Kill it! Kill it with fire!   Seriously though, I saw the concept design for the new Charger a few months ago and my opinion of it hasn't changed. They need to remove the Dart influence and let the

To me it just doesn't retain the original classic charger look I loved so much, the dodge charger was my favorite car, but this...if they plan on making all future models like this...then they will be losing a possible customer. It just doesn't retain the fierce aggressiveness it's predecessors retained with those new headlights, and the back looks much more similar to the dart's, it is true what they say, this thing just looks like a big dart, and that saddens me greatly. I sure hope they change its design back to its more classy looking forms one day, or else, I think dodge will lose a lot of potential customers and current customers. It saddens me truly to say that Dodge has officially turned the Charger into the Dart 2.0. This is a dark day in vehicle brand history...I don't like it. RIP classic charger, you will NOT be forgotten by those who truly cared!

Wait a minute. You are complaining that it doesn't retain the classic charger look? The charger hasn't looked like the classic charger for the past 2 generations, lol.

It's pathetic. As others said before me, it looks like an overweight Dodge Dart with a Charger nose. I'm glad to see they have a 370BHP V8 ready to go, but with all that power it should be able to accelerate from 0-60 in less than 5 seconds. The article says "less than 6" which usually means 5.9 seconds, AKA 6 seconds. That's no faster than the Crown Victoria, and it's actually a second slower than the Ford Taurus SHO Interceptor that's been out for a few years now. The debut Corvette Z06 had 380HP, so a 6 second 0-60 time is inexcusable on a stripped out car that's more than 10 years newer and meant for high speed chases. Moreover, police agencies often have to go the cheap route when buying their cars, so most will likely wind up with the V6 engine with BHP equal to the Crown Victoria, and even slower acceleration time. The only thing Dodge did correctly this time was giving it All Wheel Drive, but knowing Dodge, it's probably going to be another "active" system like Ford has, meaning it doesn't work at all times, only when sliding is detected which does you no good when you're an inch from slamming into a civilians car or a concrete barricade on a highway at high speeds.

Why would all wheel drive help you stop faster?  The purpose of all wheel drive is not to help you stop quicker. I drive an all wheel drive car and I don't stop any quicker than a 2 wheel drive car. Also, police cars are not stripped down, they are actually quite heavy and usually heavier than the standard production car. They have to be loaded with all the vehicle equipment and police gear. It isn't like they stripped out the car radio and AC, it still has all the standard charger features.

Where in that paragraph that I wrote did I say that all wheel drive makes you stop faster? Right, nowhere. It gives you better grip and handling which is something you need since handling a car at high speeds can be twitchy, to put it lightly. All wheel drive could be the difference between sideswiping a barricade or skidding into a snow bank or missing it completely. Grip and control is the purpose of all wheel drive. And yes, police cars are stripped out compared to the civilian model. Have you ever been in an American one? Germany uses heavy Mercedes and BMW from what I've seen, so perhaps the cruisers where you live are heavy, but I live in America. And I've been in both a Ford CVPI and a Taurus Interceptor. The entire back seating area is nothing but plastic and Plexiglas on top of the metal floor. There are no interior door handles or window controls for the back section. The body is lightened, and the interior in front is bone stock with no additional comforts you might get from paying higher than the base retail price of a normal Ford Taurus. The Charger therefore should be no different. I can't envision the police riding around in a noise proof cabin on heated leather seats on full with an XM Satellite Radio blasting, whether it's a Dodge or not. Police cars have the bare minimum. A/C is necessary so people don't die of heat stroke, otherwise I'm sure that would be tossed away as well. The only thing that would make them heavier is the equipment you mentioned, which has no bearing as to whether the police car in question is good or not. All of the junk like spike trips, computers, overhead lights, assault rifles, medical bags and kevlar vests are going to be added to the car or truck regardless of what make and model it is.

Sorry, I misinterpreted what you said about hitting cars at high speed, I took that as something that had to do with braking which is why I was confused about your statement. You were instead referring to weaving through traffic and stuff like that instead.

By the way, I lived in the U.S. for the past 22 years, it is where I'm from. The reason I live in Germany now is because I'm in the Army and I am stationed here, so I know exactly what goes into U.S. police cars. As a matter of fact before I came into the Army I had graduated the police academy and before that I was a sheriff's explorer with my local agency where I accumulated over 2700 hours of ride along time, so trust me I know exactly what the inside of CVPIs, Chargers, and Impalas look like, I have spent lots of time in them. The only thing that is different (interior wise) between stock cars and the police models is the rear seats and floor boards. Everything else is standard car. The Impalas and CVPIs we have a my sheriff's office are no different than the Impala you can buy from your local Chevy dealership other than the police equipment obviously. The only thing I can think that has been stripped from the cars is the center console and the gear shift is moved up behind the steering wheel.

