Online will still be available, it's only the marketplace that is shutting down. Online multiplayer for GFWL games are virtually unaffected.

Source? The marketplace shut down almost a year ago. That's not what's supposed to shut down on July 1.

Also, interestingly enough, apparently Microsoft has made literally no official statements related to any shutdown - last year, they briefly said that GFWL would be shut down in an update to Age of Empires Online around a year ago. They then removed that line, and have not responded to any questions about it since then with anything except vague "we believe in PC gaming; there may be transitions in the future, but we remain committed to first-party services and games for the PC platform" statements. This doesn't mean they *aren't* shutting it down (I imagine that if they weren't, they'd say they weren't without being vague), but given that there is literally no official word whatsoever on any sort of GFWL shutdown, there's no real basis to say "well, this will still work" or "well, this won't".

LCPDFR will only shut down when the developers/admin of this website no longer care. I hope that never happens, and should it happen they have a succession plan in place should that be the case.

So are they saying they will now offer first party hosting? Because GFWL is very much third party, with it being hosted by Gamespy.

The Gamespy shutdown already happened. That has nothing to do with GfWL, which is a Microsoft product, hosted by Microsoft. GTA IV happens to use both, but they are completely separate services, by two different companies, and have nothing to do with each other. Microsoft has said literally nothing official whatsoever about GfWL. Nothing.

Yep, never going to happen. Not anytime soon, at least. But I do believe when GTA V comes out for PC, LCPD:FR won't be so popular since most likely people will begin to develop something similar in GTA V.

of course it is gonna shut down one day. anything that has a beginning has an end.

Microsoft confirms that GFWL will continue.
