2 Alaska State Trooper's  Killed  in line of duty

All that is known right now / quote from the source   this was released only 30 min ago

Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with the Alaska State Police and the families of two Alaska State Troopers who were killed Thursday while conducting an investigation in the Interior Alaska village of Tanana. No other details are available at this time. We will post the LIFE Tributes (with full details of incident) late Friday afternoon. Troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters identified the victims as Sgt. Patrick "Scott" Johnson and Trooper Gabriel "Gabe" Rich, both of the troopers rural unit operating out of Fairbanks. Please keep our two True Blue Heroes and their families, both of blood and of blue in your thoughts and prayers. ~Nessie on behalf of all of us at True Blue Warrior's"

These two mark yet another loss to the AST, counting them it will be their fourth loss within a year. Sad, very sad.

Rest in peace. Do you remember documentary series about Alaska State Police?

This year is not good for them, unfortunately.

Some time ago I thought that Alaska is one of the most safety states, but it seemed is not.

Alaska is really huge state ( Alaska is  5 times bigger than my country and my country is one of the biggest in Europe ... ) and the number of 650 troopers doesn't sound good, especially as more and more people decides to live there, including the suspect part of them too.

I found another article about that accident : http://bigstory.ap.org/article/official-2-alaska-state-troopers-killed-tanana

"DPS - Alaska State Troopers - Sergeant Patrick "Scott" Johnson and Trooper Gabriel "Gabe" Rich - End Of Watch: 05-01-14: Sgt. Scott Johnson, 45, and Trooper Gabe Rich, 26, were shot and killed while conducting an investigation in the Interior Alaska village of Tanana. They entered the battle together and they gave their lives together ... for the People. (details below). Born with a soul that has courage to wear the badge, Sgt. Johnson had been Saving, Serving, and Protecting the People for 24 years. Born in Fairbanks, Alaska, Brother Scott began his calling in 1990 when sworn with the North Slope Borough Police Department. He remained there for three years before switching over to the State Troopers. Sgt. Johnson did it all too. He worked, studied, and trained hard to become a Patrol Trooper, Patrol Shift Supervisor, a Field Training Officer, a K-9 Handler, instructor and K-9 Unit Supervisor, and a supervisor of the Fairbanks Area wide Narcotics Team. Eventually, Brother Scott was promoted to Sergeant for the Fairbanks Rural Service Unit.

Born with a soul that has courage to wear the badge, Trooper Gabe Rich had been Saving, Serving and Protecting the People for 7 years. Brother Gabe lived most his life in Fairbanks and began his calling when sworn with the North Pole Police Department where he served with Honor and Integrity for four years. Then in In 2011 he made the switch over to the Troopers, where he spent the majority of his 3 ½ years as a Patrol Trooper in Fairbanks, then moved to the same Rural Unit, and on the same day, as Sgt. Johnson.

Both True Blues were well-liked and the villagers of Tanana truly welcomed their presence. The Village of Tanana has a total population of about 238. The remote village, located 130 miles west of Fairbanks, has limited access, relying mainly on aircraft to get there. The People knew if there was a problem that it may take a couple of hours to reach them, but both Troopers made the extra effort to arrive as quick as they could and after handling their business, Brothers Scott and Gabe hung around to make sure everyone was okay and had the things they needed before they headed out.

Sgt. Johnson and Trooper Rich also appeared on the National Geographic "Alaska State Troopers" which is a show very similar to "C.O.P.S.", where a camera crew rides along and films all the great work these amazing Troopers do.

(this is all just preliminary as the investigation is ongoing. We will update as permitted) On Thursday 01 May, Tanana Village Public Safety Officer Mark Haglin (who is an unarmed Officer), put in a call for assistance by the State Troopers. The night prior, a 58 year old villager got into a heated dispute with another resident who then felt threatened and contacted Officer Haglin. brother Mark did a prelim investigation Thursday and took this incident serious enough to call for assistance. Sgt. Johnson and Trooper Rich arrived by plane around 1430hours. They went to the suspect's home, had words, and then entered the home. There appears to have been a struggle and the 19 year old son of the suspect shot and killed the Troopers. The shooter was stopped and detained by Ofc. Haglin.

Sadly, this proved to be our Brothers' final battle ... Sergeant Patrick "Scott" Johnson and Trooper Gabriel "Gabe" Rich were fatally wounded and died on scene.

Immediately following the killings, an older man (the original suspect) fled from the home with a rifle. SWAT and reinforcements were called in. Once they arrived, negotiators attempted to get the man to come out from the home he was barricaded at 1930hours. The Troopers learned the man was a member of the Athabascan Nation who had distrust of the government and outsiders. Even knowing their Brothers were lying dead a short distance away, holding in all personal emotions to stay focused on the task at hand, these incredible Warriors stuck it out for hours. Their patience paid off and at 225hours, the man emerged from the home and surrendered. He is the father of the killer. A robot was sent into the home to check for others and make sure it was save to enter so the Troopers could clear the scene. This night was an amazing show of professionalism and inner strength for all those on scene and we want to send out a special prayer for them. Remarkable work everyone.

Scott leaves behind his beloved bride, three teenage daughters, his parents, and siblings. Gabe leaves behind his two sons, fiancé, and parents. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Johnson and Rich families, the Men and Women of the Alaska State Troopers, and to all whom have had the pleasure and the privilege of knowing and working along side these two True Blue Heroes. Our thoughts and prayers extend to the villagers of Tanana as they have lost their two most depended on Heroes ... and friends.

Our Brothers, as you now patrol the streets of Heaven may you continue your vigilant watch over us all as we carry on in the battles to come ... In Our Brothers' Honor. We thank you for your service and your sacrifice. We thank you for your lives. Job Well Done Sirs.

Rest In Peace Sergeant Patrick "Scott" Johnson and Trooper Gabriel "Gabe" Rich ... We Have The Watch From Here. SALUTE!
