LCPDFR Career Mod?

Featured Replies

I've been thinking of ways LCPDFR could become more diverse in gameplay, and I came up with an idea. I'm not sure if anyone else has already proposed this suggestion, but I was thinking of something along the lines of an LCPDFR Officer Career Modification.

What this modification would do is allow you to create an officer at any Police station as you usually would, select a partner if wanted, and select the standard Vapid Cruiser (Police 1 slot). I will go over some of the implements in depth below.

  • Character creation screen will only appear once, you will be locked to that character for added realism. (With the option to reset)
  • As you make arrests, give citations, and assist the people of Liberty City, you gain experience and cash.
  • As you gain experience, you unlock vehicles, weapons, armor, and even the ability to be assigned your own partner.
  • As you gain cash, you can use this cash to purchase weapons, purchase a new uniform, purchase armor, upgrade Police cruisers, etc.
  • Starting the mod, you will begin as a standard uniformed officer. No partner, a nightstick and glock, and the standard Vapid Cruiser. As you gain experience and cash you will be able to purchase a new vehicle, purchase weapons, purchase visible armor, and request partner assistance.
  • Beginning officers will only be able to take certain call-outs. As you rank up, your uniform will begin to have visible ranks on it.
  • Beginning officers can only call in regular backup. As you rank up, you can begin to call in paramedics, fire department, a chopper, and even a noose team.
  • Beginning officers can only take certain call-outs. As you rank up, you can take more dangerous and deadly call-outs.
  • Hurting other officers, breaking basic laws, and traffic violations will decrease your experience level.

Has anyone thought of creating a mod like this? Would it be challenging to create this?

This idea is awesome.

However, not everyone will like this, so there should be an option in the LCPDFR settings to enable/disable it.

I however think that rookies should also be able to call in the paramedics and the fire department, since it's more realistic. If a rookie in real life spots a fire or a citizen in need of medical assistance, he immideatly requests medical assistance/fire assistance.

I don't think that it'd be too hard to make, but some effort would be needed to be put in.

I agree, of course someone with actual modding knowledge can go more in-depth on how everything would work. I was just laying out the basics of how the mod should work, but I agree.

Edit: If I knew how to code I'd create a mod like this immediately, but I don't have a clue about modding GTA lol.

I hope they do, it was awesome ;)

I like this idea but wouldn't coding this take a lot of time?

And to the fact that it would increase the risk of crashing more because (obviously) we all know gta iv is a bad port :/

But I do very much like this idea :D

I don't think that it'd take too much time to be honest.

They'd have to put a lot of effort into it, so it might take some time but I don't think that it would be too long.

I don't think that it would crash too much either, because this would work just like any other script modification, just that this would use the saving feature aswell.

True we just need a good coder.

I think something to this extent should be a standalone game, should be an option to either be a Police Officer, Fire Fighter, Paramedic or tow truck driver, all of which are involved at least 50% of each others job.

Yes, because most of the points I've made in the OP are already in the game somehow.

Locked character customization, shouldn't be that hard I don't think.

Locked vehicles, the selection would work just like it does now, except that some of the vehicles would be locked and not select-able.

The experience and ranking system may be the difficult part, not sure how that would work.

The cash shouldn't be too hard, just create a script to give the player money as a daily "paycheck".

Weapon purchasing could work just like the gun shop. Maybe a Police gun shop in the station.

Obiviously

And I think that there are more than enough good coders here.

Hopefully someone that has time should code this :D

True, but some people do have a lot of mods installed into their gta folder like me. I have quite a lot of mods and crashes after 30 minutes but I am okay with it.

With all these scripts into one shouldn't be hard.

Do you remember that if you had good enough friendship with some of the characters in the main story, you could call them and ask them to bring their gun van?

Well, there could perhaps be a police gun van attended by a police officer where you could buy weapons from.

And as you said, the leveling system would be the hard part, I don't even know how that is possible to create tbh xD

But, people do wonders, so I'm sure that they can make it if they want to.

Tbh, I think this 'career' style of play would be more suited to a successor mod in GTA V (lspdfr) because of practical reasons:

  • By default, there are rank patches and vehicle modifications already implemented, so rank-based play would be possible.
  • A much more diverse selection of agencies to play as -sheriffs, FIB etc. with their specific callouts for that career.
  • Actual interiors for stations, FIB building etc. where your character can buy upgrades/vehicles.
  • Specific callouts for armed response ranks would be possible, as armor clothing is in there by default.

I don't think he can really, considering he is only a Community Moderator, not a member of the Development Team.

Well, just because he is a Moderator, does not mean he does not have coding skills.

I can say that this does not fit the purpose of LCPDFR as Sam has expressed it. I think it used to be described as "simulating a regular patrolman," but more recently he's described it as a base-level modification; the idea is that it gives you the tools to play as a police officer in whatever way you see fit. The callout API builds on that. The idea, as far as I know, is not and has never been an arcade-style thing like career mode would be; that was PPM's thing, but LCPDFR is more about giving you the tools to act as a cop, and also tries to be more realistic than any fun rank system would be.

That said, if someone wanted to do something like this and needed API features, they could post in the LCPDFR Development section with what API features they needed, and the devs could see about adding them. This would be great for an API mod.
