hence the function never gets called. I'm just guessing here though.