Other than the center console area and the fancy leather seats this is exactly what the inside of our Impalas look like.

That's as gutted as it can get without removing things like the A/C. There are no luxuries to be had. No leather, no massage or heated seats, no advanced computer controls, everything is cloth & hollow plastic. Door and window controls are changed out as mentioned before. The only way to make them lighter would be to go Lamborghini style and compromise safety features and cut corners. Thinner glass for the windows, carbon fiber and aluminum body parts and panels, plastic engine cover. Not the best direction to go unless you live in the world of Need For Speed Rivals. :)

Exactly, so a "gutted" police car isn't really saving any weight or adding performance to the car. The only reason they take that stuff out is so you can put more stuff in. I would be curious to put on of our patrol cars on a scale and see how much they weigh with all that extra gear and equipment.

Have you ever lifted a passenger seat out of a car? Stripping the back area out a car saves a ton of weight by itself along with skipping out on other luxuries. What is put back into the car is going to depend on the particular unit. The fact is without all of that crap stripped out, the performance would be worse. The new Tauruses are too small to fit a lot of things in the trunk now, including spike strips in some cases. My local department plans on switching to SUVs for all future car purchases.

It looks much better with a push bar. At first, I didn't know why everyone hated it so much...but after looking at some pictures without the pushbar, something is just off about the front; it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the car. I think the headlights are more to blame more than anything.

I would argue that the performance you would get from taking out two or three things from the car is negligible especially when you consider how much stuff they put back into the car. I have removed back seats from a couple of civilian cars and yes, they aren't light but they don't weigh a ton either.

That is just stupid. You know what I meant. Obviously I did not mean the classic actual original Dodge Charger Models, I mean those two generations where it retained a nice style, the 2006's to 2014 models, though the back lights changed in style over the years and the model slightly in the front grille and what not, it still retained the classic charger look (classic as in 2006's) that made it look fierce and a police car that if came behind you you would not want to try and escape from. The newest charger just looks like the evolved dart, as others have mentioned. It's new backlight is similar to the dart's almost exactly and the car's shape as well, none of the rough edges that made it look fierce, despite what reasons they were changed for, it now resembles a dart's more than anything else, hence why people hate it as now it looks more like a Dart than a Charger, a Dart 2.0. It doesn't look like it has its own identity anymore, looks like it was just based on the dart completely, if not for the new headlights I think most people would think it was just a big dart unfortunately. It doesn't retain the classic dodge charger looks that many liked as you can see clearly via the poll results and the comments mentioning how people hate its new design and think it looks like a new bigger dart. (Classic btw again meaning 2006 to 2014 editions).

Sorry man, I thought you meant the original Chargers, never heard anyone refer to the 2006 Charger as "the classic Charger". Personally I thought the 2011-2014 Chargers looked the meanest. Each time the Charger has come out (including the 2006 model) I have hated the way they looked but eventually after seeing them enough they kinda grew on me. Only thing that sucks is Dodge has had really bad reliability problems with the Charger (at least the 2006-2010 models), haven't heard anything on the seventh generation models (2011-present).

Well not really classic, but I used the term "classic" in this post because it suited, because I know others were obviously referencing the 2006 generation and up as classic, if compared to the ACTUAL original Chargers, what we had since 2006 and up was a monstrosity. Yeah I did personally like the 2011 to 2014 editions the best, originally I did not like the back lights so much, but it eventually grew on me as well. And that is true, all generations will have their own issues, I mean look at how many issues what, new Chevy cars is it, are having? Been being recalled non-stop. I just feel though that unfortunately this new style wont be able to grow on me, I really loved the previous two generations of chargers, and it saddens me that they may never be remade that way again. The new ones really do just look like big dodge darts. I hope they eventually one day return to the previous style, but if not at least make the newest style look a LITTLE bit different, give it some of its rough features back, make it look a bit mean again at least at bare minimum. Now if I saw one of those things pull up behind me it doesn't give you the same fear factor as the old chargers did. I hope my police department does not purchase them, they ONLY purchase Dodge Chargers that are marked, since the 2006 generation to 2014 generations, both slicktop and not. I hope I dont see the 2015 one driving around, or i'll be saddened, they should keep it how it is currently, a fleet of dodge charger cars, from 2006 to 2014 editions, that is some badass stuff right there. Hope that never changes, and like I said, I simply hope that one day they change the 2015's style again to look a little bit more rough around the edges ya know give it a tiny bit of a fierce boost. Give it its own identity back, instead of keeping it looking so much like a giant Dodge Dart. And btw it is okay man, guess I should of specified earlier more what I meant by "classic", it is all good man.
