ELS-Enabled Police Boats - Possibilities

Featured Replies

This thread is meant to get the community's intellects discussing the topic of ELS-enabled police boats after the announcement of boat pursuits in LCPDFR 1.0d.

After I read about the new boat pursuits in the new version of LCPDFR, the first thing I went to look for were ELS-enabled police boats. One exists, and so it's possible. But we need more.

This mod (>here) is essentially the Predator with a light bar from a police car slapped onto it. If any of you reading this know about police motorcycles, you may also know about how they work. It's just a bike model in one of the police slots with an edited line in vehicles.ide that makes it act like a motorcycle:

noose, noose, bike, BOBBER, BOBBER, VEH@BIKE_FREEWAY, NULL, 30,	999, 0.2303,	0.2303, 0,	4,	1.0	,0,	noboot

In the same way, one could make a police boat model, install it in a police slot (preferably a slot that doesn't naturally spawn while running LCPDFR so you don't have boats driving around on land) and do the same thing:

noose, noose, boat, PREDATOR,	PREDTOR,	veh@boat_standing, NULL,	100,	999, 0.50,	0.50, 0,	5,	1.5	,0,	noboot

It's just a theory, but it would probably work. I'm eager to see if it's possible.

more than likely it wont because like the bike when you place the vehicle type to boat it wont work like the bike traffic doesnt respone to

If you're saying that traffic won't move out of the way (which is true for bikes).. There isn't really that much traffic in the water.

The issue with the boat you linked to, was that the lights were not emissive. They were physical meshes, but lacked the emissiveness of normal ELS. For some  reason, it is hard-coded into GTA that materials are not allowed to become emissive when over a large body of declared water. Even sometimes driving through tunnels that go over water, the ELS loses its emissiveness. While the ambient and environmental lighting work for the els, because that is dictated by the .ini, that game will not allow for emissive lights over water.

I see what you mean. When I travel through the game's equivalent to the Holland/Lincoln Tunnel with ELS enabled, my lights don't flash on the walls, and seem a lot dimmer. I don't remember if they reflect on your car at all, because that would be enough for the boats to appear as though their lights do flash.
