Yeah my dad is retired from the Air Force and he tried to convince me to join the Air Force as well but I went into the Army instead. All through AIT (and sometimes even now) I am like "how stupid am I for not listening to my dad" lol. I can't complain too much, I got to come in as an E-3 (not sure the Air Force would have offered me that), got the MOS I wanted, got Airborne School in my contract, got assigned to a badass unit in a badass duty station. Being paid to live in Germany, jump out of planes every once and awhile, free housing, and did I mention Germany? Not a bad outcome, even my dad is a little jealous.

  • You should totally join the Air Force.......Just sayin' bro.      I gotta try................   Congrats though, man. But a word of warning, unless you actually have that in writing or it's gon

  • Good luck in the Army :)   I'm planning on the US Marines as soon as I graduate from high school

  • Congrats! Good luck!

This reminds me of my Duty in the Bundeswehr there was a US Base next to our base.....

They always wanted to switch the Rifles with us.

Hell is the M4 a shitty gun...

I'm actually quite fond of the M4. I'd trust my life in battle with it. Never had a jam or misfire with it, and can put a solid grouping together at 250 meters. Although I prefer the H&K 417.

Sounds like you made out pretty well. It's funny because I sometimes wish I went in the army for a little more action. That's why I "voluntold" for a deployment. Lol. And assuming you got E3 because of college credits, you would have gotten the same thing in the AF. I came out E4 Becssue of college credits and Warhawk standards in BMT.

Note to the OP, learn at least NCO ranks for the other branches. I ALWAYS end up fucking up the other services ranks since the AF is ass backwards with theirs. Lol

Yep, I had college credits from my time at my university and from my police academy so came out to about 49 credit hours (47 is the minimum for E-3). Not sure what the requirement is for the AF but I know the Marines only let you come in as an E-2 at most.

M4 isn't too bad, has its issues but it is a pretty good rifle. I haven't shot the G36 that the Germans use but we have a couple in our armory. I have read excellent things about the HK416 and would really like to shoot one because I really like HK weapons (they are really reliable). Going to try and earn my German jump wings and German marksmanship badges while I am here in Germany.

Like L3ubba said, take what the recruiter says with a grain of salt. If you are good to go, then welcome to the brotherhood! I myself did 7 1/2 years as a Combat Engineer. Had a lot of fun. Don't try to be a Billy Badass, and listen to what your NCOs tell you. Do yourself a favor and take any school the Army throws at you! You never know when it will come in handy!

@L3ubba, I am down in Hohenfels and Graf area. Was originally stationed in Bamberg and got out 8 years ago...decided to stay here! LOL!
